So, okay, I’ve heard so much about this particular novel, ’50 Shades of Grey’ and apparently it has been a a hit and sold like hotcakes everywhere around the world, including Malaysia, my home country. This novel is an erotica, and so, being an avid reader myself, I thought I’d give this a go too. *roll eyes* (Blame it on peer pressure). I thought perhaps, I’d fall in love with this series just the way other ladies do and go goo goo ga ga on the hero by the end of the story.

But I was wrong. I did not like this book. I did not like the book at all! I find that this book is rather distasteful. I know it’s an erotica and everything is supposed to be centered around sex, sex and more sex, but this book simply doesn’t turn me on. In fact, I find it pretty much repulsive and rather distasteful. And the plot is plain…well, rather unstructured to me, and I couldn’t wait to just put it away.

The only saving grace of this book is probably the psychological issues that has been brought up by the author and the playful banter between the hero and the heroine, which I found, pretty much repetitive after awhile.

I have no idea why so many ladies loves this book. Perhaps the idea of a man dominating them in between the sheets and whatnot turns them on? I really have no idea. I’ve read plenty of erotica and literotica before, and I admit that most of them not only turned me on, but made me wish that I could perform the acts inside the scenes myself and gets me all hot and bothered… trust me on that, but this one got to be one of those that turns me off indefinitely. It’s just not my cuppa tea and definitely puts me off from reading erotica for awhile. πŸ™

I think, S&M and bondage is just not my thing, and I’m more into fantasy, YA and romance.

I would rate this book 2 out of 5 stars, and I definitely feel that I could get a better and more tasteful read elsewhere. To me, this is not a literotica. his is just porn. However, don’t let my rating stop you from reading this book. As the saying goes, one man’s poison is another man’s meat.

Book description:

When literature student Anastasia Steele is drafted to interview the successful young entrepreneur Christian Grey for her campus magazine, she finds him attractive, enigmatic and intimidating. Convinced their meeting went badly, she tries to put Grey out of her mind – until he happens to turn up at the out-of-town hardware store where she works part-time.

The unworldly, innocent Ana is shocked to realize she wants this man, and when he warns her to keep her distance it only makes her more desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist AnaÒ€ℒs quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her – but on his own terms.

Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success Γ’β‚¬β€œ his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving adoptive family Γ’β‚¬β€œ Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a passionate, physical and daring affair, Ana learns more about her own dark desires, as well as the Christian Grey hidden away from public scrutiny.

Can their relationship transcend physical passion? Will Ana find it in herself to submit to the self-indulgent Master? And if she does, will she still love what she finds?
