A Feast Fit for an Emperor at The Chinese Restaurant, Berjaya Waterfront Johor Bharu

9 course Chinese sit down dinner usually bores me to death, especially if it is at a traditional Chinese wedding reception or some special Chinese celebratory occasion. It consumes way too much time and the sequence of food is always the same and the food is always normal and boring.

I was pretty much beat up and exhausted. I wasn’t very interested in food when we arrived in Berjaya Waterfront Johor Bharu. But the food presented to us managed to catch my interest.

Here’s sharing what we had:

4 Seasons Combinations. The presentation of this dish is pretty much unique, with animal themes and dry ice making it look mysterious upon arrival to the table. Tastewise, the food was quite okay, though I think the rabbit dumplings could taste better with thinner skin. It was too floury to my liking.

Crab Meat with Dry Scallops Fish Maw Soup was thick and rich. There was no undesirable fishy smell that could turn me off and I had two helpings of it.

2 Varieties Chicken. Served in a cute edible basket, this two varieties of chicken is topped with a variety of citrusy fruits and sourish dressings. Quite an addictive dish, I must say.

Steamed Tiger Garoupa Hong Kong Style. The fish was steamed to perfection and was done in the tradituonal soya sauce and ginger combination. The fish was fresh and the meat was not onlh firm but smooth as well with plenty of natural collagen jellies in it. This dish taste and texture wasn’t as complicated as the chicken dish and this dish was gone within minutes.

Baked Prawn Macau Style was fantastic. The fresh prawn were topped with cheese and were baked to perfection. A garden of fresh salad were served on the side to complement the prawn.

Braised Brocolli& Cauliflower with Bai Ling Mushrooms was all right. Nothing to complain and nothing to shout about. There was nothing extraordinary about but those who likes greens would appreciate the crunchy brocolli florets.

Sambal Fried Rice was surprisingly sensational. This may looks like your regular homecooked fried rice but the taste was out of this world. The rice was not only fragrant and aromatic but was bursting with flavours as well.

Homemade Jackfruit Ice Cream andDeep-fried Salted Egg Sesame Balls The jackfruit ice cream was too sweet for me. But that’s just me. I don’t have sweet tooth and I fancy savoury food much more than sweet food, so my husband and son enjoyed this much more than I do but the Deep-fried Salted Egg Sesame Balls was all right. The salted egg filling was custardy and quite comforting on the palate and I enjoyed it very much.

Let me be honest with you. I’m a fussy eater. And I’m not easily impressed with food, but the 9 course meal that I managed to sample during at The Chinese Restaurant, Berjaya Waterfront Johor Bharu during our way back from Tioman to Kuala Lumpur was not too shabby and it was quite an enjoyable experience.

This 9 course meal is said to worth RM1,000 per table but for a better idea on the course meal package that the restaurant is offering, please refer to the information below for further enquiries:
