So-So Little Pantry

Last Sunday, my family went to celebrate father’s day with my father in law in a place called Little Pantry in iOi Mall, Puchong. Initially, I suggested us to dine in Yin Her Restaurant, Sungai Buloh cuz I thought it will be much more relaxing over there with the lake, the huge space and whatnot, but my sister in law insisted to go to this place instead. She said the place is nice and girlish and everyone would like the place and so we went there instead, considering that she mentioned that the restaurant owner is her client and she can get some sort of special discount for us.

Indeed, the place is girlish and have nice decorations in it. But unfortunately, I did not like it. Not my type of restaurant to dine in with children and whatnot. It is too stuffy and to me, it’s only suitable for girlish kinda girls and prim and proper kinda ladies to have your hi-tea over there.

But then again, I doubt that I’ll go there for hi-tea either. The place was as noisy as Monday school assemblies where the principal failed to stop the students from chatting loudly with their friends. I wonder if it’s the same on weekdays, though?

The waitresses also scares me with their pink Lolita outfits. I felt as if I’ve walked into some sort ofร‚ย  Alice in Wonderland nightmare where people play dress up and whatnot… (TSK TSK TSK!). The waitress who serves us is especially scary. I mean… did she really need to wear that sort of contact lenses that makes the pupil looks so damn big like some sort of ghost? OMG, I tell you, I could have sworn that I saw that sort of things in horror movies! ๐Ÿ™ If she’s trying to be cute like manga characters… well, sorry, it did not work. ๐Ÿ™ It’s not even cute!

The place was not children friendly as there’s not much space for children to move around and perishable decorative items are everywhere. Bad place to go with children and toddlers who are curious and loves to touch things that they saw. Children were not given plastic utensils to use and were given breakable utensils instead and I got fed up asking for plastic plate for my boy to use instead of their delicate ceramics.

Children are expected to entertain themselves while the adult eat with balloons, but then again, my sister in law had to ask for balloons for both my son and my nephew to play with.

We ordered various food to try, and I must say… it’s nothing to shout about and I’ve had better food elsewhere. The price was not friendly on the pocket either.

Take a look at what we ordered:

Salmon salad with fried egg on it. It was so-so. Nothing to shout about. They were not exactly generous on the dressing. Could have taste better and I’ve had better salad elsewhere… like in Marche with Smallkucing and family during teacher’s day. The salmon was a little bit soft and not bouncy. Not fresh? Not sure. I just had a tiny bit of it, so I can’t say much. But I like the lettuce though. It was fresh.

Fried koay teow. I did not touch this. It’s lethal to me cuz it’s infested with bean sprouts, which I’m allergic to. My sister in law said the taste is so-so, there’s no fragrant wok smell and was no as nice as those you get from hawker stall. The only plus point is it’s generous with bouncy, fresh prawns.

Stuffed chicken breasts. Very small portion. The chicken was stuffed with sautรƒยฉed white mushroom and was served with a side of mashed potatoes and generous amount of black pepper. My comment on this? Well, I can roast and grill better chicken though my presentation might not be as nice. The chicken was kinda hard to chew and was rather dry. Quite a disappointment cuz I was expecting it to be juicy and moist instead of dry. ๐Ÿ™ The mashed potatoes are not up to my standard too. I mean… I did not know that mashed potatoes are supposed to taste sourish? I thought they’re supposed to taste creamy and buttery instead of sourish.ร‚ย  Anyway… the sauce was a saving grace. The black pepper sauce was fine and very addictive though the chicken and the mashed potatoes still needs to be improvised.

Creamy fettuccine carbonara. Again, nothing to shout about, and I would prefer it if they add a little bit more salt into this dish. It was rather bland. But then again, still an okay dish to eat.

This is supposed to be their authentic tomyam noodle dish, but I’ve had better tomyams in seasonal Thai Fairs. This dish is very spicy, an okay dish to order if you fancy spicy food. I wish they put a little bit of lime leaves inside of it, though. It would have made this dish much more desirable and they ought to go easy on the condensed milk a lil bit. The milk was overwhelming.

Soft shell crabs fried in tempura batter and served with a side of salad, alfalfa sprouts and dip. I nearly fainted when I dig into this. They did not bother to remove the carapace! Good grief! This is definitely not something I’d order again, period! Even cheap Chinese restaurants would make an effort to remove the crab’s carapace before cooking or serving them!

Their Hawaiian Pizza is generous with the toppings, but if you really want an authentic, thin crust pizza, I’ll suggest you call up Domino Pizza or Pizza Hut’s delivery. This one reached our table cold and the pizza was rather soggy due to too much sauce on it.. ๐Ÿ™ I bet this one would taste really nice if it’s piping hot. You might want to give it a try.

I ordered my favourite dish, fried calamari rings. Very small portion, and I wish they bothered to put salt in the batter! What’s with this restaurant! Are they out of salt or something? Their food are rather bland!:( But then again, this is not a seafood restaurant. So I guess I can’t complain much when they failed to live up to my expectation where seafoods are concerned. ๐Ÿ™

The only thing I enjoyed eating that day was their black pepper steak. The beef was tender and perfectly done. Too bad their mashed potatoes tasted sourish instead of buttery and creamy. Really, I wonder if it’s really supposed to taste that way or the potatoes were not fresh? Can somebody tell me if it’s supposed to taste that way?

Total damage for 8 adults and 2 children: Rm280 before ‘special discount’ which they have forgotten to give and my sister in law had to ask for it again after clearing the bill.

Overall, not a very good dining experience. The place was noisy, stuffy, not children friendly, and worst of all, the place that we sat was rather hot as well.ร‚ย  The air- conditioner seems to fail that day too and I feel as if I was suffocating over there and we practically had to shout to each other just to talk too.

Will I go back there? Sure… just for photography purposes, that is. The place got good lighting. Very flattering if you’re to snap some pictures over here.

Wanna try this place out? Well here’s the address. Hope you have better experience than I had. It must have been my bad day since most reviews about them are good. Comments on the food above are only my personal views. I’m not a food expert so it may not represent the real truth.

Oh, the way u comment and the look of the dishes.. they really didnt taste good, did they.. but i can compliment on the design.. it does look very girlish.. something special..

    • Cleffairy says:

Nope… most of the food tasted rather bland and they did not take out the carapace before they fry the crab. ๐Ÿ™ A disappointment. The only thing good about this place is their deco… but frankly speaking, not a place for toddlers and little children. Can easily break those stuff. Their lighting is good too, so I guess, I will go there, but not for food, but to snap pictures.

=.= I dun mean to give them bad review, but this is what I thought about the food… really so-so wan ma…even I can cook better than that, especially their tomyam and chicken….pls la tell me… if theer’s such a thing as sourish mashed potatoes? AS i know it is supposed to taste buttery or creamy or cheesy. ๐Ÿ™

And the service is not that good either. Not children friendly. Asked for plastic plate so many times tarak kasi oso. Buat bodoh aje. I malas complain cuz go wif in laws. Mau cepat cepat makan den cabut ma.

The only thing that’s good over there is lighting. Tsk… a disappointment to me. ๐Ÿ™ If wan go there for main main and camwhore ok la… their deco and lighting nice. But not for food or bring my kid go there. So many breakable things around!

The food looks nice to me – a bit pricey of course…but I guess prices like these goes hand in hand with such kind of places. But the decor – just one look and I pening kepala already. If I want to put up with such clutter, I would just…stay at home! Muahahahaha!!!!

    • Cleffairy says:

Presentation is nice. I’ll gladly give an A+ for that. But taste wise? It is disappointing and not up to my standard. Chicken was dry and hard, mashed potatoes were sourish (I really wonder why), fettuccine rather bland, crab’s carapace was not removed… T_ T and the sotong batter had no salt and the pizza soggy! *FAINT* Thank God the beef steak was okay, though. A saving grace. Wouldn’t mind paying that price for good food, but this was not the case.

I pening with the deco… lol… not my thing… I like spacious places and no clutter… feel claustrophobic in there and couldn’t wait to eat and leave.

Ish, Cikgu, why u so jahat? Take advantage perli missus pulak. Tsk… kesian her!

The food looks great! It doesn’t sound like you liked it too much, though. ๐Ÿ™

I think it looks nicely presented, but I might have felt a bit claustrophobic as well.

    Your comments made me smile.

Yes, I didn’t enjoy the food… quite a disappointment, but then again, it’s up to individual taste. What’s not nice for me, may be all right for others. ๐Ÿ˜€

    Reminds me of Full House.

Pricey food, much commercialized food taste haha! Never order their local delights in this kind of places imo. If I want local delights, I will go to the kopitiam by the road side :D.

Maybe I will try the Little Pantry out when I go back to Malaysia and see how it goes… thought with this post, hmmm… save my wallet?

    • Cleffairy says:

Go and try it out… perhaps you’d have better luck than me. ๐Ÿ™ I went on weekend, perhaps they were rushing to prepare the food, that is why the taste is just so-so? Well, I dunno… got to go for another round on week days to test their food again.

      • ladyviral says:

that could be the possibility. Usually they do a better job at non rush hour :3. but if that happens, means this place is likely to be good either >.<

        • Cleffairy says:

          >.< ppl told me it was good... so it was quite a disappointment when i found that the food was so-so. I reckon it's weekend and they have to cater to many ppl... I tink must go there on week days to enjoy it. ๐Ÿ™

    • Cleffairy says:

The food presentation is nice… but the taste… just ok onli. ๐Ÿ™ The mashed potatoes really made me wonder… I really wonder if it’s supposed to taste sourish. That’s a first for me.

aiyo so bad ah the food. For RM280 you can eat till lausai in YH la.

Wei it’s Father’s Day ma..maybe your SIL have sense of humour. Go there not to makan one but rather give you FIL a “treat” to see Lolita in short skirts. AHem..hope he didnt pinch their ahem ahem…hehehehe

Eh the 8th photo look very scary la…like ppl’s hand grabbing out from the plate. And the last photo also looks scary …ahem like what can be found in the t……

    • Cleffairy says:

Eh, the steak was really good… the rest, so-so only. Nothing to really shout about. Presentation-wise, they’re nice too.

*faint* Liddat kah? No wonder my SIL choose this place. Aiya… I tot wanted to go a Chinese restaurant to sumbat him eat… mana tau my SIl mau kasi chance FIL cuci mata pulak. ROFLOL!

ROFLOL… I never thought the crab was scary… lol.. now that you mentioned…. it really looks like hands coming out of the plate. *faint* Chamz, nightmare tonite.

I guess this place does not suit me, since I have one nottie boy and I feel claustrophobic in there. Feel too cluttered la the place.

Anyway, you can go try it… mebbe that day was not my day, so I did not have a good dining experience. ๐Ÿ™

I love your funny comments and description on the food and layout…. “scares me with their pink Lolita outfits”…. that’s hilarious! They should be serving only cremes, pies and strudels with that kinda interior.

    • Cleffairy says:

Umm… this place is not for me… too girlish and pink! And the Lolita outfits does not sit very well with me either. Gets my imagination runs on overdrive. But one thing good about this place is their lighting. Very flattering for photography purposes.
