Shadow of The Wind

My husband told me I was hot last night. He said I was practically burning. Initially, I thought he was fishing for something that he wanted again, cuz he was touching me all over til I woke up. I seriously thought it was a compliment. LOL.

It occurred to me after a while that I was really burning up, practically burning up that my husband’s skin felt so cold to me. I was having a rather nasty fever, and yet, I didn’t feel sick despite of my condition. I wonder why. My body was hot all over. It’s not a wonder my husband was fussing and was trying not to cuddle up as usual. I was having quite a high fever last night, and my temperature was rather scorching to his skin.

Having roused by my husband’s concern, I couldn’t go back to sleep again. Try as I might, I ended up tossing and turning in bed, feeling rather uncomfortable. I went to the kitchen to gulp down some water in hope to lower down the heat, but failed. I still feel hot and bothersome, and so, instead of going back to bed, I pick up a book to read instead.

Another intriguing mystery and thriller…hoping that it can ‘chill’ me up abit.

It’s a book called Shadows of The Wind by Carloz Ruiz Zafon. I’ve never read any title from this particular author before, and I discovered that this author is actually a Spaniard, and the book was originally written in Spanish with the title La Sombra del Viento. The book is actually a worldwide bestseller. Translated in 2004 and over a million copies was sold in UK alone.

The book is really impressive and does not disappoint. Very intriguing and mysterious. The book is set in Barcelona, 1945.

A great city lies shrouded in secrets after the war, and a boy called Daniel; mourning the loss of his mother finds solace in his love for an extraordinary book called “The Shadow of the Wind,” by an author named Julian Carax.

The story starts just after the war where Daniel’s father takes him to the secret Cemetery of Forgotten Books, a huge library of old, forgotten titles lovingly preserved by a select few initiates. According to tradition, everyone initiated to this secret place is allowed to take one book from it, and must protect it for life.

Daniel took a book called “The Shadows of The Winds” by Julian Carax and took it home to read that night.

When the boy searches for Carax’s other books, it begins to dawn on him, to his horror, that someone has been systematically destroying every copy of every book the man has ever written.

Soon the boy realizes that “The Shadow of the Wind” is as dangerous to own as it is impossible to forget, for the mystery of its author’s identity holds the key to an epic story of murder, madness, and doomed love that someone will go to any lengths to keep secret.

Is this book a good read? Oh, yes, definitely a good read. It may not bring down my temperature, but it definitely give me a chill. Anyone wants a pdf copy of this book for personal reading pleasure? Email me at [email protected] or leave a comment here and I’ll send it to you.

Cleffairy:

I feel my temperature rising
Help me, I’m flaming
I must be a hundred and nine
Burning, burning, burning
And nothing can cool me
I just might turn into smoke
But I feel fine

Cause your kisses lift me higher
Like a sweet song of a choir
And you light my morning sky
With burning love
