What diamonds are made of

Diamonds are…blood. How could something that looks so pure, so beautiful and so endearing be made of blood, you may ask. Well, it’s a figure of speech. Diamonds are made of blood and suffering. Diamonds may be coveted by many because it symbolizes eternal love and endless devotion, but the fact that diamonds are made of blood remains.

Blood diamonds,  also often called conflict diamonds, are mined in war- torn African countries by rebels to fund their conflict. The rebels abused human rights, often murdering and enslaving the local populations to mine the diamonds. That’s where some diamonds come from.

So that would mean, each time you buy certain diamond ring from your jeweler so that you can say ‘I do’ on your big day, there’s possibility that someone had been tortured of even died because of it.

There’s no actual way to determine whether certain diamond is blood diamond or not if you’re no expert, but did you know that these days, diamonds can be cultured in laboratories, and the quality is just like any normal diamond that came from the diamond mines?

Apart from being conflict free, they’re eco-friendly too. Do you know why? Because diamond mining could actually disrupt the eco-system as mining for diamonds destroys tonnes of volcanic rock, which took thousands of years to be stratified deep under the ground surface.

Now that you know diamonds are made of blood and destruction, which one would you rather let your loved ones have as a symbol of love and devotion? Blood diamonds, or cultured diamonds?

Cleffairy: Sometimes, something so beautiful could have originates from something so ugly and inhumane. Worst still, we’re paying a lot of money for such torture and murder. Let it be known that war is not the only destructive thing we’re funding.

Hi Cleffairy, you’re right there re the blood diamonds.
And today Canada’s diamonds are well sought after, especially our diamonds have colours, and with their clarity, much wanted by people who know.

And all Canadian diamonds from up North have very tiny polar bears or Maple leafs. So when your hubby buys you a Canadian diamond or you buy yourself with the $12,000 present he gave you, and the shop guy says “from Canada”….ask him show you the polar bear or maple leaf….

You have fun,,,,and diamonds not only forever but a woman’s best friend.
Have a happy hari merdeka. Lee.

You mean that is how you determined that the diamonds are from Canada? There’s certain marking on it? Ohh… thank you for letting me know about this. I didn’t know.

CANADA diamonds? Digging a lot of earth in order to receive one small stone is not eco and earth friendly… but Yes – at least not blood diamonds…

Depends which girl you’re talking about. My best friend would be books first, vanity second.

I would certainly prefer cultured diamonds… cheaper… and looks the same like natural diamonds.
