If there is one place that you wouldn’t want to miss dining during Christmas season is Utara Coffee House, Armada Hotel Petaling Jaya. It is one of our family’s favourite. Sufficiently described as a food haven, the restaurant is well known for its delicious and addictive array of local and western cuisine that also includes its daily Gastronomic Buffet featured during breakfast, lunch and dinner. The best part of it all? Not only the food is exquisite but the price tag is competitive as well.
Utara Coffee House is offering a generous buffet spread for Christmas 2015 that will undoubtly spoil you rotten but here’s highlighting the dishes that is worth your calories at the buffet spread.
Salmon Coulibiac. Basically this is Salmon fish pie. Coulibiac is a type of Russian pirog usually filled with salmon or sturgeon, rice or buckwheat, hard‑boiled eggs, mushrooms, onions, and dill. In this case, the filling was salmon fish. Not exactly a fan of fish, but this won my heart that night. Flavourful and light, the dish is still comforting and tummy warming.
Dubarry Soup and Cheese Batonette was thick, rich and most definitely comforting. Any growling tummy would settle almost immediately after consuming a spoonful or two of this.
Baked Capon with Bread Almond Roulade. For those who are mot familar with the term, capons are actually castrated roosters. A fattening diet and early slaughter leaves their flesh succulent and well-suited to make roasts or in this case, roulade. Juicy and bursting with flavours, these roulade are just so irresistible.
Roasted Chicken with Cranberry de Glaze is a wonderful change from the usual tough turkeys.
Roast Duck Ripieni with Calvados. I skipped this one as I prefers chicken over ducks, but my husband and son assure me that this dish is marvellous and knowing them for being harsh critics, I trust their judgments are just.
Swedish Crab Pudding was rich and flavourful. Another one of those comfort food that you would not want to miss in this buffet spread.
Roast Beef Tape made with Champignon was done medium rare, just the way I like it.
Louisiana Pumpkin Rice with Whole Pumpkin Mousseline of Pumpkin, Carrot and Sweet Potatoes was great to be consumed on it’s own, but I’d suggest you to mix and match with some sliced roasts for extra dimension.
Whole Lamb Leg with Garlic Sauce is another thing that is a must try here in Utara Coffee House this festive season. The lamb leg was wonderfully juicy and perfectly flavoured. There is also no unpleasant smell whatsoever that usually comes with lamb or muttons.
And what’s a Christmas buffet without desserts to spoil your palate? Assorted desserts can be found at the buffet spread but here’s recommending Lemon Meringue Pie, Yule Log, Carrot cake with cream cheese, Christmas Pudding, Glass Dessert Tiramisu and assorted Christmas cookies. These are just so divine and those with sweet tooth would most definitely appreciate the treat.
Utara Coffee house can accommodate up to 180 diners at a time and also serves as a venue for private functions, but only with prior booking and arrangements.
