I can be quite fussy when it comes to food. But if there’s one place that always tops my ‘favourite place to dine during festive season’, I have to say that Utara Coffee House, Armada Hotel PJ is always on the top of my list. Utara Coffee House Armada PJ has been my favourite restaurant to dine in, especially during festive season for almost 4 years now. My first time dining there was during Ramadan 2013 where I was not only impressed with their hospitality and service, but splendid feast offerings as well.
Soon it will be Ramadan 2017, and I’m pleased to report that nothing changed in Utara Coffee House, Armada PJ, exccept perhaps, the food offerings actually gets better and better than the previous years.
With Executive Chef Chew and Chef Mummy. Two friendly chefs who will be responsible for your gastronomic pleasure this Ramadan 2017. Dining in Utara Coffee House makes me feel like going home because of these two chefs. They are not only very fatherly and motherly in demeanour, but they bring the flavours of homecooking straight to your table as well.
Themed Selera Nostalgia Ramadan for their 2017 Ramadan Buffet, Utara Coffee House at Armada Hotel offers plenty of delectable items on their menu.

Check out the my video interview with Chef Mummy here, featuring the highlights of the buffet. The video is in Bahasa Malaysia.
Anyway, since it is a buffet and I can’t possibly taste everything in one sitting and it’s almost impossible to describe everything that they have at the buffet, I’ll just highlight to you what you shouldn’t miss should you dine over there during iftar this coming Ramadan 2017:
Kerabu Soo Hoon. A must try if you are a kerabu fan.
Kerabu Mangga. Among one of my favourite kerabu in the buffet. Highly appetizing and goes well with a plate of piping hot rice.
Nasi Ulam&Sayur Keladi. Now, I’m allergic to yam. Yams will make my body itchy, but these are irresitible and so I tried a spoonful of it. Definitely worth all the itch that I got the next day. It’s simply delicious.
Bubur Lambuk. Flavourful, creamy and rich, the bubur lambuk will surely sooth and comfort your tummy after a long day fasting.
Sup Tulang Rusuk is another one of those must try dishes in the buffet. Goes well with both plain rice and crusty bread.
Asam Laksa with Condiments. This is one of Chef Mummy’s specialty. It’s really bad, bad for your waistline, that is. Being a Laksa Utara fan, I find this very irresistible. It tastes really like something you will get from Kuala Perlis or Kuala Kedah. Definitely recommended.
Itik Berladok. Savoury and not overly spicy, this duck dish is one of the chef’s signature. I gave this a miss in favour of other dishes, but do give this a try when you dine at Utara Coffee House this coming Ramadan. I’m sure you will not be disappointed.
Ekor Lembu Masak Asam Pedas (Kawah). Is to die for. Pair it with plain white rice, and you will find yourselves having seconds in no time at all.
Ayam Golek is one of the highlights at the buffet.
Kari Kepala Ikan Salmon. Chef’s recommended dish. Not sure how this tasted like as I overlooked this dish during the Ramadan preview, but I’ll be sure to sample some of this on my next visit.
Ketam Masak Nangka Muda dengan Kunyit. If you have to use your hands to eat these, by all means. Don’t be shy and do it. It’ll be worth all your troubles. The Ketam Masak Nangka Muda is to die for.
Stir Fried Eggplants&Four Angle Beans with Belacan Sauce. A simple and homey dish. Those who loves belacan in their food should not miss this.
Rendang Daging . This is sensational, but not to be had on it’s own. Pair this up with some ketupat or lemang that’s hiding somewhere in the buffet instead.
Siput Sedut Masak Lemak Cili Padi. This may look spicy, but don’t worry. It’s not as spicy as it sounds. All you need to do is just suck on these. Sounds wrong? Well, that’s how you do it when it comes to Siput Sedut. You need to suck on the tip of it to enjoy the savoury fleshes. Eating this may be abit messy, but I assure you it’s worth all the mess it will make.
Sayur Lemak Labu. Not something you can usually get in the city. So if you are looking for some kampung flavours, then this is it.
Sambal Udang Petai. One of the culprit that will tempt you to get more helpings of rice in one sitting. Definitely not recommended for those who are on a diet. This will ruin your weight loss program for sure.
Assorted Malay Kuih and pastries is also available at the buffet, so be sure to check it out.
Overall, Utara Coffee House offers excellent Ramadan Feast. I have no complaints whatsoever, except perhaps, it makes me miss my hometown more, as the food tastes pretty much like what I can get back home. If you are looking for homey, kampung dishes that does not disappoint for iftar this Ramadan, Utara Coffee House at Armada Hotel PJ is definitely a good choice.
