Love shopping and retail therapy but not really into bursting your budget? Need to get stuff for your home but household items are usually sold at a very expensive price in the regular malls? Well fret not. There are plenty of places in Klang Valley where you can actually shop without breaking your bank account, but my favourite got to be Jalan Jalan Japan Preloved outlet. As of writing, there are three Jalan Jalan Japan outlets in Malaysia. The first one is in One City Mall while another one is in 1Shamelin Mall and Seremban respectively. And soon, there will be another one opening on 18th May 2018 at M3 Mall Taman Melati, Kuala Lumpur. As suggested by it’s namesake, these outlets are selling pre-loved items from Japan. Since the Jalan Japan outlets are all very huge, shopping can be quite overwhelming to some, and so, I’ll be sharing with all of you here some useful hacks and tips on how to shop at Jalan Jalan Japan and how to stretch your Ringgit while shopping at Jalan Jalan Japan and make the most out of your money.
Now, there are plenty of treasures here in Jalan Jalan Japan. Their most sought after preloved items are usually the preloved clothes.
Clothing are segregrated by gender. Eg: Men and Women as well as Children section. You can find all sorts of clothings over here; casual wear, formal wear and even winter wear with the pricetags of RM10 and above. If you are patient enough to sift through the aisle, you may also occasionally spot clothes that are going dirt cheap at just RM5. The key here is keen eyes and patience.
Most of the clothes are still in good condition, but you need to remember that this is a preloved shop, and therefore they do not allow any exchange after purchase. So, please try them on before deciding to buy any articles of clothing here at Jalan Jalan Japan.
Jalan Jalan Japan offers dirt cheap Yukata and Kimonos. If you are looking for Japanese traditional clothings to wear to Bon Odori festival or something but is on a tight budget, you may want to hunt them down at Jalan Jalan Japan. At just RM20-RM40, you can get a set of Yukata or Kimono. Obi and accessories like slippers and pouches are sold seperately though, so you’ll have to be creative a little bit and mix and match the outfits and the accessories.
Apart from clothings, hats are also spotted at Jalan Jalan Japan. At just about RM10 per piece, you can get really high quality ones. They are perfect for beach or summer vacation.
Ladies, especially the bag addicts will definitely appreciate this place. There are assortments of bags sold here at Jalan Jalan Japan.
My advice to you when walking down the bag aisle is that you walk slowly and inspect the bags closely and see what that might suit you fancy. There are alot of rare treasure here that are sold at very cheap price. This unique Bali style rattan bag for example was sold at just RM10. A real steal, I must say. Should you buy this elsewhere, it can easily cost you RM80 and above for a piece of bag that is even smaller than this one. Assortment of bags eg: handbags, backpacks, slingbags etc are selling for as low as RM10. Some of these bags are branded pre-loved bags that are still in a tip-top condition. Definitely worth your money, I assure you that.

Affordable kitchenwares are sold in abundance here in Jalan Jalan Japan, but do make sure they’re a suitable type and size for your stove before you decided to bring them home. Japanese lacquer plates and bowls as well as bento boxes aplenty. Their price starts from as low as RM3. You might want to take a look at this section if you are looking for some new permanent residence for your kitchen and dining table. A gentle reminder for Muslims and strict Vegetarians, these cookwares and dining utensils might have been used to serve all sort of meats and non-Halal items. If you are a devout believers, do perform ‘samak’ or cleansing ritual prior usage.
Hobby and outdoor section is definitely something you must check out if you’re into sports and outdoor stuffs.
Jalan Jalan Japan offers plenty of sports and fitness items over here. Yoga and fitness mat goes at dirt cheap price over here, and I even spotted a high quality Yoga mat at just RM10, which can easily cost up to RM70 elsewhere.
If you just started your fitness journey and needed some fitness equipments for your workout, this is definitely the place you would want to go.
Jalan Jalan Japan may not be a furniture shop, but they do offers some useful preloved household furnitures. The choice might be limited in comparison to specialty furniture shops, but they do offer some interesting pieces of furniture at ridiculously cheap price. Some coffee table and study table costs less than RM80. Even vanity table with lovely mirror on it costs merely RM70 over here. They are still in very good condition too, mind you. I got my classy looking multi-purpose foldable racks from Jalan Jalan Japan M3 Mall for just RM10. I nearly cry out in happiness when I saw that, I kid you not.
Wide range of babies and children’s toys, gadgets and accessories are available for your pickings. Collectibles from famous anime like Dragonball, One Piece and Gundam are available as well. If you are a collector, be sure to check out the toy section. Some of the toys have choking hazards and whatnot, so please lick up those that’s suitable for your children’s age only.
Soft toys offers plenty of branded preloved items, going at just RM10 and above.
This rare Meowth soft toy from Pokemon anime costs just RM10, among many other of his ‘friends’. This can easily cost you RM100 and above elsewhere. If you are a fan of branded soft toys, please make sure you go for a little dive at the soft toy section. You won’t regret spending time doing some digging over here, I assure you.
Check out my loot at Jalan Jalan Japan M3 Mall. I usually hunt down clothings and bags whenever I go for a shopping spree at Jalan Jalan Japan, but due to my previous retail theraphy, my wardrobe is already overflowing with clothings and accessories and therefore, I decided to buy other stuff instead this time.
My loot consists of Yoga set, Bento boxes, sleeping bags, teapot and a wooden multipurpose rack. My total damage was just RM121.
Jalan Jalan Japan is a real hot spot for bargain hunters, especially on weekends and the queue can be quite long.To make payment, simply line up, be patient and don’t cut queue.
It would be great if you have calculated your spendings beforehand when you were sorting out the items that you wanted and prepare exact change. It’ll help to speed up the payment process and queus will noticebly move along faster if everyone practices it.
Jalan Jalan Japan restocks their items really often, so do check them often too. You’ll discover that there’s always different things sitting on the rack during your visits. No matter what is your budget, I honestly think that Jalan Jalan Japan have something to offer for you. Their pre-loved items came straight from Japan and are second to none.
