Glam it Up From as Low as RM1 with Lazada this 10.10

Dear ladies, do you remember your first ‘beauty moment’? You know, the moment when you first realized the painful reality that beauty does not exactly lies in the eyes of the beholder but it takes quite a lot effort and investments before you can actually look beautiful and presentable? People who knows me and have seen me, be it on social media does not lack compliments for me when it comes to my appearance.

image

They called me beautiful, cute, adorable, lovely, you name it. But the truth is, I was not always an eye candy. I was a very late bloomer.

image

I remember my first beauty moment. Or should I say, my beauty awakening. It was quite a slap on my face as I seriously did not care for my appearance until I was 29 years old. I looked ugly and I grew up being called names. I had low self esteem and of course, when I got married and had a child of my own, I looked like the trash the cat dragged in with baggy clothes that does not really fit me and I wear those ugly glasses that made me look much older than my age.

You see, I was raised in a family that brainwashed me that all the skincare and cosmetics are going to spoil my skin or spoil my hair. I was also told that wearing contact lenses will untimely ruin my eyesight. My husband on the other hand did not really care for how I looked like as long as I cooked and clean and take care of our son.

In all honesty, I did not care if I did not look presentable in public at all, until my lack of grooming slowly destroys my self confidence. People looked down on me and did not take me seriously, simply because I did not ‘stand out in the crowd’. People took credit for my work, simply because I did not look somewhat pretty and it is not believable that someone who looks haggard actually had talents or any brain that functions for that matter. Ugly and talented does not seems to equate well, I suppose.

My husband’s friends on the other hand, does not think I suit him and some even went as far as encouraging him to have affair with some ladies that they know as they think I’m not good enough for him, and he should only use me as a convenience to take care of our son.

I was furious when I learned all these
of course, and I knew I had to make an effort to at least look presentable before things get out of hand, and gradually, I came out from the safety of my cocoon and nobody would ever dare to call me names or even dare to call me ugly.

The process was not easy nor was friendly on my savings, I must say. I did not transformed into the ‘beautiful and confident woman’ I am today overnight. I had to get rid of all my baggy clothes and buy those that fits and accentuate my figure. I had to picked the right contact lenses so that I wouldn’t look like someone’s grandmother with my thick glasses. I had to get my hair styled and I had to invest in makeup and skincare. It was all very expensive and I lost count on how much I spent on all those just so that I can look presentable.

I know some of you ladies are like what I used to be too. Stuck in a situation where you are judged for your appearance. You want to changed; look stylish, look beautiful and enjoy being adored instead of being sneered at, but it is simply not affordable for you to do so.

Travel Solo Made Easy with Agoda

With longer working hours, constant digital contact and increasing obligations, it’s no wonder more people are treating themselves to solo trips to (temporarily) get away from it all. According to a survey by Agoda, one of the world’s fastest-growing online travel agents (OTA), travellers are choosing to go solo to take respite from the stresses of modern living.

image

Agoda’s ‘Solo Travel Trends 2018’ survey, conducted by YouGov, found that relaxation and time to unwind is the number one motivator for solo leisure travel globally (61%), which compares to 48% when traveling with friends. Solo travellers surveyed also ranked getting away from routine (52%) and exploring new cultures (45%) as top motivators.
Age gap between Asian and Western solo travellers

Interestingly, Asian solo travellers are more likely to be younger – Millennials (41%) and Generation Zers (38%) – while in the West, solo travel is more prevalent among Baby Boomers (39%) and Generation Xers (24%).

Western solo travellers are more likely to indulge in solo travel for longer periods, more often taking trips for 4-7 nights (34%). In addition, Western solo travellers are twice as likely to go on trips of 14 nights or more (20% versus 10%). The Millennial and Generation Z Asian solo traveller tend to take shorter 1-3 night solo trips (46%).

Trend towards more screen time
Unsurprisingly, solo leisure travellers spend more time in front of their laptops and phones than any other traveller type –  two hours a day (119 minutes), which compares to 15% more time than when travellers are with friends (100 minutes) and 26% more time than if they are with family (86 minutes).

Asian solo travellers are the most digitally connected and are more than two times as likely to spend four or more hours a day in front of their screens than their Western peers (31% versus 12%).

Cosmopolitan destinations dominate the charts. Whether for business, leisure or ‘bleisure’ (a combination of business and leisure travel), independent solo travellers are all heading to cosmopolitan cities around the world. According to Agoda’s booking data, Bangkok (Thailand) is the top destination for Asian solo travellers this year, while London (United Kingdom) is number one for Western solo travellers. Both cities have a lot of attractions to keep any solo traveller busy, from shopping and nightlife to culture and dining.

Tokyo (Japan) is a popular choice for both Asian and Western travellers, hitting the top three for both groups. With various food, culture and accommodation options, from capsule hotels to homes and luxury 5-star retreats, the city has a lot on offer for every kind of solo traveller.

2018 top solo travel destinations Rank:

1. Bangkok, Thailand
2. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Cruise with Luxury with Rascal Voyage

The team behind the region’s most talked about luxury Phinisi yacht, Rascal, is expanding with five new boats set to create a fleet of ‘Rascal Voyages’. Continuing to push boundaries with five-star expeditions across some of the world’s most undiscovered waters, Rascal Voyages will serve the rising demand for experiential and adventurous luxury travel.

image

The first Rascal Phinisi yacht carved a niche in the luxury hospitality industry by allowing guests to tailor-make their own land and sea itineraries for an exclusive private charter experience. The five new yachts will provide the same unique flexibility and increase in size to offer an additional sixth cabin, with each yacht offering Rascal’s signature entirely above water accommodation experience. Like the inaugural Rascal, which has been providing discerning travelers explorations across Komodo and Raja Ampat for the past year, the new yachts will offer luxurious cruises to magnificent, off-grid locations. With two already under construction and scheduled for completion in 2020; one will serve the Indonesian waters alongside Rascal, whilst the other will voyage two routes – from Thailand to Myanmar, with its staggering fauna and flora marine diversity, and Singapore to Malaysia, plying the Eastern seaboard of the Malaysian coast with destinations such as Pulau Rawa, Tioman, Redang and Perhentian. The further three yachts will complete by 2021, accessing the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Thailand with unique itineraries around The Maldives and Cambodia. With the additional yachts, guests will have the opportunity to create multi-location itineraries, boarding different yachts in different countries, adding further possibilities for luxury exploration across some of the planet’s most sought-after seas.
image

The additional above-water cabin has been conceptualised for the new yachts to house floating experts in residence. Following the success of Rascal’s partnership with CI, which saw the discovery of two new species during a survey expedition of Raja Ampat, the larger boats will enable guests to select from a team of diving professionals, conservationists and wellness enthusiasts to join them on board, adding a new dimension to the private charter experience – whether it’s a fitness programme, a diving course, a world-class surfing adventure or a detox.

image

Remaining at the cutting-edge of luxury hospitality, each yacht will be built to order, meticulously handcrafted and elegantly designed, taking inspiration from their respective surroundings. Adapting a spacious superstructure to allow for the six double en-suite guest cabins and a range of indoor and outdoor spaces for guests to relax in, the boats will be combined with the comforts of a contemporary yacht – engines, navigation systems and AV solutions of the highest standard, and the region’s most experienced professional crews and F&B teams for unforgettable on board experiences.

image

Every Rascal Voyage will bring a wealth of activities include trekking through undiscovered lands, a variety of watersports and diving. Yoga lessons, spa treatments and photography courses can also be arranged.

image

An onboard chef prepares a daily menu, combining international and Asian cooking techniques with fresh, local produce to create sumptuous dining experiences– from pop-up island feasts to sunset beach BBQs. Equally as impressive is the exclusive cocktail menu and bespoke Rascal Rum, which was expertly crafted by international bar superstars, Proof & Company, especially for Rascal Voyages.

Available only for private charter, every Rascal Voyage dares to defeat the last!

Celebrated Spanish Artist Eduardo Arranz-Bravo Commissioned to Design the Hull of the Final Breakaway-Plus Class Ship by Norweigian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise Line recently revealed that Eduardo Arranz-Bravo, the award-winning Spanish artist, created the hull artwork for the fourth and final ship of its Breakaway-Plus class, Norwegian Encore, debuting in Miami in November 2019.

image

A representation of his modern and abstract style, the ship’s hull will feature a labyrinth of color inspired by Arranz-Bravo’s life by the sea in Barcelona and paying tribute to the vibrant guest experience for which the Norwegian brand is recognized.

“Norwegian Cruise Line is a dynamic, pioneering company known for its innovative experiences and breathtaking collection of beautifully designed ships,” said Arranz-Bravo. “I am honored to not only bring that vibrancy to life even more on Norwegian Encore but also showcase my love for the ocean and my hometown of Barcelona.”

Frank Del Rio, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, played a key role in the selection of Arranz-Bravo as the hull artist for Norwegian Encore, having been inspired by his work for many years. Del Rio’s passion for the arts has helped elevate Norwegian’s on-board experience, most recently with the multi-million-dollar-art collection curated for Norwegian Bliss.

“We are well-known for our iconic hull designs and know that Arranz-Bravo’s lively design will complement the colorful destinations in the Caribbean that Norwegian Encore will visit when she debuts next year,” said Del Rio.

image

Recognized for his inventive and humanistic approach to abstract art, Arranz-Bravo’s work is showcased throughout the world and portrays a constant evolution that some refer to as futuristic.  He is highly regarded, having been the recipient of countless awards and accolades, and was one of three artists chosen to represent the 1992 Olympic games in Barcelona.

“Eduardo’s design will be a perfect complement to the collection of hull artwork within our fleet and is a testament to the dynamic experience our guests will have on board,” said Andy Stuart, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line.  “We are proud to welcome him to our Norwegian Cruise Line family.”

At approximately 167,800 gross tons and accommodating up to 4,000 guests, Norwegian Encore will complete the Breakaway-Plus class, the most successful class in the company’s history. She is currently being built at Meyer Werft, in Papenburg, Germany and will feature many innovative dining, entertainment and recreational activities that guests have come to expect from the industry-leading brand.

Following her unveiling, she will cruise out of Miami every Sunday and sail seven-day voyages to the Eastern Caribbean, beginning with her first journey on November 17, 2019 through April 12, 2020.

More details on the ship’s design, accommodations, dining and onboard offerings will be shared in the coming months.

Sanctuary Inspired by The Legendary Silk Road: Capella Sanya, Singapore

image

A new chapter in the fabled history of China’s ancient Maritime Silk Road is written with the imminent opening on Capella Sanya.

The private sanctuary promises to “set a new benchmark for China’s luxury beach resorts” – inspired by the legendary voyages of seafarers trading between China, Southeast Asia, India, the Arabian Peninsula, Somalia and all the way to Egypt and finally Europe between the 2nd-century BCE and 15th century.

Capella Sanya – a collaboration between one of the world’s pre-eminent luxury brands Capella Hotel Group and Chinese developer China Gezhouba Group Real Estate – pays homage to a Silk Road legend surrounding its location in secluded TuFu Bay on the southern coast of tropical Hainan Island.

China’s southern island of Hainan was a major transit point for the trade in merchandise from silk, porcelain and lacquerware to spices, rosewood and Lingnan-style bronzeware.

And it was here, in the 14th century that Persian traders reputedly sheltered from a devastating typhoon before earning a fortune from their precious cargo and naming the haven “Blessed Bay”, translating to TuFu Bay in Chinese, in gratitude of their lucky escape from calamity.

With 190 exquisitely-designed rooms and villas amid lush gardens, overlooking the South China Sea, Capella Sanya is now uniquely inviting guests to embrace this legend in Maritime Silk Road history.

Themed and designed as a “collaborative art piece” by two of the world’s most celebrated, visionary ‘starchitects’, Jean-Michel Gathy and Bill Bensley, it is one of the hospitality industry’s most-anticipated openings in 2018. In styling Capella Sanya, the two world-renowned designers drew inspiration from a Chinese trader’s adventures along the historic trade route, encapsulating the rich culture and heritage of ethnic communities along the way Capella Sanya is not only a beach resort, but also a private sanctuary with intimate spaces and extraordinary places. Combined with contemporary design method and Chinese architectural essence, eastern complex and elegance flow from every detail. Natural elements such as water, wood and rocks can be seen everywhere, which reflect nature itself, stem from nature and meanwhile completely into nature which reviles the most expressive way of oriental spirit.

“With the combined creative genius of Jean-Michel Gathy and Bill Bensley, Capella Sanya guests will enjoy a variety of meticulously crafted experiences on a themed journey across the New Silk Road,” said general manager Yngvar Stray. Details will not be unveiled until the opening, scheduled towards the end of this year.

But along with Capella’s renowned for spectacular, luxurious hospitality, landscape design and recreational facilities, the legendary trade route is referenced from grand design to each section of the extraordinary journey.  A traditional Chinese tea house symbolises the start of the Silk Road, and a destination spa at the other, with a Moroccan hammam, snow cabin and treatments inspired by Eastern traditions, and the complex tastes of culture along the maritime Silk Road offered by six distinctive restaurants, where the calm azure sea meets the golden sand. Unwind and find peace private sanctuary, or wander the endless space offered by this idyllic resort.

Just 45-minutes from Sanya International Airport, Capella Sanya offers 190 exquisitely-designed rooms and villas amid lush gardens, overlooking the South China Sea. Inspired by the beautiful elements of nature and the area’s famous and often mysterious Maritime Silk Road trade history, the accommodation blends contemporary comforts with multiple opportunities to enjoy the peace and seclusion of the resort as a whole. Private pools, terrace dining, dedicated Capella service and modern international dining set the scene for a retreat on the beach. Capella Sanya is open for reservations from November 15, 2018.

To book your stay, please visit https://www.capellasanya.com, or contact our reservation team at [email protected].
