7 Recommended Muslim Friendly Restaurant For Chinese New Year

So, MCO2.0 is here to stay and Malaysians are back to having to endure their movements being restricted and confined to their homes most of the time. Although the initial movement restriction to curb the Covid19 was announced to be effective for just two weeks, I have no doubt that it will go on and on for months, seeing how ‘effective’ it is in handling the infection spike. Noting the daily news report, I don’t think the daily Covid19 infections will be going down anytime soon. The numbers keep raising and we’re definitely not flattening the curve at all.

Musings on the current Covid19 situation in Malaysia aside, I can speak with conviction that all the nearest upcoming festivals celebrations, especially the Chinese New Year is effectively ruined. At least for me it is already ruined, considering interstate-travel and gatherings is banned throughout the MCO2.0 period.

It is indeed a very sad situation. I already knew that the Chinese New Year’s celebration this year will not be the same due to my father-in-law’s recent passing. It simply will not be the same anymore without him around during reunion gatherings.

What I didn’t really expect was that I wouldn’t be able to spend the festive season with my mother-in-law as well, considering that she lives in another state and interstate travel is still banned. It’s very depressing indeed. First year of Chinese New Year without father-in-law by the act of God. And first time spending the holidays without mother-in-law too.I don’t mean to sound so negative but Chinese New Year is all about gatherings and togetherness. This year will simply won’t be the same.

But I guess life goes on and despite the fact that government can restrict the way we spend our holidays they definitely can’t restrict what you decide to eat. Being a rebellious one, I’m definitely going all out this coming Chinese New Year. I’m not much of a cook, so cooking for Chinese New Year is out of the question. I plan to order some chinese food via Foodpanda delivery and here’s recommending some restaurants in Klang Valley that’s available in Foodpanda should you decide to do the same:

1. Restaurant Yunnan

Restaurant Yunnan is a Chinese restaurant offering Halal Chinese Muslim food from Yunnan. They’re specialized in Mee Xian and Spicy Mala Claypot Noodles. Other must try items on their menu is their chicken and beef dumplings.

2. Mr Dumpling

As the name suggest, this restaurant offers a variety of dumplings on their menu. Among the highly recommended ones is their Beef and Cabbage Dumplings and Chicken Mushroom Dumplings. Also a must try is their Spicy Chicken Rice and their ‘make your own’ hotpot bowl.

3. Sunny Garden

Sunny Garden is a Chinese Muslim Restaurant that offers a wide variety of Chinese cuisine and snacks. Among the must try item on their menu is their Beef Noodles and Mee Tarik. Their fried chicken dumplings and Eggs Fried Rice is also among customer’s favourite.

4. Master Cook Muslim Chinese Cuisine Restaurant

Master Cook Muslim Chinese Cuisine Restaurant offers a variety of home cook rice dishes. If you’re looking a taste of home, then this restaurant is a safe bet.

5. Dolly Dimsum

Want to have some Halal version of Dimsum? Then Dolly Dimsum is a good choice. They are offering an extensive Dimsum menu. Apart from Dimsum, they are also offering cooling desserts for you to wash down your Dimsum with.

6. Walid’s Kitchen

Walid’s Kitchen specialty is their Wantan noodles. If you fancy some Halal version of Wantan noodles, then grab some from Walid’s Kitchen. They are also offering a decent amount of Dimsum on their menu.

7. DA GAI JAY Alhambra

DA GAI JAY Alhambra is specialized in Pan Mee and Yee Mee. But if noodles are simply not enough, they are also offering some delicious fried snacks on their menu, so you might want to give yourselves some nice snacking experience. Their fried fishballs and fried dumplings is quite addictive, I assure you.

We may not be able to celebrate Chinese New Year like we did the previous years, but let’s just try to keep the tradition to dine with family members on Chinese New Year’s Eve alive, shall we? Let’s just order some delicious food from Foodpanda and celebrate Chinese New Year at home. Physical gathering may be illegal but we can always host a virtual gathering via Google Meet or Zoom, so let’s do just that for now.

Bring Home The Taste of Thai Street Food with Banngkok Street Food

Barely days into 2021, the Covid19 cases spikes again, causing more than half of the populations in Malaysia to be locked up at home again. Although the government has announced the enforcement of MCO 2.0 for two weeks, I have no doubt that it’ll be blatantly extended again for months, just like last year. Well, although I’d love to complain about it, I do realize that so far Malaysia government’s approach to curb the Covid19 infection is to force everyone to stay home as much as they can and I am powerless to do anything about it no matter how unhappy I am about it.

So, what have I been up to these days now that I have to stay home all the time? I’d love to report that I’ve been extremely productive, but that would be a lie as it’s not quite the case. I’ve been severely unmotivated and all I want to do is just waste the day away by watching dramas through online streaming sites. I’ve also lost interest in food and been losing weight rather visibly. A shame, really, considering how much a glutton I was prior the pandemic crisis.

Steadily losing weight to the point that I can no longer fit snugly into my shirts and jeans kinda scares me and I decided that it’ll do no harm if I start sourcing my meals from restaurants instead of just consuming my own cooking. And so having heard that one of my neighbourhood restaurant is still operating as usual throughout the MCO 2.0 period and is offering delivery and takeouts, I decided to give it a try.

Banngkok Street Food is a homely restaurant located in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur. The restaurant is still operating as usual throughout the MCO 2.0 period. While dining in is still not allowed as per government’s restrictions, customers can still order takeouts or delivery. They have extensive Thai street food menu that could tantalise your taste buds, but here’s sharing with you some that’s worth mentioning:

In the pic from clockwise: Khao Mok Khai- Thai Briyani, Hoy Tod-Oyster Omelet, Kuai Lai Pii- Striploin Boat Noodles, MAMA Thaley -Maggie Tomyum, Sua Rong Hai -Crying Tiger Beef, Special Banana Pancake and Niaw Mamuang -Mango Sticky Rice.

Khao Mok Khai- Thai Briyani (RM16.90). This is the Thai version of the famous Indian’s Briyani rice and it’s served with a generous amount of roasted beef strips. I was a bit skeptical about it at first as the Briyani rice dish that I’m used to is usually served with spicy curries and some vegetables pickles, but my skepticism goes out of the window when I took a bite of it. The rice was really fragrant and flavourful while the roasted beef strips complemented the rice really well without overpowering the flavours of the rice. Highly recommended to rice and beef lovers.

Hoy Tod-Oyster Omelet (RM12.90). The Thais really have a thing for omelet and rice. If you have visited Thailand, you’d find it common for them to serve plain omelet with a plate of piping hot rice just about anywhere on the streets. It’s a really easy to find comfort food in Thailand. And here’s an upgraded version of the common Thai’s humble meal of omelet and white rice, oyster omelet with fragrant white rice. Instead of just plain egg omelet, this one comes with plenty of plump fresh oyster and bits of chilli slices embedded in it. The omelet is tinged with hints of fish sauce and goes really well with the white rice. The dish comes with a small tub of Thai chilli sauce, but great enough to be a standalone. Highly appetising and definitely one of the most satisfying comfort meal that you can ask for at Banngkok Street Food.

Kuai Lai Pii- Striploin Boat Noodles (RM18.90). Love noodles? Then the Kuai Lai Pii is a must try. It comes with a generous serving of a well marinated striploin beef and a side of condiments like beansprouts and blanced kangkung. The soup is really flavourful and comes with slight hints of sourish spiciness. Great for those who wants something to indulge their taste buds with.

MAMA Thaley -Maggie Tomyum (RM22.90). Fancy some seafood Tomyam dish? Then this MAMA Thaley is for you. Banngkok Street Food Restaurant has taken instant noodles to an entirely different level by putting this together. This dish is usually served altogether in a bowl, but since dining in is not allowed, all noodles dishes are served deconstructed like this to avoid sogginess prior to serving. You will need to put everything together on your own in a bowl before enjoying it. The instant noodles comes with generous amount of seafood like a whole squid alongside with juicy prawns and two piece of onsen eggs. The Tomyam soup is abit spicy on it’s own but the noodles comes with a topping of mozerella cheese, so when it’s put together, it balance out the spiciness and the Tomyam soup becomes rich and creamy on the palate.

Sua Rong Hai -Crying Tiger Beef (RM14.90). If you are a fan of roasted beef, do give this a try. They’re to die for. Great on it’s own as an appetizer, but goes well if you’re to pair it with a plate of piping hot rice as well.

Special Banana Pancake (RM9.90). Slathered in chocolate sauce and topped with sweet corns, peanuts and raisins, this Special Banana Pancake is absolutely divine. The pancake is sweet without being cloying. A wonderful dessert treat that makes a great energy booster and an absolute cure for hypoglycemiac as well, I reckon.

Niaw Mamuang -Mango Sticky Rice (RM10.90). This is a traditional Thai dessert that’s made from sticky glutinous rice and served with a side of sweet mangoes and topped with sweet coconut milk sauce. A must try if you fancy traditional Thai desserts. I absolutely recommend this as an aftermeal as it cleanse the palate pretty well.

Overall, the food from Banngkok Street Food is highly appetizing and delectable. They’re definitely worth your calories. Ordering from Banngkok Street Food is easy, so should you want to indulge in some delicious Thai Street food, simply refer to the links below:

Adaptive Scuba Diving Experience with Kids Scuba& Diveheart Malaysia

Raising a child with autism is a walk in the park. A park with dinosaurs and nasty creatures stomping around, that is. All right, I know that’s exaggerating, but putting metaphors aside, raising a child with autism is not easy, especially in Malaysia. Autism awareness is still low in this country and in all honesty, we’re still not ready for neuro-diversity communities in Malaysia .Throughout my son’s growing up period, I’ve been told alot of things, simply because my son is differently-abled. When he was 6 years old, I was told that I should not bring him out from the house and should just put him away in some mental institution because of his inability to socialize and his constant meltdown episodes.

Friends and relatives said a lot of cruel things to me, and naturally I was depressed for awhile and kept my son at home with me and isolated ourselves from the society. Then things got worst for both of us. The more we isolate ourselves from the society, the worst things gets. Meltdown episodes are more often than ever and I was feeling almost suicidal. Then it occured to me that listening to judgemental people is not doing anyone any good, and I must snap out of it. From then onwards, I started doing what I wanted to do with my son. I started to grow some fangs that bites and stopped paying attention to negative opinions. I started to bring him everywhere with me so that he can adapt to his environment and slowly, he started to improve and thrive. I was enlightened by his progress and started to believe that he can go far and achieve alot. All he needs is a fighting chance.

I’m constantly looking for ways to make a lot of things possible for my son, and since I’ve been certified as an Open Water Scuba Diver recently, I thought of introducing him to some underwater world adventure since he is fond of water activities.

Problems? Yes. Most dive centres in Malaysia does not cater to special needs or differently-abled individuals. Most dive centres in Malaysia does not have qualified instructors to teach special need individuals. More often than not, my son will be turned away and I will be told that it’s not possible for him to try scuba diving. Can’t honestly say I blamed them for turning us away. I understand that scuba diving is only a fun and safe sport if you follow rules and is well trained for it. I don’t blame anyone for not wanting to be held accountable should any untoward accidents occured.

Anyway, I was about to give up on the idea of introducing the underwater world to my son until I came across Kids Scuba, a Malaysia based dive centre that’s officially partnered with Diveheart, a non-profit organization that support educational scuba diving programs that are open to any child, adult or veteran who are special needs and differently-abled. Diveheart works with people who have a variety of disabilities, and this includes physical and developmental disabilities. They cater to vision and hearing impairments, traumatic brain injuries, amputations, PTSD and many more. With their tagline “Imagine the Possibilities”, Diveheart seeks to add values to its participants’ lives through scuba diving.

So, I signed up my son for an adaptive Discover Scuba program at Kids Scuba. ‘Adaptive’ as opposed to the regular Open Water courses is a scuba diving program that caters to special needs and differently-abled individuals. And here’s the boy with a Diveheart Malaysia volunteer, Ms. Majidah Hashim. Video briefing was done before any water activities is introduced.

And just like any other Open Water Diver courses, proper introduction to scuba equipments and hand signal briefing is done as well.

From left: Mr. Syed Abd Rahman, the Founder and Director of Kids Scuba and Ms. Majidah Hashim, assisting my son with the scuba gear fitting in the pool prior to the Discover Scuba session.

Done fitting, all is okay and ready to go.

Water confidence session with Mr. Syed Abd Rahman, the instructor in charge of my son’s Discover Scuba session.

More water confidence session.

Upon evaluation by my son’s instructor, Mr. Syed Abd Rahman, or more fondly known as Uncle Syed among the children, the boy needs to wear a full face mask due to his spasm that does not allow him to properly bite into the regulator that helps him to ease his breathing while diving.

Underwater activities with Uncle Syed.

Introduction to Adaptive Scuba Diving is done in a fun and interactive way in a safe environment.

At the end of the session, my husband and I were allowed to join in for a family photo, so here’s us with the kid and Uncle Syed.

Overall it was a wonderful experience for my family. Both the instructor and the Diveheart Malaysia volunteer are very kind, patient and attentive towards my son and I feel like I can trust them with his life.

For those who are with kids and would like to try scuba diving, you may contact them and book a session. I promise you, you’ll have a fantastic and memorable time underwater. The dive centre is not only specialized in training young children and special needs, but caters to people from all walks of life as well, so go ahead. Don’t be shy.

Last but not least, if you are a certified diver and interested to be trained as an Adaptive Dive Buddy or to be a Diveheart volunteer you may contact Kids Scuba PADI 5 Star Dive Center or refer to the contacts and info below:

What Is The Best Website To Compare Car Insurance Quotes?

Auto insurance is more affordable and available than you think if you compare car insurance quotes from different insurers to find the best rates. If you have ever done comparison shopping, you would realize that different auto insurance companies often produce very different quotes for the same person, even if the policies being compared are alike. This makes comparing quotes an integral part of purchasing car insurance. With myriads of auto insurance companies in Malaysia, comparing quotes can be an arduous and tiring task. This is where auto insurance comparison websites come in handy.

Auto insurance comparison websites can be of massive assistance in your hunt for affordable auto insurance. They offer bespoke rates, discounts, and coverage options of different insurance companies all on a single website. This is more like your much-loved hotel comparison website that gives you side-by-side different hotel room options all on a single website page.

How Do Auto Insurance Comparison Websites Work?

Auto insurance comparison websites work by prompting you to enter your requirements into its online quote form, after that producing a range of comparison quotes based on the information you provided. You are then transferred to the insurance company website based on the quotes you choose, thereby reducing the purchasing process. Realistically, the process takes a few minutes, more so, be rest assured that these websites do not sell your info to insurance companies or agencies.

Benefits Of Using Comparison Websites

1. You can save money
Comparing auto insurance quotes from many insurers and being able to sort by price enables you to select the very best option, based on the benchmarks you specified. Comparison sites often include several lesser-known insurance companies. This means you are opened to several deals from a smaller company that may save you a significant amount of money.

2) Convenient And Time-Efficient

With several clicks, you can get hundreds of insurance quotes with little or no effort at all. This permits you to assemble a lot of consolidated information, saving the time of trawling through many individual sites. Comparison websites likewise allow you to create an account and save all your details. This prevents you from repeating them again and again when searching for various policies or needing to switch providers. Time is precious, so saving as much as possible is a big reason to use these sites.

3) Wide Variety And Choice

Auto insurance comparison websites are big organizations, and there is no shortage of ones to browse from. The entirety of these sites requests marginally different data. They don’t all have the same insurers on their books, which means the rundown of quotes given won’t cover the same insurance companies and thus offer different quotes. This implies a few can be utilized alongside one another to find the best arrangements and to validate the correctness of the price quoted.

Final Thoughts

As auto insurance experts, I will recommend you compare car insurance quotes every time you are about to renew your current policy (usually every six months or 12 months). Before you start hunting for a quote, I suggest you review your current policy and check if your needs have changed. When you are done reviewing and settling on your coverage decisions, an auto insurance comparison site can then help you find the best price for your preferred policy.

If I would recommend a site to make your life easier, it will be Fincrew.my. Founded, wholly owned by NickMetrics group, Fincrew is Malaysia leading auto insurance comparison website. They compare car insurance quotes from RHB Insurance, Lonpac Insurance, Zurich Insurance, Syarikat Takaful, Allianz Insurance and AXA Insurance in Malaysia to find you the right coverage at the best price. More so, they make insurance transparent, simpler, and better. This implies they will match you with rates custom fitted to your requirements and driving way of life, continually permitting you to make your final, educated decision with the most critical data that is made accessible to you.
