Delectable Japanese Pastries at Bakery Cafe Hachi, 1 Mont Kiara

For those who followed me on social media, especially Facebook, you’d probably know that I am somewhat a Japanese anime addict. My all time favourites are Dragonball, Sailormoon, Naruto, Gundam SEED, just to name a few. I’m also very much into cooking anime and Mukbang (live social eating program), and I have always been impressed with Japanese method of cooking and delicacies, and so, when I heard about Bakery Cafe Hachi, a well-known Japanese bakery in Malaysia that serves plenty of authentic Japanese pastries, I knew that I had to check it out, going against my diet of non-carbs these days.

image

Here’s yours truly with the chef at Bakery Cafe Hachi in their outlet in 1 Mont Kiara. While most Japanese bakeries in Malaysia used local ingredients,Bakery Cafe Hachi does not spare the materials and used only only the finest ingredients imported flour from Japan to ensure the authenticity of their pastries’ taste and texture.

image

Check it out. Bakery Cafe Hachi offers more than 40 types of Japanese pastries. The best part? They are baked fresh daily and you can practically smell the waffling fragrance of goods being baked at the cafe.

image

My first impression is that since the ingredients came from Japan, the price will probably point to the ceiling. But I was wrong. Despite the quality, the price are pretty much affordable, and rivaled any other bakeries around.

image

Bakery Cafe Hachi offers both sweet and savoury types of pastries

image

Here’s yours truly getting her hands on some of the pastries

image

Here are some of the highlights from their offerings that I think is worth your calories at Bakery Cafe Hachi; clockwise from top: Salty Butter (RM3.20), Hachi Toast Bread (RM7.40), Anpan Koshi (RM3.20), Melon Bun (RM3.40), Yakisoba Bun (RM6.20) and Croquette Sandwich (RM5.90).

image

Anpan Koshi (RM3.20) is a soft, buttery bun filled generously with fine red bean paste. The filling is not cloyingly sweet and just nice to my liking.

image

Melon Bun (RM3.40) is something I usually spot in my favourite anime and to be able to have a bite on em is a real pleasure. The bun is coated with cookie crumbs and is delightfully sweet.

image

Salty Butter (RM3.20) may look simple, but highly satisfying. Made with high grade butter and perfectly flavoured with sea salt, this is highly recommended, especially for those who prefers buns with buttery taste.

image

Yakisoba Bun (RM6.20). Need a quick meal but don’t really have time to really sit and eat but need to kill the hunger pang? Grab the Yakisoba bun. Filled neatly with perectly fried Yakisoba noodles, this ‘noodle meal in a bun’ is not convenient to eat, but delicious as well.

image

Croquette Sandwich (RM5.90). Filled with fat, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside potato croquette, this sandwich is great for those who want a quick comfort meal.

image

Hachi Toast Bread (RM7.40). The Hachi Toast bread is a must try for all bread lovers. The thickly sliced bread loaf is really soft, milky and buttery. Great on it’s own, but I personally would recommend you to simply pair it with fruit preserves and cheese as the Hachi Toast Bread will make give you an entire different experience, trust me.

image

Apart from the regular Japanese pastries, Hachi Bakery Cafe also offers a decent selection of all-day brunch menu.

image

I would recommend their wonderful selection of burgers and sandwiches for those who would like a well-balanced meal. Here’s having their Prawn Salad, Croque Madame, Foccacia Sandwich with Avacado and Salmon and Teriyaki Burger during my most recent visit. The portion is pretty huge and makes quite a decent sharing meal, I must say. They are also offering fruit juices alongside with a selection of hot drinks like coffee and tea.

image

Prawn Salad (Rm16.00). The prawn salad is great for those who wants loads of greens in their meal. Not compromising on protein, the prawn salad is is topped generously with fat and juicy fresh prawns. A good bet if you want something healthy.

image

Croque Madame (Rm13.00). A croque madame (French for “madam crunch”) is a variant of ham sanwich topped with a fried egg. The name is based on the French word, croquer (“to bite, to crunch”) and the word madame (“lady”). This classic ham sandwich from France is drizzled with bechamel sauce and topped with fried eggs and served with a healthy portion of salad on the side. Love this to bits. Deliciously comforting on the palate.

image

Foccacia Sandwich with Avacado and Salmon (RM16.00). For those who are working out or on a diet, you will like this foccacia sandwich with avacado and salmon. The foccacia is filled with thick smoke salmon and avacado, both ingredients that provides good source of protein and healthy fat.

image

Teriyaki Beef Burger (RM16.00) comes with thick beef patty and drizzled generously with sweet Teriyaki sauce. If you love your burgers sweet, then this is a must order, otherwise, just play safe and get their Classic Burger instead.

image

Matcha Latte (Rm12.00) and Cafe Mocha (Rm12.00) makes a great “pick me up drink”, so if you’re feeling lethargic or simply want something to perk up a little, just order these.

image

One for the album. Yours truly with family and friends at Cafe Bakery Hachi. Overall, dining at Cafe Bakery Hachi is really pleasant. Great ambiance, wide selection of pastries and warm meal that is perfect for sharing. And a bonus? The price won’t burn your pockets too. What else can we ask for besides great companionship here? I have nothing more to ask for.

Anyway, Cafe Bakery Hachi will be having their 1 year anniversary party at the 1 Mont Kiara outlet and they are offering 20% off on all items sold+FREE cash vouchers.

Here’s the info on the anniversary party, in case you are interested:

Casio Malaysia Launches G-Shock with New Carbon Core Guard

image

To introduce the latest innovation from Casio’s G-SHOCK line-up, Casio Malaysia will hold a week long exhibition at the Centre Court
(CCGF) Mid Valley Megamall from 8
th April – 14th April 2019 to showcase the Carbon G-SHOCK of 2019 featuring a carbon fiber also known as the “third generation of toughness”.

Carbon fiber is hard, strong, light, strong against thermal change, strong against time and strong against deformation. In essence, carbon fiber merges the lightness of resin with strength surpassing metal to revolutionize shock resistance.

image

To kick-off the exhibition, a grand launch was held on 11th April 2019. Two new carbon series, the GA-2000 and GWR-B1000 Gravitymaster both employing the Carbon Core Guard
structure were introduced at the launch for the first time in Malaysia. To signify the official launch of the event, VIPs were tasked with throwing a G-SHOCK watch towards a bullseye target followed by an explosive and upbeat Japanese drum performance by an entourage of highly energetic drummers.

Mr Tezuka Itsuro, Managing Director of Casio Malaysia said “When the world thought we couldn’t get any tougher, we proved otherwise today with the introduction of the G-SHOCK Carbon Core Guard series, an even more resilient watch to our already formidable G-SHOCK line.”

Taking Casio’s G-SHOCK ultra tough reputation to the next level and sporting a new urban outdoor style with a sleeker look, the analog-digital GA-2000 with Carbon Core Guard structure includes notable features such as a carbon fiber-reinforced case, guardless buttons, front light button, a double case back structure, and multi-color resin bands. Another unique feature of the GA-2000 is that unlike other G-SHOCKs the bands can lay completely flat with the case and are easily removable using a slide lever without special tools. The new shock
resistant structure marks an important advance of G-SHOCK core technology, making this model the new standard bearer of the G-SHOCK lineup.
The lightest Gravitymaster ever, the GWR-B1000 Gravitymaster with a new carbon monocoque case, is incredibly tough but light at the same time. Designed for the severe environments faced by pilots, this new timepiece delivers an even higher level of toughness through the use of the same carbon and titanium materials found on modern aircrafts. The GWR-B1000 Gravitymaster comes with an array of premium features, including 52 layers of carbon sheeting bezel, a carbon fiber insert band, and scratch resistant
sapphire glass which enhances readability. The watch also utilizes tough solar technology, atomic timekeeping, Bluetooth enabled and features full auto double LEDs which
automatically illuminate in dark conditions.

To commemorate Casio’s bold new direction with Carbon Core Guard, the exhibition chronicled the material evolution of Casio’s G-SHOCK from yesteryears to present day and
showcase of the actual Carbon Core Guard materials used in the production of these supremely tough watches. Throughout the week-long exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity and pleasure of brutalizing the Casio G-SHOCK by participating in the Giant
Slingshot – slingshot a ball towards a bullseye target which is a G-SHOCK watch.

All visitors to the exhibition are encouraged to participate to stand a chance to win exciting prizes!

Weekend Staycation at RED by Sirocco, Kuala Lumpur

What’s the worst thing that could happen to a writer? Well, personally speaking, what’s worst that could happen to me as a writer is being hit by the writer’s block and feeling terribly burned out an uninspired. Writer’s block usually hit me when I feel awfully stressed up with my workload. March was one of those crazily hectic month where I feel pretty much dead inside and out and I was in a serious need of de-stress. As much as I want to go for an eco-escapade again to escape reality for a little while and just get lost in the jungle somewhere, I just couldn’t do so. There’s too much work commitments for me, so getting out of Kuala Lumpur is simply out of the question, so instead of my usual camping and hiking trip whenever I feel overwhelmed, I decided to have a relaxing staycation instead at RED by Sirocco.

image

RED by Sirocco is a beautiful hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Easily recognizeable by this beautiful mural. This alone is beautifully inspirational, I must say. This mural was painted by a renowned Malaysian graffiti artist by the name of Kenji Chai and it beautifully graces the entire length of one side of the external hotel building’s wall. It took him 10 hours to paint the mural daily and it was completed it in 21 days. The title of this mural is the ‘Courage to Dream’ but it’s better known around as The Sleeping Dayak Girl. You may look up all about this mural on social media by using the hashtag #sleepingdayakgirl. The Sleeping Dayak girl is currently the tallest mural in Malaysia, endorsed by The Malaysia Book of Records.

image

RED by Sirocco is one of the latest four-star boutique hotels to open in town and it is conveniently located along Jalan Kamunting in the Chow Kit area of Kuala Lumpur. It can easily be reachable via Dang Wangi LRT and Bukit Nanas Monorail. Located just beside the well known banana leaf restaurant; BaRnana Leaf and spa; The RUB Bar, this hotel seems small from the outside. But once you step in, the hotel tells an entirely different story from the inside. The interior of the hotel screams nothing but classy and chic with a hint of minimalism. As per it’s namesake, everything is decorated in red theme.

image

RED by Sirocco’s lobby is chic and welcoming. The staff here are also very warm and helpful.

image

The lobby is decorated in an artistically contemporary manner. Artworks can be spotted hanging around on the wall at the lobby and waiting area. If you are a fan of all things artsy, you’ll like the deco cuz you’ll feel as if you’ve ventured into an art gallery’s exhibition hall.

image

Business centre at the lobby offers complimentary usage of the desktops.

image

Here’s my room. It’s an Executive room that comes with beautiful view overlooking KL Tower at the balcony. Another note worthy thing about the rooms in RED by Sirocco is that they are not only equipped with air conditioner but comes with a ceiling fan as well. That’s really environmental friendly and praise-worthy in my opinion.

image

Comfy King sized bed is definitely a cure for insomnia.

image

My room came with complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi and a huge 49” LCD TV.

image

Bathroom was really spacious. I guess it’s designed for couples.

image

Shower booth comes with complimentary toiletries that you can bring back.

image

Vanity table with plenty of light. This is simply love at first sight for little vainpots like me.

image

Towelling robe and iron can be found in the wardrobe.

image

The Executive room is also equipped with a spacious study area, making it a perfect room for those who are here not only for leisure but for business as well.

image

Sparkling night view from the balcony of my room.

image

The mini bar is interesting; instead of the regular instant coffee and tea satchet, guests gets to brew their own capsule espresso and traditional Chinese tea.

image

Cafes Richard Coffee Machine. Cafes Richard is a world famous French cafe that serves delicious food and coffers and so far there is only one of it in Malaysia; in SkyAvenue at Resorts World Genting.I’ve been to Cafes Richard in SkyAvenue, Resorts World Genting and their cold drip coffees are to die for. And the one that’s brewed by this capsule machine is equally good. A must try if you’re staying at RED by Sirocco.

image

Traditional teapot for you to brew Chinese tea. I can’t read Chinese, so I’m not sure what tea are these. I suppose they must be from the famous variant, from the look of the packaging.

image

I’m not much a coffee drinker but I couldn’t resist a cuppa first thing in the morning during my stay. It serves as a wonderful pick me up drink to perk me up for the rest of the day.

image

I was at RED by Sirocco for a rest&relax weekend, but I’m not the sort of person who likes to slack off when it comes to working out. After all, I kinda feel like I’ve been out of shape these days due to all my foodie adventures. So I decided to check out The Fitness Centre at RED by Sirocco and I’m glad that I did. It’s complimentary to be used by in-house guests and it’s decently equipped with weights and cardio equipments. Not forgetting that it’s sufficiently mirrored, making it a perfect place for my cardio dance routine. Here’s yours truly working out, first thing in the morning before breakfast.

image

I had my breakfast at The Rogue Club. The Rouge Club is actually a cool sky club that doubles as a cafe in the morning during breakfast time.

image

The inifinity pool overlooking beautiful city view at The Rouge Club. I wanted to take short morning swim at the pool after my workout, but it was drizzling that morning. Swimming while raining is a no no, so I had to shelve that idea and just enjoy my breakfast instead.

image

The Rouge Club may look all serene and calm, located on the 25th floor of RED by Sirocco, but at night, it’s a perfect place for a night out with friends. The place served a variety of cocktails, with DJs and live bands playing music on weekends or special occasions.

image

The Rouge Club offers plenty of delicious things for breakfast ranging from local delights like Nasi Lemak, Noodles and Porridges to Western Style Breakfast, but I like my breakfast light instead of heavy and so I assembled my own sandwich from the pastry and cheese section and paired it with a cup of fruit yogurt.

image

Decicing to make the most out of my staycation, I visited The RUB Bar for more R&R ‘ME’ time before I leave.

image

The RUB Bar (a word play on ‘raba’ which translates to ‘to rub’ in English) was recently opened to both Malaysians and tourists at RED by Sirocco Kuala Lumpur. The spa offers premium quality services and products at a really reasonable prices.

image

The RUB Bar has its own natural wellness products such as aromatherapy oils for detoxification, lotions for muscle relief and relaxing as well as body scrubs.

image

Checking out the Fun Soap section. These are among their bestsellers and customers’ all time favourite.

image

Wanderbath soaps and bath bombs spotted over here too.

image

You may also customise your own ‘The RUB Bar Body Scrub’ or lotion to your own liking.

image

But what I’m here for is their massage. With more than 10 treatment areas for guests to enjoy some private “ME” time, The RUB Bar is a sanctuary for those who wants to rejuvenate their bodies.

image

I went for the foot Reflexology and Body Massage package and here’s my therapist giving me a footbath before proceeding with the massage.

image

Getting massaged. It feels so good but here’s trying my best not to laugh out loud when the therapist was massaging my feet cuz I’m awfully ticklish there.

image

Once the foot reflexology session is up, I was ushered upstairs to the curtained treatment are.

image

Sorry guys, no pictures of me here. I was in nothing but my panties and a towel as my therapist massaged my body. I was told that it was just a basic traditional Malaysian massage, but it feels pretty much like magic to me. I feel so relaxed that I fell asleep during the treatment.

image

A picture of me after the treatment. I felt so rejuvenated and relaxed that I thought that it’ll be really nice if I can just go back to the room and sleep. But alas, the clock already stroke 12 and I needed to check out and return to the realm of reality. Such a shame.

My staycation at RED by Sirocco is short, but really relaxing and rejuvenating. I usually prefer eco-escapades to staycations like this, but I have to say that it recharged me much more than my camping or trekking trips. A perfect remedy for a tired mind and body. I guess I’ll be back here again soon for more R&R treats when I feel all stressed out again.

Rejuvenating Experience at The RUB Bar, Kuala Lumpur

Feeling tired and need some pampering “ME” time? Well, get a good rub at The RUB Bar.

image

Located just beside Red by Sirocco hotel in Kuala Lumpur, The RUB Bar offers massaging services that will melt your stress away.

image

The RUB Bar (a word play on ‘raba’ which translates to ‘to rub’ in English) was recently opened to both Malaysians and tourists at RED by Sirocco Kuala Lumpur. The spa offers premium quality services and products at a really reasonable prices.

image

There are complimentary refreshments and light snacks for you to enjoy while you wait for the therapist to attend to you.

image

The RUB Bar has its own natural wellness products such as aromatherapy oils for detoxification, muscle relief and relaxing.

image

Checking out the Fun Soap section at The RUB Bar. These are among their bestsellers and customers’ all time favourite. From afar, I mistook them for sliced cakes. They look delicious enough to eat.

image

Cute and colourful looking Wanderbath soaps and bath bombs spotted too over here.

image

You may also customise your own ‘The Rub Bar Body Scrub’ or lotion to your own liking.

image

But as much as I like the soaps and stuff, what I was really there for is their massage. With more than 10 treatment areas for guests to enjoy some private “ME” time, The RUB Bar is a sanctuary for those who wants to rejuvenate their bodies.

image

They have plenty of things on their menu, but I had my eyes on the foot Reflexology and Body Massage package and here’s my therapist giving me a footbath before proceeding with the massage.

image

Getting massaged. It feels so good but here’s trying my best not to laugh out loud when the therapist was massaging my feet cuz I’m awfully ticklish there.

image

Once the foot reflexology session is up, I was ushered upstairs to the curtained area where I was given my full body massage treatment.

image

Sorry guys, no pictures. I was in nothing but my panties and a towel as my therapist massaged my body. I was told that it was just a basic traditional Malaysian massage, but it feels pretty much like magic to me. The massage took about 1hour and a half I feel so relaxed that I fell asleep during the treatment.

image

A picture of me after the treatment. I felt so rejuvenated and relaxed that I feel like going back to just sleep.

Now, let me be honest with all of you here. I’m not a huge fan of body massage, cuz I have bad experience in a spa before where the therapist exert too much energy and I got sore for two weeks before I feel better again, but I am glad that I gave The RUB Bar a try as the therapist knew how to control the pressure when she massaged me. Being ticklish on my foot aside, I felt nothing but fully relaxed and refreshed after treatment. Now, if your body are feeling tired and need an effectively quick recharging, I suggest you get some good rubbing at The RUB Bar.

The list of services include:
– Body massage, with or without aromatherapy oil (from RM69),

BaRnana Leaf Restaurant Offers Banana Leaf Rice and More with A Twist

Love banana leaf rice? As a true blue Malaysian inside out, I sure do love to indulge in banana leaf rice whenever I have terrible cravings for carbs. Just the thought of a plate loaded up with piping hot rice flooded by spicy curries and surrounded with a variety of fresh vegetable dishes and addictive papadoms is enough to salivate me.

image

There are plenty of restaurants serving banana leaf rice in Kuala Lumpur, but here’s one in Kuala Lumpur that’s pretty impressive; the BaRnana Leaf. The quaint restaurant is located next to BaRkery at Red Hotel by Sirocco with an open bar space outside the establishment.

image

What’s usually highlighted here is the basic banana leaf set that comes with rice and three types of vegetables and a curry, but if you are looking for more to tease your palate, visit BaRnana Leaf restaurant on Sunday and ask for their Briyani Rice.

image

Here’s yours truly deciding to try some Briyani Rice during her visit. They are offering briyani rice in three varieties; Vegetarian Briyani, Chicken Briyani and Mutton Briyani. Visiting with family and friends, we decided to order all three and share em among ourselves.

image

What’s interesting is that the large portion of fragrant Briyani Rice are served in a special clay pot wear.

image

Vegetarian Briyani (RM12.00). As the name suggested, this briyani rice is cooked only with vegetables and is topped with boiled egg(you may opt to omit the eggs if you’re a strict vegetarian). It may look like nothing much, but among all of the briyani rice that are offered here at the restaurant, the Vegetarian Briyani is my favourite. The spices are not overwhelming and is pretty light on the palate.

image

Chicken Briyani (RM18.00). The chicken was tender and the briyani rice was practically bursting with flavours. Those who likes strong tasting food will definitely love the chicken briyani.

image

Mutton Briyani (RM24.00). A fan of meaty food? Go for the mutton briyani. It’s pretty promising. The rice was really fragrant with herbs and spices. No worries about the usual gamey smell that comes from the mutton. There was absolutely none in this one, I assure you. The mutton absorbed the spices really well and complemented the rice perfectly.

After all the lovely briyani rice, you may choose to wash down the briyani rice meals with a cup of tea or coffee, but do note that this is a fusion of a bar and a restaurant, so if you feel like getting a sip of those adult drinks, don’t be shy, simply ask for a glass of cocktail or two.

The claypot briyani is only available on Sundays from 12pm-4pm.

Know. was produced by Andrew Wells, who brings an organic and groovy feel to the album’s classic, acoustic rock sound. “I see it as a sonic evolution from my last album, YES!”

Mraz says. “It’s just got a bit more caffeine, whereas my last album was a bit more herbal tea.” Know. reteams Mraz with his longtime collaborators, Raining Jane.
