Homestay Development in Selangor

Many have heard and used the word ‘homestay’ without fully understanding the actual definition of it.  It is usually confused as a home lodging facility, but it actually is more than just that.  The homestay programme is where tourists are given the opportunity to stay with a family in their home and experience the daily life of the chosen community in local villages.  The tourists get to learn about the culture and lifestyle of the community, as well as participate in their daily activities.

image

In Selangor, homestays are carefully handpicked and have to meet the set criteria before they are promoted by Tourism Selangor. The homestay programmes are usually categorised according to the activities that are provided, such as, Culture & Lifestyle, Economic Activity, Recreation and Environmental Preservation.  Recently, a budget of RM398,000 has been set aside to develop programmes for Community Based Tourism that provides training and guidance for local communities to better manage homestays and tourism related activities.  Three local districts have been identified suitable for this programme and training will commence very soon.

The three popular districts among tourists in Selangor, are homestays in Sabak Bernam, Sepang and Kuala Selangor and the top 5 are,  Homestay Papitusulem (Sabak Bernam), Homestay Sungai Haji Dorani (Sabak Bernam), Homestay Air Manis (Sabak Bernam), Homestay Banghuris (Sepang) and Homestay Sungai Sireh (Kuala Selangor).  Homestay has definitely become an attraction to local and foreign tourists, who extremely wish for a wonderful and peaceful atmosphere of rural paddy field and only a few hours from central. Each of these homestays have their own specialities and individual charm.

image

However, the one thing that they do have in common is the friendly family atmosphere of the host communities. Activities that are offered are common to the communities living there and guests are able to participate in most of them including, paddy planting or harvesting, fruit plucking, planting fruit trees, rubber tapping, harvesting palm fruits and other agro-based activities.  Apart from the agro-based activities, there are also cultural shows in the evenings and guests can visit the SME factories to see how local products are produced, as well as sample some of the local delicacies.

image

The cultural shows are a big hit with tourists, where they are treated to real traditional dances such as, ‘Tarian Poja’, ‘Tarian Cemara’, ‘Tarian Maduppa Bosara’ and ‘Tarian Pattennung’, accompanied by traditional music.  This cultural dances still kept alive by the local villagers.  Another one of the must-try is a sweet delicacy called, ‘Kuih Bangkit Bugis’, contrary to the more popular varieties found elsewhere locally, these are cookies that are similar to shortbread cookies and simply melt in your mouth.

Also unique to these homestays are their local traditional cuisine which can only be found here. There are many local delicacies and whatever dishes that are served, are guaranteed to be simple, fresh and totally delicious.

Holiday Package to the Balkans/Package Percutian ke Balkan

Looking for an adventure, anyone? Not sure where to go to satisfy your wanderlust and your raging needs for Adrenaline rush? Why not get high on happiness and explore the Balkans? Cobblestoned streets, fairy-tale forests, wine regions, medieval towns, sandy beaches, ancient ruins, cosmopolitan capitals, old bazaars, castles with haunting legends and over a thousand of beautiful islands with surrounding blue sea. Sounds like an adventure of a lifetime, no?

image

The Balkans is an area situated in Southeastern and Eastern Europe. The distinct identity and fragmentation of the Balkans owes much to its common and often violent history regarding centuries of Ottoman conquest and to its very mountainous geography.

Here’s listing some places that you might want to leave your footsteps at while visiting Balkan:

image

* Mostar’s iconic 16th-century stone bridge and Dubrovnik’s Old Town walls – have been painstakingly resurrected. Beyond the sights to be seen, though, it’s the unabashed hospitality that makes each day spent in the Balkans surprising.

* Albania’s and Macedonia’s ominous mountain peaks are made for hiking and biking, and there are wild rivers to raft in Bosnia & Hercegovina, Serbia or Slovenia. For those who would rather just absorb the great outdoors than set out to conquer them, some of the boat rides in the Balkans glide you past idyllic scenery incomparable to any in the world.

image

* Just walk down the street. Though change is coming on quickly, timeless traditions and cultural customs aren’t falling by the wayside. Blood feuds in some parts aren’t as ancient as they ought to be and pastoral scenes are still as home-grown as they ever were. It’s a region where you can barely keep up with the nightlife, but still get stuck behind a horse and cart.

image

*Urban landscapes are a pop-up book of ancient architecture on a grand scale, and winding Ottoman streets are punctuated with Austro-Hungarian villas and the occasional communist concrete block. Throw in Roman ruins and a Venetian facade, then wrap it all in a medieval wall and plonk it by the sea. History isn’t just ancient in the Balkans, it’s epic. This was the battleground and resting place of the Byzantine, Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empires; a stroll through town can evoke the rise and fall of civilisations.

image

* Visit local markets and restaurants and be assured that a quiet lunch by yourself can quickly morphed into dinner by the seaside with enthusiastic locals will insist on you trying everything that they have on the menu.

Seeing Balkan with your very own eyes will not only make lasting memories, but will leave beautiful composition on your instagram as well. Ocean Groove with Maestro Ning at the SkySymphony, SkyAvenue at Resorts World Genting

19th and 20th of May has always been very special to both my husband and I. 19th May is not only his birthday but it is also day that we got married. 20th May on the other hand, was the date that we met each other for the first time years back. It is the year 2018 as of writing. It’s been 16 years of us being together and we usually make a point to celebrate both his birthday and our anniversary by going on a short getaway.

Sadly, the date coincide with Ramadan this year, and as much as we wanted to go for a little getaway for our anniversary, we couldn’t, as we should be fasting alongside with our Muslim brothers and sisers and it wouldn’t be convenient for us to go anywhere far or sign up for extreme outdoor activities to mark the occasion with.

Luckily for us though, Resorts World Genting is just 45mins drive away from home in KL and we decided that it would be a perfect place to celebrate our special day at. It is not too far and doesn’t require much traveling on our part. We had plenty of things planned out for our birthday and anniversary day out at our favourite weekend getaway spot, but our first stop was the SkySymphony in SkyAvenue, Resorts World Genting. It so happens that they were launching a new winch balls show that day on 19th May and we thought we shouldn’t miss it. And here’s sharing with you the latest, not to be missed attraction in Resorts World Genting.

image

Incorporated to deliver premium and world class content in CG productions, Genting Malaysias CG animated production company, Genting Studios premiered its brand new and original production of CG-animated show, the Ocean Groove with Maestro Ning at the SkySymphony, SkyAvenue at Resorts World Genting.

Check out the video taken. The five (5) minute show features Maestro Ning in the deep-ocean with his orchestra playing a powerful original composition, Ocean Groove.

image

It’s really lovely, I assure you. The Maestro is a musical genius; a tempestuous sea turtle who embodies the artistic temperament.

image

With a flick of his baton, the Maestro makes musical magic with the colourful collective of fish and crustacean instruments on a stunning stage in the ocean depths.

image

Ocean Groove with Maestro Ning will be staged at the SkySymphony, where nearly four story high LED screens surrounding the concourse will come alive with the new musical show, complemented by the state-of-the-art 1,001 winch balls that synchronizes and move to form different shapes to tell this colorful and musical underwater story.

Dance Performance at SkySymphony, Resorts World Genting

Uploaded by K Network Media on 2018-05-22.

And that’s not all, there will be a very special live dance performance where visitors can journey on a marvellous adventure with colourful and fun creatures from the depths of the deep blue sea at the Times Square stage at SkyAvenue in Resorts World Genting for the upcoming weeks in May.

image

Visitors can catch 15 performers come out as silly crustaceans, a fabulous octopus witch, seahorses, charming corals and other mysterious mythical creatures from the ocean.

image

The characters’ designs are highly imaginative, to say the least. Just take a look at this one. Beautiful, don’t you think?

image

The majetic Sea King suavely making his move on the dance floor.

image

There’s even romantic fun incorporated in the performance

image

Fantastic showmanship by the performers, I must say.

image

If you are up in Resorts World Genting, be sure to drop by the SkySymphony area in SkyAvenue and enjoy the show.

The live performance is scheduled for your enjoyment in May, specifically 19- 20 May and 26-29 May, for 20 minutes at various show times: 11.00am, 1.00pm, 3.00pm, 5.00pm and 8.00pm.

The performers will also be having a walkabout at SkyAvenue and First World Plaza, so keep your eyes peeled for that too.

Ocean Groove with Maestro Ning premieres at SkySymphony on May 19, 2018. Shows are complimentary and are scheduled throughout the day, with different presentations on a rotation from 10 am to midnight alongside other SkySymphony shows. Other shows include the Forest, Urban Symphony and The Goddess.

Puas Puas Puasa with California Raisins

So, I was invited to participate in a pastry decorating competition hosted by California Raisins during their ‘Puas Puas Puasa’ event at Royal Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Now, I’m no culinary maestro and decorating things is not my forte but I dragged myself over to the event regardless and took up the challenge.

image

Here’s yours truly and her creation. Please pardon the messy and bedraggled appearance. The event was in the morning and as you know, I’m not exactly a morning person. I will only look quite fresh and human after lunch time.

image

Here’s my masterpiece. Unlike other contestants who came up with very creative and beautiful deco for their pastries, mine was rather simple. This piece was inspired by a famous historical landmark in Teluk Intan, Perak, the Menara Condong Teluk Intan. If you are wondering why it doesn’t look straight, well, I did it on purpose as the clock tower it was inspired from really does lean slightly sideways in real life.

image

Beautiful pastry deco from other participants.

image

Needless to say, I did not win the competition and here’s the winners of the pastry decorating competition organized by California Raisins. Their creation are beautiful and definitely out of my league. Winning does not matter to me, though. I did it for experience and the sheer fun of it.

And speaking of experience, apart from pastry decorating competition, the ‘Puas Puas Puasa’ event was actually a knowledge-sharing event where the invited guests shares tips on how to stay energetic throughout the fasting period of Ramadan by consuming California Raisins. This of course applies for those who are fasting for whatever reasons, be it because of religious obligations or health purpose.

image

A popular TV personality, Nur Affizza Azmi demonstrated 3 recipes using California Raisins for busy and active working professional to enjoy during the fasting month.

image

Three of the recipes demonstrated; California Raisin Tomyum Chicken Angel Hair Pasta, California Raisin Sweet&Sour Doughnuts and California Raisin Puas Smoothies. These dishes can of course, be eaten and enjoyed during both sahur and breaking fast. These are really easy to preparw and busy people like me no longer need to compromise on health and nutrition, especially during the fasting month, when they are too tired to prepare breakfast or dinner.

image

California Raisins are a healthy snack for both adults and children alike. Dried in the warm California sunshine, the little dried fruits has many benefits that helps to maintain a healthy lifestyle compared with other snack foods, as they are naturally sweet and do not contain any added sugar. California Raisins are also a very versatile ingredient and can inspire a wide repertoire of dishes-from appetisers and main dishes to desserts and beverages especially as consumers are becoming more health conscious and more adventurous in their culinary endeavours. A plus point? The package of California Raisins fits pertectly in a purse or briefcase. They also conveniently fit in lunch boxes, gym bags, and in your desk drawer. Apart from that, California Raisins are also economical, do not bruise and are easy to use straight out of the box- no washing, peeling or chopping required-so one can create a simple meal to help you sustain your energy throughout the day.

California Raisins are definitely the ideal ingredient to prepare quick, energy-boosting and nutritious meals. For more information and recipes using California Raisins, hop over to www.calraisins.org  and www.caraisins.com or FB:@RACAsean

Samsung Flip – The Next Step in the Evolution of Workplace Collaboration

Look around the modern office workplace and what do you see? Probably computers with post it notes and amidst them, one business tool that has stood the test of time in being pen-stained with ideas – whiteboards. Although whiteboards remain a mainstay for businesses today, they are still analogue. If only there was a clever solution to write, present, save and share ideas in a more efficient and engaging manner?

image

Enter Samsung Flip, Samsung’s digital flip chart that transforms the modern meeting with new interactive and more collaborative digital engagement. By reducing the challenges faced when organising, facilitating and recapping meeting notes, Samsung is committed to keeping the paperless dream alive with its vision of a “Workplace of the Future”, believing that workplaces will now have an environment that nurtures high productivity and creativity results.
“In today’s day and age, many companies are embracing open-plan office environments where meetings are more likely to occur spontaneously rather than in meeting rooms. With this in mind, we are introducing the Samsung Flip to take digital collaboration to a new level with superior mobility and usability features that foster a creative, collaborative and productive business environment. Endless workplace possibilities will now be at the tip of your fingers, anytime and anywhere, and we look forward to continue helping businesses work smarter and more efficiently,” said Yoonsoo Kim, President, Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

image

An upgrade on both standard paper flip charts and analogue boards, the Samsung Flip display expands opportunities to generate game-changing ideas while maintaining the familiar feel of traditional writing. Additionally, the Flip’s portable, wheel-based stand transforms any location into a meeting workspace, giving businesses with limited conference spaces some added flexibility.

image

Productive and Interactive Collaboration

Through simultaneous multi-user engagement, Samsung Flip ensures that all voices and ideas are heard during brainstorm meetings. Up to four different participants can introduce content or annotate directly on screen at the same time using either their fingers or a dual-sided pen. In doing so, users can customise their own writing style, size and colour, with each notation made clear and visible through a viewer-friendly 55-inch UHD display.

For added interactivity, the Samsung Flip display offers extensive device compatibility through PC, mobile ports, and both wireless connectivity and USB. An integrated screen-sharing functionality makes Flip content available on connected PCs, smartphones and tablets without interruption or reduced visual quality. Likewise, users can import personally-stored content onto the Flip display’s screen and introduce fresh ideas to the discussion.

Customised and Comfortable Creativity
The Samsung Flip display delivers unprecedented collaboration efficiency by condensing the multiple tools and processes required for a traditional meeting into a sleek, stylish all-in-one design. Participants do not need a specialised touch pen to interact with the screen, and can erase notes through a quick palm swipe. Flip users also can access up to 20 pages of writing space, with embedded search functionalities available to instantly direct participants to specific content. This continuous, rolling stream avoids the lost time and interruptions that often result as participants have to search through multiple sheets of paper or lines of notes to locate a specific detail.

Each Flip display is customisable and can configure to portrait or landscape orientations to suit unique meeting needs. When coupled with its height-adjustable stand, the Flip maximizes available writing space at users’ preferred positions. Should a meeting require more a centralised and roundtable-style discussion, users can opt to remove and connect the Flip display to a compatible wall mount.

Convenient and Secure Conclusion
As meetings wrap up, the Samsung Flip display securely stores all content within a central database, eliminating the need for cumbersome recaps or handwritten transcription. An airtight, password-based protection system safeguards meeting details and ensures that only approved users can access the information. Once logged in, meeting facilitators and participants can download and share featured content through email or traditional printing. Users additionally can save meeting notes into a USB drive or other external sources.

The Samsung Flip is now available in Malaysia at a recommended retail price of RM12,999.

Where to Buka Puasa Ramadan 2018: Blue Cafe, Bandar Mahkota Cheras

It is almost essential for all eateries to feature traditional Malay dishes in their Ramadan buffet in Malaysia, but if you want something different to break your fast with instead of the usual roasted lamb, ayam percik or bubur lambuk, you might want to head over to Blue Cafe.

image

Located in Bandar Mahkota Cheras, the cafe offers Western-Fusion dishes in their Ramadan Buffet.

image

There are plenty of food items that are being offered at the cafe for their Ramadan buffet, but since this is a buffet and I can’t possibly eat everything, I’ll just highlight what’s worth your calories.

image

The main carbs; rice and pastas are plentiful.

image

Creamy Carbonara was simply sensational. Rich and creamy, this pasta dish is simply comforting on the tummy. Perfect for you to break fast with.

image

Aglio Olio. For someone who wants a simpler pasta dish that is not complicated on their palate, Aglio Olio would be a good choice.

image

Indo Mee Goreng. I did not managed to try this, but according to my husband, this was not too shabby. The noodles were simple but perfectly flavoured.

image

Yong Chow fried rice. Slightly on the sweet note, this fried rice is for those who must have rice in their meals.

image

Assorted chops and grilled items is great to be had on their own, or you can mix and match them with the available pastas or fries to make it a wholesome meal.

image

Assorted Pizzas is definitely a must try at Blue Cafe. The pizzas are on rotation basis, though, so be prepared to be surprised with their selection of pizzas.

image

Rendang Pizza. Topped with beef rendang toppings, this pizza is simply a fusion of East and West. A must try, in my opinion. The pizza leans on a spicy note, though. But it’s on the mild side, no worries about burning your tongue.

image

Smoky duck pizza. Topped generously with smoke duck slices, chicken sausages and pineapple slices, this pizza is a huge hit with young children. It’s not only flavourful, but satisfying on the palate as well.

image

Pizza with Lychee. This pizza is a must try for those who are non-traditionalist and is adventurous when it comes to food. This pizza is set to please your palate with natural juicy goodness that comes from the fat lychees and pineapple slices.

image

Fruits. Local fruits are available to cleanse your palate with.

image

Cakes and desserts are of course available, so be sure to grab some if you are dining at Blue Cafe.

Satay, served with sweet and spicy peanut sauce and a side of nasi impit and cucumber slices is a must try.

image

Seafood Otak-Otak is a type of seafood paste dish. Strongly flavoured, this will definitely excite your palate.

Freshly grilled fishes and air assam will definitely lure you in for more.

image

Ayam percik. Get some of these to your table, and don’t forget the creamy spicy sauce.

image

A special Sup Citarasa Awana stall – a restaurant specialty will be spoiling you with bowls of Sup Gear Box ‘Lambreta’, Sup Perut, Sup Daging and other treats, served with Roti Banggali to mop all that liquid goodness.

Sup Gear Box ‘Lambreta’. This will surely warm up your tummy in a jiffy after a long day fasting.

Can’t live without having rice? Fret not. There are plenty of rice dishes that makes and appearance here at the buffet in different forms like Nasi Dagang, Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Briyani and Nasi Putih. The assortments of rice will nake great pairing with the hot curries and dishes from the main station – including Gulai Lemak Daging Salai, Asam Pedas Ikan Pari, Rendang Tok, Patin Tempoyak, Pajeri Terung, Tempeh with Potatoes and Japanese Taufo with Mushrooms.

Love Penang and Mamak style cuisine? Head over to the Penang station.

All time favourite Nasi Kandar items like Kari Kepala Ikan, Kambing Masala, Kari Sotong, Chicken Prathal and Dalca Sayur can be spotted here for your enjoyment. Just grab some plain rice or nasi briyani and flood them with these. You won’t regret it, I assure you.

Love noodles? Well, they have that too. Visit the noodle counter and get yourselves a bowl or two.

One of my personal favourite from the Noodle Station is the Ipoh Curry Noodles. Simply sensational and flavourful on the palate.

The Char Koay Teow is worthy of your attention as well.

image

Interesting showcase at this Ramadan buffet for your dining pleasure is the Sotong Kangkung.

image

The sotong kangkung taste as good and as authentic as those you can usually find in street stalls and pasar malam.

image

The Goreng Goreng stall on the other hand offers all sorts of seafood, fried fresh upon request. There are a few types of fishes, prawns, squids, crabs, you name it.

image

I’ve always been a fan of fried seafood. Especially fried crabs and prawns. So, how many of the fried seafood did I consumed? Well, ask me no questions, and I’ll tell you no lies. All I can say is that I took more than enough to indulge my gluttony.

image

Another exotic food item you can find in the buffet is the Nasi Bamboo.

image

Nasi Bamboo is a traditional Malaysian rice dish that can hardly be found these days.

image

The young and the young at hearts will most definitely be delighted by huge selection of ice creams.

image

Ice cream Malaysia. A very old school and nostalgic way to enjoy the sweet confection.

image

So, how about drinks? There are plenty of drinks at the buffet like Sirap Bandung, Sirap Selasih, Soy Milk, Air Mata Kucing, Air Asam Boi, Teh Tarik and fresh fruit juices.

image

Teh Tarik is definitely a winner, though. Served in a plastic bag the way you’d get it in mamak joints, you can even request the iced version of it.
