It is that special time of the year again. When families come together under the soft light of lanterns and the moon, to feast on mooncakes and contemplate the beauty and poetry of the full celestial body. The Mid-Autumn festival is a beloved time of the year, and Resorts World Genting is throwing a Tea Party on the Moon from 10 August to 16 September 2019 for the occasion. It will be a fun-filled time full of fabulous food and fantastic frolics, led off by the new Moondance animated show at the SkySymphony stage at SkyAvenue with plenty of variety of mooncakes to savor and also a spectacular performance at Times Square.
Hosted by Resorts World Genting at the SkyAtrium, the scene recreates the celestial setting as seen in the Moondance SkySymphony show. Under a shower of multi-coloured neon lanterns, the Party On The Moon brings together all the key elements of the Mid-Autumn Festival – bunnies, mooncakes and stars – built on a floor that has been transformed in a bright full moon.
Infinity lights serve as the gateway to the Moondance rocket and the Tea Party, which pulsates with a futuristic, modern gleam with a touch of whimsy through cuddly bunny and rabbit ear decorations. Seasonal treats for the Tea Party will be served across 8 booths, including the signature Resorts World Genting mooncake delights as well as delicious snacks from Grand Imperial, Overseas, Good Chen, Dragon I and Duria. It’s a joyous place for a joyous celebration, and a place where all elements of Resorts World Genting’s Mid-Autumn festival come together in one bright and beautiful venue.
“From our soaring vantage point above the clouds, the entirety of Resorts World Genting has a wonderful clear view of the moon. This is the perfect atmosphere for the Mid-Autumn festival, and we have always strived to celebrate this very important holiday in a very special way,” says Dato’ Edward Holloway, Executive Vice President of Leisure and Hospitality for Resorts World Genting. “Guests come from far and wide during this season to sample our delicious mooncakes and enjoy our themed attractions. So this year, we are thrilled to be able to send them over the moon with our spectacular visual interpretation of the traditional mooncake fable, as well as with our adorable and futuristic moon bunnies hopping around.”
For some spectacular entertainment at the SkySymphony stage, Moondance, produced over four months by the Genting Studios team in Los Angeles and Kuala Lumpur – the CG animation arm of Genting Malaysia – will transport guests of the resort to the moon and back with a visual spectacle featuring classic themes of the Mid-Autumn festival. The show, which plays out across wraparound 360-degree LED screens spread across four storeys and a state-of-the-art kinetic lighting system, starts off on Earth. In search of adventure, Genting’s Highland Heroes – Tabby the Tiger, Allie the Elephant, Joe the Orangutan, Geno the Dinosaur, Benny the Entertainer and Callie the Dragon – then board a rocket ship that takes them to the moon where they meet with a troupe of spirited Moon Bunnies. Introductions and hijinks ensue and the encounter culminates in a joyous dance party captured in full, imaginative visual splendour.
Moondance is the third CG-animated show from Genting Studios, and the second to feature Genting’s Highland Heroes. Directed by Guy Vasilovich and Executive-Produced by Daniel Regis Brown and Steven Lim Tze Siang, Moondance also features an original composition by Emmy Award-winning composer Gigi Meroni.
“Genting’s Highland Heroes were first introduced to the world in Jungle Jam, and now we are taking the characters and the party to a whole new level into outer space with Moondance,” says Daniel Regis Brown, Head of Genting Studios. “In this spectacular scene, our Heroes will meet some new furry friends and learn new dance movies through a beautiful CG-animated extravaganza. This is a true festival celebration and we look forward to seeing our guests’ reaction to Genting’s Highland Heroes in this delightful, top-quality animated adventure.”
But the party doesn’t just stop there. The Mid-Autumn mood goes beyond the screens to becoming a tangible part of the Genting experience. The rabbits that live on the moon according to festival folklore have descended to the mountain and are ready to sing and dance with guests. Kicking off as part of the Tea Party on the Moon is the Bunnies Show, where 5 cute Bubbly Bunnies and 5 futuristic Space Bunnies will pop up regularly on Level 2 and Level 4 of SkyAvenue for a fun-filled dance routine, before leading guests to meet up at SkyAtrium for a photo shoot and a finale Stage Show at the Times Square stage. The Bunnies Show Parade and Stage Show will take place 4 times a day (11am, 1pm, 4pm and 7pm) on selected dates between August 10 and September 16, 2019.
With the bunnies hopping all over the mountaintop, it creates the perfect atmosphere to sup on some indulgent mooncakes. The famed pastry chefs of Resorts Word Genting have outdone themselves this year, serving up long-standing favourites and some innovative new recipes. Available at special kiosks and restaurants across the resort will be the top five flavors from 2018 – Lotus Paste Single Yolk, Pu Er Single Yolk, Low Sugar White Lotus Paste, Golden Jade Single Yolk and Green Tea Lotus Paste. The spirit for creativity has also conjured up three fascinating new flavours for 2019: the silky White Lotus Paste with XO Jingsa, the fragrant Pandan Jade with Choco Hazelnuts and the velvety Durian Paste with Premium Durian.
