Do you remember who was your first?

Do you remember who was your first? I am not sure if any of you out remembered who was your first. But I do. I remembered the first few people who dropped by my blog and gave me comments when I just started blogging.

When I first started, I never did expect anyone to even read my ranting and raving about Malaysian politic back then in Pak Lah’s not so glorious and sleepy era. I never did intend anyone to read my writing even, but people did, and back then, I was really, really surprised that they actually stumbled upon my blog and were actually hooked on it.

My first commenter was Warrior…the second one was Malaysianjoe, the third was Calvin of Calvinsoo Photography, a blogger turned photographer. Most of them are not active bloggers anymore, and somehow, I missed the good old times with them where we could discuss and debate about the happenings in Malaysia. I enjoyed their presence in my blog so much, as they made my brain twist and turn, and despite of being obscene and disgusting and plain chauvinistic at times, I enjoyed the intellectual discussion that I shared with them back then.

More often than not, we were hardly in agreement with each other on certain issues, but at the end of the day, it was pretty satisfying, because they gave honest opinion and never did hold grudge against each other, and keeps coming back for more. It was pretty refreshing. And they were never the ‘touch and go kind’.

There  were loads of comments from them for just one article every day. Such thing hardly happen anymore. These days, some people just leave their comments just so that their existence is known in hope that they will get traffic from there. Such thing doesn’t happen only in my blog I believe. It happens to almost everyone out there.

And then Pete came along.. Yes… Pete, the foodie blogger who is the only one who is still active among the four, and he introduced to me to the world of food blogging, and there starts my nightmare.

I have come to learn not to blog hop with empty stomach ever again since he came into my life. He never failed to tempt me with his home-cook dishes and made me laugh at his ‘American Friend’ jokes. That was when I was introduced to the fun side of blogging. I never did actually hang out in blogs that revolves around family, food or even diary-like blogs until Pete came along. In truth, I never really did knew that they even exists in the first place. I used to think that blogging is about expressing opinion on current issues not diaries or something of that sort.

As time goes by, more and more people came to my blog and left their trace in my blog, and the conversation in my comment box were not as intense. They are much more lighter, not serious, and perhaps it’s because I’ve really tone down a lot; for I no longer write about politics and current issues on daily basis.

Sometimes, what I wrote was merely for the reading pleasures of my readers, and I came to wonder if toning down is really worth it? Cuz somehow…intellectual discussion became very rare, and some readers could not really stomach honest opinion and gets sensitive rather easily, and some only likes beautiful things instead of ugly truth.

Things really do change, I guess. I’ve come a long way in blogging that sometimes, I am forced to reflect, and sometimes, laugh over certain matters that makes me a wiser person in whole.

Cleffairy: It is interesting to note that my first few readers were all man, and they came here, completely armed with opinions and suggestions.

Then after some blog hopping, this blogger mummy consider the 1st to comment and am happy she is still coming in even not daily. https://www.demoments.net/blog/ Actually, she was the one who inspired me to start my own blog. To jot down my children’s milestone. And am happy to meet so many blogger mummy and daddy out there!

looking at the title, i was thinking another first *evil grin* can’t remember mine but it still freaks me seeing strangers coming to my blog. i still care hell lot being judged with what i write, hence i don’t blog much personal stuffs anymore. going mad on the other hand as i’ve no place to rant now =(

    • Cleffairy says:

LOL… nottie, nottie Jen. LOL…*sigh* actually it’s very dangerous to write and post personal stuff online, especially if you’re not an anonymous blogger. Wait blog about kutuk-ing boss, boss find out, den kena goreng. 🙁

*sigh* Either create one anon blog, or make private blog lorr, den can rant.

I just followed your blog recently and honestly wasn’t aware of your political articles back then. 🙂 My first stumble on your blog was Masquerade and I absolutely adored it! 🙂 I guess these days the blogging world has indeed changed to become more commercialized. You see plenty of people leaving comments just to leave a link… Happens everywhere..

    • Cleffairy says:

Hahaha.. it’s good that you are not aware of it, else you also will run away in fright. I sound really mean and nasty when I write politics, and people can scarcely guess that this blog belongs to a woman.

LOL… you like Masquerade kah? LOL…I used to write ‘Fairy Tales’ for Malaysian politics. LOL…better not read…they’re not so innocent wan. LOL…

Yeah… blogging has become very commercialize…a way to earn side income, and sometimes…I really wonder..whether it’s really worth it. Now, it’s not just about blogging anymore. For most, it’s $$… and fame chasing. This is one huge reason why I enjoy STP’s blog very much. Not commercialized at all. Very easy on the eyes, and he definitely will entertain all of his readers, never failed to reply comments!

      • iamthewitch says:

I agree with you.. more and more people write blogs because of $$$. I have a lot of friends asking me how to make money from blogging, but the main reason I blog is not for money. I also have blogger friends where almost all the posts are paid posts or ads. It’s so not personal, so not blog-like anymore.

        • Cleffairy says:

It is just sad, isn’t it? I have to admit, that I started to do paid post as well since 1st Jan2010. But not much paid post. I am very choosy when it comes to doing paid post, cuz I don’t wanna ‘dirty’ my blog with too many unrelated entries. I only take em if the topic is related to what I write.

Before this my blog was completely clean. On wordpress.com, and no ads whatsoever. Not even pay per click ads. I was really happy, but I was forced to migrated out cuz stuff happened last year, and I need some extra $$. LOL. For me.. one or two paid post per month, still okay, I guess.

I understand that some people needs to do paid post because they needed the money. I’m ok with that. I know some bloggers who do paid post because they need to raise their children and whatnot.

But it really annoys me when people do paid post just for the sake of earning or to fully utilize the PR, and not because they need extra cash on hand. Kinda annoying if you ask me. 🙁

Hmm… personal blog? Actually my blog is not quite personal in the first place. It was political. LOL… now not quite political anymore.

  7. Gratitude says:

Whoa, I didn’t know my blog wuz coma-inducing?! lolz

Same as you, my intention to blog was political, but somehow veered to more positive things and since the political scenario became too negative to handle.

Glad we have stuck to blogging, right? I too remembered my 1st commentor. He has since become a great friend, and so have some others along the way. 🙂

Keep on with the wonderful writings ya! ^_^

    • Cleffairy says:

LOL… yes… your writing was coma inducing. They’re very good and sometimes I had to read many times to read between the lines and understand what you’re trying to really imply. 😛 They’re usually very deep. I like it a lot.

I din realize you starts off as a political blogger as well. Yea… like you… I steered into other department…our political environment makes my blood boil, and it’s not worth the effort sometimes to talk about those monkeys in the zoo and clowns performing their lame jokes. 🙁

But for what it’s worth, I’m glad I did stuck to blogging, just like you.

It is true that most of us leave a passing remark and never come back to participate in the discussion. But it helps if the topics are thought provoking and strike a chord with the audience.

Very good post, we can all learn to be better bloggers by not commenting in a scatter shot manner.
