The Best of Jalan Tukang Emas (Goldsmith Street)

You know what I hate most about Malaysians? Well, most of them, especially the ones who are working with the government have absolutely no respect for people’s time, plans and appointment.

You see… I would not… definitely would not consider my little trip to Malacca early in October a vacation. To me, it’s just a short detour to pacify my bloody anger-you know… the not so nice things that happened during the Skudai event. You can hardly call a one night stop in Malacca is a vacation, can you? I had to rush around in Malacca to see and eat the things that I wanted.

Even though I had fun, I did not have enough time to spend in Malacca. Why? AGAIN, because of some other stupid government thing organized by the Ministry of Education, of course. Those creeps who I hope I will never have to make acquaintance with informed my husband about the event that he had to attend for the sake of mankind’s salvation is rather late. *ROLL EYES* Last minute thingie… AGAIN, AGAIN, AGAIN! Grrrrr! I wish I could slap the people in MOE til their teeth fall off. Tsk tsk. My husband is definitely a tolerant creature. If I am placed in his position, I’d surely give a good insult or two in public. I have quite low tolerance for slowpokes and jackasses. If you have better words to describe inefficient people… kindly insert the expletives of your choice in my comment box, thank you very much.

Anyway, as I was saying… instead of having a leisurely time to spend during my Malacca trip… I run around like some sort of uncertified superhero, trying to be everywhere and trying to eat everything at the same time!

I went to one of the small coffee-shop at Jalan Tukang Emas (Goldsmith Street)- the place where I stayed overnight at… it’s a very small shop, but do not ever underestimate small shop like this when you’re in Malacca, as you’re in a surprise or two if you ever underestimate it…

The quaint coffee shop in Jalan Tukang Emas( Goldsmith Street), Malacca.

The entrance to the small coffee-shop in Jalan Tukang Emas, Malacca.

It may look like an ordinary small town kopitiam, but it’s pretty famous among backpackers and the locals. Owned by a couple. A husband and wife who goes by the name Alex and Renee. They’re very friendly people, and spoke very good English too. It’s not a wonder that this place is a very famous spot for tourists.

The place is usually patronized by both locals and backpackers from all over the world, and it is said that the small coffee shop is also featured in ‘Southeast Asia on A Shoestring’ Travel guide book as well. So in other words, this place is Internationally recognized and highly recommended by backpackers.

There’s a tourist message board inside of the shop, and you can leave your mark there for the entire world to see.

One of the interesting message that i saw on the message board is this one. It says: ‘We are cycling around the world…… follow our journey at www.benandmargosworldcycle.blogspot.com.

Interesting, isn’t it? You might want to check them out HERE

I did not want to be left out. So I decided to join the rest of the travelers who patronized this coffee shop and left my message there too.

And below are the the things(s) that I shoved down my throat and down my tummy at one sitting BECAUSE I HAD NO TIME to savour it one by one:

Nasi lemak. Oh… this nasi lemak is something to die for. It’s sensational. This is by far the best nasi lemak I’ve ever tasted, and I don’t even need to eat it with the sambal as it’s already heavenly on it’s own. The kangkung was fried to perfection. It was young, juicy and very sweet. The fried peanuts and anchovies have the right saltiness and crunchiness, and goes very well with the rice. I was really surprised when I had my first mouthful of this nasi lemak. It was really heavenly, and for the first time in my life, I did not take the nasi lemak with the sambal. I just had it on it’s own with the kangkung and other condiments.

Laksa Melaka. Very nice too. My husband had two bowls of these. Too bad there’s bean sprouts in it. I had to spend time to pick out the bean spouts from the laksa cuz I’m allergic to it.

This Beehoon Siam doesn’t look so appetizing eh? But don’t be fooled by the appearance. This is one of the best Beehoon Siam I’ve ever tasted. And if I wasn’t too stuffed with food, I might have considered going for a second or third helping of this. Yes… if i wasn’t so stuffed, I would really go for a few more helpings!

And a must have dessert when you’re in Malacca-Cendol…

This cendol too, is something to die for. Despite of it’s big portion, I managed to shove down 3 bowl of  cendol in one sitting, and had 2 more go at it before we leave the town.

Cleffairy: Well, the Malacca trip was certainly memorable and fruitful, but it could have been much better if those arse in both MOE and the creeps in Skudai  did not screw it up for me.I certainly hope that event organizers could be more professional and more considerate next time. (Dream on! These sort of people will never change or take advices) Hopefully, next time I would have a REAL vacation instead of just a rush trip like this one. I certainly would appreciate the leisurely pace more!

ps: I’m like an elephant. I never forget. And hell hath no fury like a fairy scorned!

Yes… but it was very short. 🙁 Arrived in Malacca around 4pm, overnight there for one night, then went back the next day at 10.30pm. Grrrr! Too short! Not even 48 hours! And I am still pointing fingers at the assholes in MOE for it! Everytime do things, all last minute! Grrr… jackass, donkeyfaced fools!

The road sign ‘Jalan Tukang Emas’ should have been gold plated instead of wooden haha. Oh I luv old ancient buildings and the laksa Melaka looks good, huh your hubby had two..should not be good then but best..tQ

LOL… if it’s gold plated, it’ll be gone the very minute it’s erected there.

Well, yes… the laksa melaka is really good that my husband had two helpings of it. Personally, I prefer the nasi lemak and the bihun siam. 😀

Now government department not as bad in the old days but the terbalik the private sector pulak become inefficient.

You knew that I recently balik kampung for wedding dinner right? Well, the wedding dinner there start on time. Not like in KL say start 7p.m. and have to wait till 9.p.m before can eat.

I guess it’s people mentality. One fella will think another fella will be late for wedding dinner, then the other fella also think that this fella will be late for wedding dinner.

Both will be thinking “you think the rest will be on time? most likely one will be stuck in a traffic jam and another one still at home. I might as well do my own thing first”

It’s like a “Pertandingan”. The winner is the one who arrive last.

It’s like no respect for the bride and groom. After all it’s their big day and they arranged for the wedding dinner. They should not make the couple to wait. An appointment is an appointment. The rest of the guests are late then it’s their own problem.

      I think both government and private sector same oni… 🙁 2×5, 5×2! Typical Malaysians… 🙁

ps: I hate attending weddings… irritates me… free ajer kena bayar saman… bayar saman oni nevermind… nid to see so many kaypohchee king and queen… fed up oni!
