Delicious Muslim-Friendly Vietnamese Cuisine at Super Saigon Cafe

I love Vietnamese cuisines, especially their delicious Pho and delectable Banh Mi. But Vietnamese cuisines usually contains pork as their main ingredients, so finding a restaurant that serves pork-free or a Halal Vietnamese cuisine can be quite a challenge. Lucky for me though, there’s a new Vietnamese restaurant around in Klang Valley that serves Muslim-friendly Vietnamese cuisine.

Using only Halal certified products and suppliers, Super Saigon Cafe focuses on being the first Muslim friendly Vietnamese restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. There are two Super Saigon Cafe in Kuala Lumpur so far. One in TTDI and another one in Sri Hartamas.

I’ve had the privilege to dine at the one in Sri Hartamas. The welcoming interior of the restaurant takes inspiration from the colours of Asia and Mykonos, Greece, resulting in beautiful porcelain inspirations, generous white walls and bright blue with a touch of gold interior. The comfortable al-fresco seating on the other hand is perfect for an island feel.

Here’s what I had at Super Saigon Cafe Sri Hartamas; Special Beef Combination Pho, Stir Fry Teow Noodles with Sliced Beef, Rice Paper Chicken&Prawns,Marinated Ox Tail Banh Mi, Mixed Chicken Cold Cuts Banh Mi, Iced Vietnamese Coffee, Sam Po Leung and fresh coconut juice.

Pronounced as ‘fuh’, pho is renowned as Vietnam’s most popular dish and is often enjoyed for breakfast and lunch and here’s the Super Saigon Special Beef Combination Pho. Very flavourful and very ‘beefy’. The soup was beautifully done and it was pretty pleasing on the palate, with tender beef chunks and all that. This Vietnamese beef noodles come in generous sharing portion, but a big eater will find the portion is just right.

Stir Fry Teow Noodles with Sliced Beef is something I would personally recommend if you like your noodles to be savoury and saucy but not overly done. Similar to the Special Beef Combination Pho, this plate for noodles also comes in a huge portion.

Rice Paper Chicken&Prawns Rolls. Served with a side of sweet peanut sauce dipping, this Rice Paper Chicken&Prawn Rolls is a must try over here.

All of the Banh Mi sandwiches over here are are made fresh to order. I’m a huge fan of the Vietnames Banh Mi sandwiches, so I picked two of their chef’s recommended; Marinated Ox Tail Banh Mi and Mixed Chicken Cold Cuts Banh Mi. Here’s the Marinated Ox Tail Banh Mi. It sure does not disappoint. The Marinated Ox Tail Banh Mi was not just filling but addictive as well. It comes with bird’s eye chillies by default, though. If you are not a fan of spicy sandwiches, do request it to be omited upon ordering.

Mixed Chicken Cold Cuts Banh Mi was simple and fuss free. It’s something I would recommend if you want a quick and filling bite. Similar to the Marinated Ox Tail Banh Mi, this Banh Mi also comes with bird’s eye chillies by default. So, do request it to be omitted if you are not a fan of all things chillies or spicy stuff.

We had Iced Vietnamese Coffee, Sam Po Leung and fresh coconut juice to quench our thirst and to wash everything down with.

Overall, the dining experience here in Super Saigon Cafe is a pleasant one.The best part of all? You can dine with your Muslim family and friends over here. A revisit to this cafe is definitely in schedule.

Justice League Fever in Resorts World Genting

As a child, I was a huge fan of all things fantasy and superheroes. While other girls were busy playing with their dolls and playing house as a child, I stood aside and pretended that I was a superheroine fighting imaginary monsters and trying to save the world from getting destroyed by evil villains. My favourite play pretend character were; Power Rangers, Son Goku, Sailormoon and Supergirl.

While other girls were busy hanging out at malls or going on dates with their boyfriends during their teenage years, I had a huge crush on Clark Kent a.k.a Superman and I was always concerned on what will happen in the next episode of Lois&Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. I was obsessed with the show. While my obsession gains disapproval from my parents, I regret nothing, as obsessing over the fictional Superman brought about positive changes in my life. It was a life-changing turning point for me. Without Superman, I will not be who I am today.

Sounds farfetched? Believe it, because it’s true. For those who are familar with Superman would know that his civilian’s alter ego is the mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent from Daily Planet. Working alongside with his sassy top-notch partner and love interest Lois Lane, Clark and Superman usually saves Metropolis and and writes exclusive articles that has no fear or favour by the end of each episodes. I was always fascinated by the scenes in the newsroom of Daily Planet and how both Lois and Clark handles their news items and writes them into great article pieces. On a personal level, I was inspired on how good reporting could change readers’ life for the better. Clark and his alter ego Superman have always delivered truth and justice, and I wanted that too. Since then, I took immense interest in writing inspiring stories during my spare time. When it was time to pursue my tertiary education, I signed up for Mass Communication and majored in Journalism and ventured into the world of mass media and benefited from the experience of it in countless ways. Today, I am a writer, novelist, blogger and owned my very own small online media company.

For most, Superman is just another fictional superheroes with extraordinary powers. But to me, the character and it’s storyline is an inspiration worth writing about.

I’m now in my early 30s. Plenty of things about me changed throughout the years, but one thing still remain constant; fictional heroes especially Superman still makes my heart beat faster whenever I watch on TV or the movies.

Editor’s Pick: 2017 Year End School Holiday Highlights at Resorts World Genting

It’s almost December 2017 as of writing. Most parents with young children knows what December means in Malaysia; school holiday. It’s a long school holiday at that and usually children will get restless if there’s not much activities are prepared to keep them occupied. Personally, I have always brought my son for various outdoor and eco activities during school holidays, but if you are looking for something that’s less strenuos but still fun to do with you children, you might want to consider going uphill to Resorts World Genting.

Cool and pleasant weather aside, there’s tonnes of things you can do in Resorts World Genting during the long school holidays, but here’s picking out the main highlight that you and your children can enjoy together;

*Adventures of the Monkey King: The Golden-Hooped Rod

*Travel Around The World with Snoopy

Adventures of the Monkey King: The Golden-Hooped Rod

image

The Monkey King is a mythological figure in Journey to the West, one of the most popular classical novels in China.

image

Resorts World Genting has brought Nanjing Acrobatic Troupe with their magical 3D theatre performance, Adventures of the Monkey King: The Golden Hooped Rod. The show is rather new, starting only in 2016. This theatrical production that will no doubt remind its viewers about the beauty of live theatre and culture, is another example of how the eternal battle between good and evil never gets old as a storyline. Performed by talents from all over China specializing in acrobatic performances, who are also members of the National Performing Art Troupe.

image

The story begins in the event after the Monkey King has claimed the Golden-Hooped Rod from the East China Sea. It is discovered that the enemy of the rod, Chi You, has also been released, and now intends to destroy it.
image

In order to battle Chi You, the Monkey King and the rod must work together and go through Mana Practice, an exercise that enhances one’s life energy. The Monkey King manages to master the ability, but then the rod reveals its weakness, something that Chi You is also aware of. As it turns out, Chi You manages to lure the rod back to the East Coast Sea and imprison it.This, of course, leads to the ultimate battle between the Monkey King and Chi You.

image

Tickets to enjoy the show are priced at RM176 (VIP), RM136 (PS1) and RM96 (PS2). Genting Rewards Card (GRC) members enjoy 10% discount.

The 65-minute show is scheduled for 9pm daily with additional shows at 4pm, 5pm and 8pm on selected dates at GISR from 11 Nov 2017 – 01 Jan 2018

Fashion and Styling Workshop with Influencers at Resorts World Genting

My growing up years were nothing but a nightmare. I was average in my studies, scrawny and akward looking. I was terribly skinny and had no sense of style. And for that, my classmates called me ‘Lizard’. Children and teenagers can be so cruel. I hated it, but I was really young and naive and did nothing to improve how I look to stop their verbal bullying. Fast forward to my adulthood, I still did not care on how I present myself to the world until something really huge happened to me, making me realize that the world is really superficial and life is much easier and better when you look pretty. I know I sound vain, but hey, let’s admit it that’s how the world works. Being pleasant looking has it’s advantage and you can actually use it as a leverage for many things.

I’m now a believer in making good first impression and is constantly looking for a way to not only improve my looks but knowledge as well. I don’t believe in being in my comfort zone. Not anymore.

Anyway, speaking of presenting myself well and improving my knowledge, I was recently invited to participate in Fashion and Styling Workshop with Influencers at Resorts World Genting. It was a workshop jointly organized by Resorts World Genting and Sephora, Esprit and Thomas Sabo where demonstration and talks on how to dress up and whatnot is given to participants. I’ll be honest with you. I don’t really like workshops. My past experience participating in workshops are nothing but boring, but being a little vainpot, I said yes to the invitation, while keeping my finger crossed that this time around, I won’t fall asleep listening to presenter’s speech. And I’m glad I said yes to the invitation. As the workshop was definitely not boring, but really fun.

Upon arrival at Resorts World Genting,we were immediately taken to the newly opened SEPHORA boutique at Level 2 of SKYAVENUE shopping mall for a quick makeover. Yes. All participants were given a quick makeover.

image

SEPHORA is no stranger to ladies and makeup addicts. Founded by Dominique Mandonnaud in 1970 in France, SEPHORA is the leading one-stop center for those who are obsessed with beauty products. SEPHORA offers extensive range of premium quality skincare and makeup products at a very reasonable price.

image

The purpose of our visit here is to learn basic makeup and grooming techniques by using products sold in this outlet in 15 minutes. The makeup and grooming session did not only focused on ladies only, but the gentlemen as well.

image

I don’t usually walk around without wearing any makeup on my face these days, but in order to get a makeover, I was required to have a clean face for my makeup artist to work on.

image

Here’s getting a makeover at SEPHORA. I was given quick tips on how to put on makeup and stuff and to create different looks by using just basic cosmetics like lipticks and blusher.

image

Halfway done with the quickie makeover.

image

Before and after makeover. What do you think?

image

Taking my customary mirror selfie after my MUA of the day was done working on me.

image

Me and my MUA, Ai Tang.

image

I kinda like the end result. I looked much more energetic and cheerful and ready to take on anything instead of looking tired and plain.

Styling it Up at Sephora SkyAvenue, Resorts World Genting

Uploaded by K Network Media on 2017-10-29.

Check out my vlog on the makeover

image

After the quick makeover, it’s time to learn how to style it up with ESPRIT and THOMAS SABO.

image

ESPRIT is a famous fashion brand that has long been established in Malaysia. The one in SkyAvenue is newly opened and is located at Level 3 of the mall. Founded in San Francisco by Susie and Doug Tompkins, ESPRIT provides a wide selection of latest styles from top to toes for all walks of life. During the session, were given tips on how to mix and match our clothings and how to create interesting but classy looks with ESPRIT line of clothing.

image

The next presentation was from THOMAS SABO, where we were taught on how to pair accessories with our clothings. THOMAS SABO was initially developed in Germany and this jewelry brand were spread across Europe side and the United States in initial years and now, we have plenty in Malaysia too, the latest being in the newly opened SkyAvenue in Resorts World Genting.

image

Influencers were taught how to accessorize.

image

Participant donning THOMAS SABO accessories.

image

Group photo after the workshop was done. Fashion and Styling Workshop with Influencers at Resorts World Genting is definitely not boring. There’s not much nonsense babbling by presenters but more hands on for participants instead, and if anything, I believe I learned quite a few new tricks in grooming myself from this workshop alone.

Thank you Resorts World Genting for the inspirational styling workshop. It was really a great experience.

Visit www.rwgenting.com for information on current promotions and resort wide activities and happenings at Resorts World Genting.

Attractions in Sekinchan: The Wishing Tree, Pantai Redang

If you are a shutterbug and is looking for an instaworthy place in Sekinchan apart from the paddy fields, you might want to head over to Pantai Redang.

image

Not to be mistaken with the famous Redang Island in Terengganu, Pantai Redang is a hidden beach in Sekinchan with plenty of seafood restaurants around. If you visit Pantai Redang at about 7.00 pm, you may see a beautiful sunset, but Pantai Redang is not exactly popular because of the seafood restaurants or the sunset, but because of it’s Wishing Tree.

image

Those who would like to tell their fortune or have a wish to make can come and offer prayers to the deities at a small temple here at Pantai Redang.

image

A girl spotted praying at the small temple.

image

Once prayers is offerered, wishes can be made by writing on a red ribbon that’s tied to an ancient Chinese coin.

image

And wish makers will have to throw the ribbon that’s tied to the coin up onto the tree and let it dangle there for the wish to come true. It is said that the higher the ribbon with the coin dangled on the tree, the higher chance the wishes made will come true.

image

I don’t know how wishes can come ttue by making a wish this way, but it’s sure fun to see others making wishes like that. Here’s one for the album.

And here’s my travelogue for my visit to the Wishing Tree at Pantai Redang.

To get to Pantai Redang from town, turn right when you reach T-junction in Bagan. Drive all the way, you will be passing through fishing village, Jiann Chyi and Guan Hwat restaurants, a Chinese temple on your left until you see a sign with Pantai Redang, turn left. The left turn is right before a Malay eatery. Follow the road until the end and keep right. Then you will see Pantai Redang. Alternatively, just Waze it.

Attractions in Sekinchan: Ah Ma House

‘Ah Ma’ means paternal grandmother in Hokkien. Ah Ma House in Sekinchan, on the other hand is not someone’s grandmother’s house, but a specialty pastry store. The main products sold over here at Ah Ma House are traditional cakes and biscuits.

image

Apart from selling traditional cakes and cookies, Ah Ma House also sell childhood tidbits and snacks.

image

Check this out, these are the snacks and tidbits that are famous back in the 80s and 90s.

image

These tidbits and snacks are quite rare and difficult to find elsewhere these days.

image

Apart from traditional snacks and pastries, basic groceries that used to be sold back in 80s and 90s are also sold here at Ah Ma House.

image

Those who grew up in the 90s would probably remember this toy machine.

image

Spotted during my visit to Ah Ma House was an elderly worker making “Kuih Kapit” or in English, known as “Love Letters”.

image

Love letters in the making. Definitely a tedios task.

image

Freshly made “Love Letters” biscuit.

image

Love letters are packed away in the traditional way, in a tin instead of fancy packagings. Certainly bring back the memories of yesteryears where I used to indulge in “Love Letters”, one tin after another.

image

Shoppers enjoying their traditional snacks at Ah Ma House.

Shopping at Ah Ma House reminds me of my careful childhood years, with all the goodies that I used to buy and enjoy after school. Time really flies. It felt as if it was just yesterday I indulged in those snacks and now I’m already a mother myself.
