Al-Issa and the Addressing of Ummah from Arafat to Kuala Lumpur

This year, one million pilgrims are looking forward to the Day of Arafa, the day of the Great Hajj, in which millions of Muslims will be listening to the sermon on the Day of Arafa in their languages on television, and whereby His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, will address for the first time at the stage of Arafat, the podium of the Messenger of Allah and the companions as well as those who followed them in goodness from the seniors and the leading scholars of the Ummah.

Al-Issa’s sermon at the Nimrah Mosque that will be heard by a million pilgrims, is to present his scientific and advocacy effort in this immortal sermon.

And for Al-Issa to be an ambassador for the discourse of moderation extending from the pure stage of Arafat in the west to East Asia and from there to all over the world.
Sheikh Al-Issa, coming from a strong academic background on the field of Shariah, and then strengthened by high positions he assumed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, placed him as one of the shining figures of moderate Ulama and Fuqaha, not only at the level of Saudi Arabia and the Arab world, but of the world as a whole.

Sheikh Al-Issa gained, through his journeys as Minister of Justice and a member of the Council of Senior Ulama, which is considered the first fatwa reference in Saudi Arabia and many Muslims in the world, a lot of experiences besides his solid knowledge on Shariah that he received from the hands of senior Saudi Ulama, and made him combine the strength of knowledge and good skills of management, and qualified him to assume the position of Secretary-General of the Muslim World League.

Since Al-Issa gained this confidence in receiving this important and vital position, he took the League, which is based in Mecca Al-Mukarramah as its main headquarters, from its traditional framework of work to a broader and more welcoming horizon, and corrects many of the misconceptions that distorted the image of moderate Islam. Starting from its conferences in Umm Al-Qura to all parts of the world, east, west, north and south, he spreads the message of moderation and corrects a lot of misunderstandings that distorted the image of the Moderate Islam.

Sheikh Dr. Al-Issa, who, in addition to his duties as Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, also holds various positions, including the head of the Association of Muslim Ulama, and the President of the Association of Islamic Universities.

He also leads an Enlightening Project launched by the Kingdom for the world that aims to correct misunderstandings and present the true image of Islam that calls for coexistence, and put first dialogue as a means to perpetuate these understandings.

Dr. Muhammad Al-Issa emerged as an international official in charge of an international organization that handles issues of dialogue, coexistence and tolerance between religions, and between peoples and nationalities. The League and its affiliated organizations work on issues of dialogue, spreading moderation, humanitarian relief, and managing dialogue in global forums.
Sheikh Al-Issa, with his wisdom and foresight, realized the value of East Asia, the most important depth of the Islamic world, with its countries characterized by large populations and modern progress at all levels, and their peoples’ inclination towards moderate discourse and the exclusion of extremism and terrorism.
In fact, there have been several forums, conferences and symposia in this regard that had produced a positive and great impact, and perhaps the most important of them was the Forum: “Youth of Southeast Asia” that was called for by His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Al-Issa, and then came out with important recommendations to enhance the role of youth in representing the tolerance of Islam and spreading Islam.
The role of the League was not limited to forums and dialogue conferences only, but extended to documenting Islamic history in the east of the yellow continent through the signing of the Muslim World League and the Biography of the Prophet Foundation in the Republic of Indonesia, an agreement to launch museums and exhibitions of the Prophet’s biography and Islamic civilization in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, as the first station of these museums that the League will adopt worldwide.
Perhaps among the latest contributions of the Muslim World League under the leadership of the venerable scholar Al-Issa is the Forum of Ulama of Southeast Asian, which was hosted by the Kingdom of Malaysia under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Bin Yaqoub, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Malaysia.
His Excellency Dr. Al-Issa’s speech came to confirm that this meeting is exceptional and extraordinary as it brought together Ulama, in countries that have importance and weight in the map of our Islamic world and the world at large, “which are the Southeast Asian countries.”
This important meeting was distinguished by the fact that it was in Malaysia, which, according to everyone’s testimony, is a model of harmony between all its religious and ethnic components.
This meeting will be a good opening for a permanent council whose Ulama meet from time to time under the global umbrella of the Islamic peoples, which is the Muslim World League, where its headquarters is in Mecca al-Mukarramah, under the patronage of the League.

One of the most important outcomes of this international conference was the approval of His Excellency the Prime Minister, Mr. Dato Seri Ismail Sabri bin Yaqoub, to establish this council in Kuala Lumpur, to sponsor it, and to open it for its first session next year.

The statement of the Kuala Lumpur Conference summarizes the policy of the League in the era of Al-Issa, which is based on the fact that human relations and human unity are based on innate human principles and love of security, peace, justice and equality.
And that all human beings must know that differences between them in terms of color, custom, belief, culture or religion are not a cause for differences and conflicts. Because we are all brothers in humanity and we like to play a role to maintain security and coexist peacefully in this world.
This is in fact a legitimate demand and one of the purposes of Sharia that must be supported and acted upon by all parts of the Islamic Ummah. The starting point of the discourse from Mecca to the Asian East was a sign of its value as an Islamic depth and a strategic starting point for a moderate discourse that fights fanaticism as well as extremism and establishes the values of coexistence, peace and love.

Southeast Asian Ulama Conference 2022

Prime Minister of Malaysia and Secretary General of the World Muslim League
Opening the “Southeast Asian Ulama Conference” event in Sunway Resort Ballroom, Bandar Sunway,Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 30th June 2022.

The conference appreciated the Malaysian Prime Minister’s approval to establish the Southeast Asian Ulama Council in Kuala Lumpur under the umbrella of the World Muslim League.

PM Malaysia: I am proud that Malaysia was chosen to host this conference by the Muslim World League. This is certainly an acknowledgment of our country, and highlights Islam as a religion of harmony, security and prosperity.

Al Issa: We find similarities between religions that guarantee the achievement of national harmony and unity for all, and human brotherhood.

Al Issa: The Muslim World League is always happy to support any conference that brings together the Ulama Muslim

Malaysian Minister of Religion: Islam calls for tolerance and coexistence with non-Muslims and safeguarding their rights

President of the United Nations General Assembly: Let’s use this platform to strengthen solidarity in our society and to root out the forces that undermine that solidarity

The Capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, witnessed the “Southeast Asian Ulama Conference”, which was officiated by His Excellency the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaqoub, and His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, Secretary General of the Muslim World League, with the participation of His Excellency Senator Dato’ Haji Idris bin Haji Ahmed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office for Religious Affairs, and 44 religious leaders and figures from 17 countries. The conference appreciated the Malaysian Prime Minister’s approval to establish the Southeast Asian Ulama Council in Kuala Lumpur under the umbrella of the World Muslim League.

The conference also recommended that the unity of the ummah must be based on the principle of tolerance and good interaction among human beings as instructed by Islam. The participants emphasized on confronting and rejecting extremism, and endeavoured to instil the principles of love and compassion in human hearts regardless of religion and races.

The participants also recommended that the principles of tolerance and respect for the rights of others should be a priority to achieve global peace and security, while emphasizing that future peace and security plans should be developed by the nation’s leaders based on general Maqashid Shari’ah in order to build a country full of security, peace, progress, and unity, just as the Qur’an has called for in His Almighty word: “Baldatun Thayyibatun wa Rabbun Ghafuur”. The conference also recommended that Fiqh of Coexistence, which known as the fiqh of life, must be the basis for the agenda of every country to build a new future based on complete unity and harmony among all people of the nation.

The conference participants also recommended strengthening the unity of the ummah by adhering to the aqidah of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaa’ah to ensure that Islamic teachings reach the community in the right way and approach. The conference also stressed that the differences that occur among Muslims must be stopped, and Muslims must play a more effective role and commit to Islamic brotherhood and solidarity with each other to build the ‘Khairu Ummah’.
The conference opened with a speech by His Excellency the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Bin Yaqoub, in which he thanked the Department of Islamic Affairs Malaysia and the Muslim World League for holding this conference under the syi’ar “The Unity”, saying: “I am proud that Malaysia was chosen to host this conference by the Muslim World League. This is certainly an acknowledgment of our country, and highlights Islam as a religion of harmony, security and prosperity in a multi-ethnic and multi-religious manner. Representatives from abroad, especially the Muslim scholars, attend this conference. So I welcome all of you.”

His Excellency the Prime Minister conveyed that the holding of this conference took place at a time when Muslims are still facing various challenges, including differences among themselves, provocations from some parties, hatred of Islam or thoughts that endanger Islam, and in my opinion a solution must be found for that. That obviously requires the commitment and cooperation of all parties to maintain the purity of Islam and the solidarity of the Muslim ummah.

His Excellency the Prime Minister stressed the need for all Muslim Ulama to discuss, agree, unite and mobilize their ideas to reach solutions to the challenges facing Muslims around the world.

In closing, His Excellency the Prime Minister said: “We are knitting and strengthening the unity with bonds of love and tolerance as one nation, and it has started with the spirit and strength that unites us today. My great hope is that all Muslim Ulama can find common ground to play an effective role towards unity and forming a khairu ummah.”

After that, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, Secretary General of the Muslim World League, delivered a speech in which he said: “We are all delighted today by this extraordinary gathering that brings together Ulama, in countries that have importance and weight on the map of our Islamic world and the world in general, namely the countries of Southeast Asia.

His Excellency emphasized that the diversity of humans and their differences, especially their religion, is a divine destiny determined by the wisdom of the Creator, as stated in His word: walau syā`allāhu laja’alakum ummataw wāḥidataw wa lākil liyabluwakum fī mā ātākum (If Allah wills , He would have made you one people (only), but Allah wants to test you against the bounty He has given you). So as long as religious and ethnic differences are universal problems that cannot be eliminated, then at least what everyone should do to ensure a “safe and just” coexistence is to prevent differences from turning into hatred and hostility towards others, then targeting them with exclusion and deprivation of their rights to decent life.

Dr. Al-Issa explained that we find similarities between religions that guarantee the achievement of national harmony and unity for all, and human brotherhood. And religion (actually) is not a call for division (both in the national level and humanity), but the religion of Islam “specifically” welcomes peace, and makes peace sentences in the worship of a Muslim and his social

interactions, promising His servants heaven as a place full of peace, and He Almighty Allah also refers to Himself as the Most Peaceful Essence, and says of the enemies who fight with the words, “wa in janaḥụ lis-salmi fajnaḥ lahā” (But if they are inclined towards peace, then accept it). This is the reality of Islam, and not as faked by extremists and terrorists.
His Excellency pointed out that Islamic law can only be taken from Ulama Rabbani who inherited beneficial knowledge from their Prophet, our Prophet Muhammad PBUH, (just like the Ulama at this noble gathering). Emphasizing that the truth of Islam is not taken from an ignorant person, or from someone who goes down the path of extremism, violates Islamic guidelines in terms of convenience and does good to everyone, or who chooses to carry an ideology with goals that are contrary to Islam, such as a person who reduces this great and comprehensive religion to a narrow political goal. Just as Islam was not taken from the intent and purpose of falsifying facts, nor from people who hastily accepted religion from a single source and wrong perception, or who deliberately misled.

Dr. Al-Issa gave an example that among these misperceptions is the generalization of mistakes by some people who are affiliated with Islam so that they are considered as representations of religion, as has been reminded in the Charter of Makkah Al-Mukarramah, which was signed by more than 1,200 muftis and ulama (under the protection of the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud) May Allah protect him.

His Excellency stressed that the gathering of Ulama Muslim at one and the same level is an urgent need to address major issues, and because Southeast Asian Ulama have become an important association close to issues in general. That is why this historic conference was held in the capital city of peace, harmony and moderation, Kuala Lumpur. This is in addition to the geographical proximity to all, which also has an impact on a number of shar’i legal issues, where fatwas and legal decisions differ according to time, place and conditions.

Sheikh Al-Issa said: “We are pleased that this conference is a good start for a permanent assembly whose Ulama will meet from time to time under the global umbrella of Muslims, the World Muslim League, whose headquarter is the mecca that unites us all, and the Muslim World League is always happy to support any conference that brings together the voices of the Muslim Ulama, especially on the main issues of this ummah. I am also Happy with the approval of His Excellency Prime Minister Dato Seri Ismail Sabri bin Yaqoub, to establish this Assembly in Kuala Lumpur and to sponsor and open it for its first session next year, Insyaa Allah.

His Excellency concluded his speech by thanking everyone who contributed to this conference by praying for it, participating in its activities or directly sponsoring it, especially to the Malaysian government led by His Excellency the Prime Minister, who has shown all what is worthy of appreciation.

Furthermore, the Minister of Religious Affairs, Senator Dato Haji Idris bin Haji Ahmed, explained that Malaysia is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country, and is known internationally as a harmonious and safe country, and diversity in traditional and cultural life is not something new today, but rather something that has been passed down for a long time from previous generations, where every race, ethnicity and whole society cooperate with one another and enjoy equal freedom to practice religious and cultural beliefs in a peaceful and secure environment.

He also noted that Islam calls for tolerance and coexistence with non-Muslims and safeguarding their rights. Therefore, harmony between different races and religions must exist in every country.

At the end of his remarks, Senator Idris expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the World Muslim League for choosing Malaysia as a strategic partner to organize the conference, which was held for the first time in Southeast Asia, to show the solidarity of Islamic unity.
Meanwhile the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Mr Abdullah Shahid, thanked the Muslim World League and the Malaysian government for hosting this conference, and their continued efforts to advance the true values of Islam. Humility, tolerance, empathy and cooperation among our people are the same Islamic values this conference seeks to promote and spread in this difficult time, where the world is witnessing deep trauma that we have not seen for generations.
Mr. Shahid also explained that “the world is currently facing the impact of the conflict with (Covid 19) and the climate crisis. So it is these values that will unite us and help our people to increase their strength. Let us use this platform to strengthen solidarity in our society and to root out forces that undermine such solidarity, such as the forces of religious extremism and violence that have no place in the laws of our society, and the realization that this vision requires the collective efforts of all of us, including religious, intellectual and civil society leaders.”

Unveiling of McDonald’s Fries Crosswalk at McDonald’s Bukit Bintang

McDonald’s, or rather, more fondly known among the locals in Malaysia as Mekdi has been a big part of our lives, and I’m here today at McDonald’s Bukit Bintang, the very first McDonald’s restaurant that opened its doors in Malaysia 40 years ago. Yes, Mekdi has been around for 40 years in Malaysia, people. And I remember my happy memories with ‘Mekdi’ from my growing years to my adulthood. I had birthday parties in McDonald’s.Whenever people talked about McDonald’s, I would remember celebrating my birthdays with friends, my first date ever with my husband when we just started dating, late night study sessions right before college’s final and even our son’s birthday were celebrated at ‘Mekdi’. McDonald’s is definitely not just my regular restaurant where I get a quick meal, but it’s a place where fond memories are made.

Here’s yours truly at McDonald’s Bukit Bintang and I’m excited to share with you the unveiling of the iconic McDonald’s Fries crosswalk.

The crosswalk was officially unveiled on 15 March by YB Dato’ Seri Dr. Shahidan Bin Kassim, Minister of Federal Territories, as well as YBhg. Dato’ Azmir Jaafar, Managing Director and Local Operating Partner of McDonald’s Malaysia, at McDonald’s Bukit Bintang.

The crosswalk is located at the heart of the city. What makes this even more special is that this crosswalk is located right in front of the McDonald’s Bukit Bintang restaurant – the very place that’s dubbed as the Malaysia version of Shibuya crossing.

Yours truly at the McDonald’s French Fries crosswalk. In all honesty, the crosswalk is really insta-worthy.

Curious why the McDonald’s French Fries was chosen as the icon? When eating the McDonald’s French Fries here in Malaysia we all know how creative we Malaysians can get when it comes to food. How many of you like to pour your fries on a tray and create a mountain of fries to share with friends? Or dip your fries in your sundae for that sweet and savoury treat? These are the joys of having our iconic French Fries – it tastes great but also evokes a sense of joy and fun with family and friends.

“We are confident that this crosswalk will add to the beauty of Kuala Lumpur and make it a must-see destination for tourists from all over the world. And with the announcement of the Malaysian borders reopening on 1 April, we hope that tourists visiting KL will not only shop at the Golden Triangle, but also experience feel-good moments at McDonald’s Bukit Bintang and take photos of our Fries crosswalk. With this new iconic crosswalk, we are extending our support to the Ministry of Federal Territories and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) in enhancing its socio- economic development initiatives to make Kuala Lumpur a more prosperous city by 2030.” Melati Abdul Hai, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of McDonald’s Malaysia said when asked about the McDonald’s aspiration for the iconic McDonald’s Fries Crosswalk.

McDonald’s remains committed to contributing to the nation’s economic recovery, as it announced its five-year business expansion plans earlier this month. As part of its Vision 2026, McDonald’s Malaysia will be investing RM1.35 billion over the next five years to open 205 new restaurants, as well as offering more than 50,000 career opportunities for Malaysians by the year 2026.

McDonald’s French Fries not only tastes good but it also brings people together and creates feel-good moments, so it’s no surprise that McDonald’s fries continues to be one of the most popular items on their menu. It’s called the world-famous fries for a reason and is enjoyed by millions of people every day around the globe.

If you’re ever in Bukit Bintang and happened to see the iconic McDonald’s Fries crosswalk, do experience how it’s like crossing over. Take some pictures, videos and maybe some TikToks, and have some ‘I’m lovin it’ good time at our beloved Mekdi.

My PADI Advanced Open Water Course Experience

When I passed my Open Water Diver certification back in 2020, I was immediately offered to take up Advanced Open Water Diver license. My classmates were all excited for it and they immediately signed up and proceed with the course, just right after they were certified as an Open Water Diver. But I wasn’t so keen. Unlike them, I was concerned for many things. First of all, I did my Open Water course when I was on an island trip. Time was a constraint. Second was the budget for the fees and last but not least, I wasn’t sure if I was really ready to dive deeper and go for Advanced Open Water.

Just a few confined water dives in the pool and a mere few skill performing dives in the open water and you wanna go further and deeper in the sea? You got to be kidding me! Although I’m quite a confident woman, my confidence wasn’t that great when it comes to diving. When I just passed my Open Water Diver course, I wasn’t really confident in the water yet. I was still scared and my diving skills was just so-so and worst of all, my buoyancy and whatnot was still crappy. Instead of jumping the bandwagon like everyone else, I decided to wait. I wanted to get more experience in diving and log more dives before I take up the Advanced Open Water course.

It’s tough being a scuba diver, actually. This fact is especially true during the pandemic era. When I obtained my Open Water Diver licence it was already during Covid19 pandemic era, and going for more dives is really difficult. My country executed nationwide lockdown and traveling to other states is made impossible. We were banned for certain period of time and tourism attractions were forced to close their doors to tourists. I couldn’t travel to my preferred dive sites; eg: beautiful tropical islands to dive and increase my diving skills experience. Living in Kuala Lumpur makes it worst as there are no pretty dive sites nearby.

But I like diving. I wanted to dive despite of the lockdown restrictions, and so, I decided to go for freshwater diving in lakes nearby Klang Valley so that I can gain more experience.

Read up my lake diving experience here:

Yups, I’m a huge advocate of being more confident in the water and mastering your skills first before signing up for ‘license upgrade’. Apart from that, I’m all for diving with instructors that I can trust my life with. So after logging more dives my guide, (now instructor) asked me if I would like to sign up for Advanced Open Water and upgrade my skills. This time around I said yes. By the time I decided to sign up for this I’ve logged more than 20 dives. I’ve grown more confident and comfortable in the eater and I was itching to challenge myself. I was ready to do deeper dives, and even night dives.

This is my instructor from I-Divers. Muhamad Arif, whom I fondly called Abang Arif (Habang Ostat).

All geared up and ready for my Advanced Open Water Course

There are a few things that you need to know about Advanced Open Water Course. First, you are expected to know all the basics. And unlike the Open Water course, Advance Open Water course is designed to help you upgrade your skills as well as your max depth. As an Open Water Diver, you are only allowed to go to a maximum of 18 meters. But as an Advanced Open Water Diver, you are allowed to dive up to 30 meters max. Apart from that, you’ll also be allowed to dive at night with your buddy.

There are no written exams for this course, but manuals will be given and you’re expected to do some knowledge reviews with your instructors.

The PADI Advanced Open Diver’s syllabus that my instructor designed for me includes:

-Deep diving
-Night and limited visibility
-Peak performance buoyancy
-Navigation
-Search and recovery

You’re required to do 2 pool sessions (at instructor’s discretion. This can also be done in the open water) and 2 open water dives. Generally this takes about 1-2 days to complete.

Here’s sharing with you my experience during my PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course.

Our instructor teaching us how to use the compass

Learning to navigate on land first before we jump into the pool and do it again underwater. I was taught how to set my bearings and navigate in repricopal line. Apart from that we were also taught how to use the compass to mark patterns under the water to ease our directions. It was confusing at first but now I can navigate better with my compass.

Happy faces. These are my classmates for the day.

Time for pool session. Our pool session took place at Pusat Akuatik Darul Ehsan (PADE) at Shah Alam, Selangor. The pool’s max depth was 5m deep, perfect for training dives.

Class in session with my fellow dive buddies

Peak performance buoyancy. We’re taught everything about weighting, trimming, and extensively on how to control our buoyancy in this session.

Yours truly performing hovering skills.

Peak performance buoyancy. Hovering with my classmates with Jalur Gemilang by the end of the session.

Search and recovery session requires you to search for objects that has been dropped in the water. We were taught multiple search patterns during this session.

Open water session in the lake- Deep dive. We dive up to 22m deep during this session.

Getting ready for night dive&limited visibility

Although I’m quite familiar with this particular dive spot, this is the first time I dive at night over here.

It’s totally a different environment. It’s abit intimidating, but at the same time, I can feel the thrill.

But all is well, and I managed to performed all skills to my instructor’s satisfaction and I was finally certified as an Advanced Open Water Diver. Yay to that. I can now legally dive deeper and go for night diving with my buddies.

Special thanks to my instructor Abang Arif aka Habang Ostat. Thank you for being part of my diving journey and thank you for making the educational experience a happy one.

Anak Datuk K, Asyraf Berubah Disebabkan Azizan Osman

Anak Datuk K iaitu Asyraf Khalid dulunya bukan seperti sekarang.

Pendedahan Ketika Majlis Makan Malam Sempena Sambutan Hari Jadi Datuk K

Hanya ambil masa 3 tahun, kejayaan datang bertubi-tubi. Syukur sekali, segala perspektif kehidupan menjadi bertambah baik buat Asyraf Khalid.

Kata-Kata Luahan Dari Asyraf Khalid

Hidup Berubah Sejak Ada Mentor

Kata Luahan Dari Datuk K Mengenai Azizan Osman

“Azizan memimpin tangan mereka semua, tunjuk mereka mana longkang, mana tempat nak kena langkah, mana tempat nak kena lompat, awak semua (rakan usahawan jutawan) sangat beruntung. Saya tak dapat ini semua ketika seusia anda dan masa memulakan perniagaan,” jelas Datuk K lagi.  Contoh terdekat adalah anaknya sendiri. Kerana itulah beliau benar-benar teruja dan berterima kasih kepada Datuk Wira.

Kata Datuk K lagi,

Tahniah Diucapkan!
