SnowWorld Springtime Wonderland in Resorts World Genting

I don’t celebrate Easter, but I do love all the fun that comes with it. You know, the Easter bunnies, Easter eggs hunt and whatnot. It’s a great excuse for you to spend time with your family, especially the little ones. The scorching hot sun is definitely not my best friend so hunting for Easter eggs in the field while having a picnic is a no no for me. I have no doubt that my boys will agree with me too, but hunting for Easter eggs in -5′ Celsius is another story altogether.

The Snow World Springtime Wonderland which is organized as part of the Genting International Children’s Festival offers loads of egg-tra fun activities and my family and I had the privilege to join in the fun. Standard temperature in there: -5’Celcius. Very cold. And I love it.

There’s plenty of Easter eggs for us to hunt in SnowWorld, Resorts World Genting.

It’s really cold in Snow World but that doesn’t deter us from having fun.

Many eggs-citing fun activities including arts and crafts are in store. Kids are welcomed to join the egg-venture Hunt to search for the hidden “eggs” or test their skills at Eggs Rolling for a unique experience. Guests may also want to take the challenge presented by Eggs-cellent Memory Match. It’s definitely cool and fun while building one’s memory and memorizing skills. No less exciting is Eggs-citing Arts & Crafts, children get to learn to make unique using their creativity and imagination.

Those going to SnowWorld on 25-27 Maech, there is a chance for you to win 2d 1n stay at World Largest Hotel, First World Hotel. All you have to do is guess the number of eggs in the jar and submit your answer to Resort World Genting Facebook or Instagram with a photo of yourself and the Eggs Jar and remember to put hash tag #SWGuessTheEggs. 3 lucky winners with the answer will be selected and result will be announced in their Facebook.

Sea The World at First World Plaza, Resorts World Genting

Under the sea
Under the sea
Darling it’s better
Down where it’s wetter
Take it from me
Up on the shore they work all day
Out in the sun they slave away
While we devotin’
Full time to floatin’
Under the sea

Sounds familiar? Well, those who grew up in the 90s will most probably know how to sing along to this catchy song. It’s the soundtrack for The Little Mermaid produced by Disney, a huge hit back then. The Little Mermaid was, and still is one of my favourite Disney movie. It tells the story of a mermaid Princess who fell in love with a human Prince.

Reminiscing my childhood, I believed that the mermaid kingdom under the sea is real and always fantasize about being a mermaid myself. But of course, as I grew up I realized that they are merely something Disney made up and never thought of the undersea kingdom ever since.

Little did I know that a visit to Resorts World Genting somehow granted my whimsical wish to visit the under the sea kingdom. Well, almost. It’s the closest thing I get to the under the sea kingdom, ‘Sea The World’.

Like King Triton’s Kingdom, it’s a make believe world, of course. But the shopping stuff is definitely real.

One Night with Aaron Crow

I spent a night with a dark and handsome magician. Well, all right. That’s rather scandalous and exaggerating. I didn’t spend a night in the arms of a dark and handsome magician but I did spent a night watching a tall and handsome magician perform in Resorts World Genting.

He is none other than Aaron Crow, a silent mentalist whose performance aimed to help you overcome you deepest, darkest fear in his show ‘Aaron Crow, Fearless! Cheating Death Nightly’.

 photo IMG_0261_zpsth7wmsg1.jpg

Aaron Crow’s “Fearless!” is definitely a must watch when you’re up in Resorts World Genting as he will without a doubt transport you into a parallel universe of magic, suspense, risky stunts and mystery which will leave you at the edge of your seats and wanting for more.

Hence, here’s a little on his show. His show, “Fearless!” is a show with the positive theme of facing and overcoming our fears.

Aaron’s most popular acts are “Supravision” which is likely to be the most spectacular blindfold act in the world, “Bowman” which is an unseen combination of bravery and love that might bring a tear to the eye and “The Final Bullet” in which Aaron Crow attempts to catch a signed bullet shot at 300 Bar from a paintball machine gun. His routines are highly original and authentic and are performed with utter silence from him and to some spine-tingling and eerie music.

Balloon Exhibition at Genting International Children’s Festival 2016

I never liked clowns and balloons. They scares me. Balloons especially as they scare me whenever they go pop.

 photo IMG_1935_zpsrh0c9k4k.jpg

But I couldn’t resist going for the balloon exhibition at Resorts World Genting during the recent Genting Children’s International Festival 2016.

 photo IMG_1928_zps4a0mmfz1.jpg

They had this balloon exhibition in a carnival like atmosphere.

 photo IMG_1924_zpsn1htpwvw.jpg

It’s open to public and offered free entry for both parents and children alike. There’s plenty of interesting balloon sculptures and not to mention balloon pool for children to play in.

 photo IMG_1939_zpsrrk3o1gd.jpg

The highlight of the balloon exhibition is definitely this, the giant 20ft tall monkey balloon sculpture.

Scared of balloons, well yes. I had to admit that I’m abit squeamish around them, but seeing my son had so much fun there was worth all my trauma.

Genting International Children’s Festival 2016

 photo 1_zpsiutzhccl.jpg

Nearly 100 children from two Selangor homes were invited as part of the special guests at the official launch of Genting Children’s Festival at First World Plaza last weekend.

 photo 6_zpsjsdloffs.jpg

Gracing the event was YB Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, Deputy Minister of Women, Children & Community Development. With her was Miss Katherine Chew, Vice President of Resort Communications and Public Relations of Genting Malaysia Berhad. After the officials the launch was made successful with balloons sculptures, clowns and mob dances – D8 dances who made a spectacular entrance at the stage.  The guests were later taken to the Universal Walk at First World Plaza and were greeted by Old Master Q and friends plus loads of clowns.

 photo 3_zpsvvb7n1ds.jpg

Before entering the balloon festival site, the award-winning Cheer Aces from Subang Jaya gave an adrenalin performance that attracted many visitors to gather and watched the 10 minutes performance.

 photo 9_zps1wvmldrf.jpg

At the balloon festival site, the main highlight namely the 20-foot tall giant balloon in a shape of a monkey was an awesome sight.  The giant balloon structure is located at the centre of the Universal Walk and is said to be one of the biggest balloon ever made or seen in Malaysia. Besides the giant Monkey, other eye-catching and colourful balloon structures depicting animals are lions, elephants, hippopotamus and many more were also there to make excellent selfie and photo opportunities for visitors.

 photo 8_zps2ejlwl1l.jpg

After the balloons, clowns and cheerleaders, the children together with Datin Paduka Chew adjourned to the SnowWorld for more eggs-tra fun activities.  This includes arts and craft plus Egg-venture Hunt to search for the hidden “eggs”.

 photo 7_zps2cdmrfjw.jpg

There were also aplenty ‘pastel-coloured eggs’ for selfies and photo opportunities. The event ended with a sumptuous meal for the guests at the newly opened The Food Factory special edition of school holidays and Genting International Children’s Festival High Tea.

For holiday makers, be sure to visit Resorts World Genting and the Genting International Children’s Festival from now until 20 March 2016. The Genting International Children’s Festival is a memorable carnival parade with clowns entertaining the kids and a live Clown Comedy Show.  There are also performances by 15 award winning cheerleaders and a great show of balloons at the Time Square.  Not forgetting Old Master Q and friends are lending a festive atmosphere here at the event with daily live shows at 12pm, 5.30pm and 8pm at the Times Square. Behind The Scene at Food Factory’s Machinery

In my previous post, I’ve written about my dining experience with my husband and son in the Food Factory, Resorts World Genting.

Like I mentioned in that post, Food Factory, located at 3rd floor in First World Plaza at Resorts World Genting is offering sumptuous treats for hi-tea as it’s school holiday special, in conjunction of Genting International Children’s Festival 2016.

What I did not mentioned in that post is that Food Factory is actually a food factory. Yes. Literally and figuratively a food factory, as suggested by it’s name. Most of the food there are freshly cooked and produced by using machines, and here’s giving you a peek on how some delicacies are produced in the kitchen of the Food Factory, enabling it to cater up to 1,300 diners at one time.

Here’s a little exclusive with Sous Chef of Food Factory, Chef Murugan who have been kind enough to show us how how some things worked around the kitchen.

The restaurant has a few giant cooking utensil, and here’s showing the pancakr machine and the giant fried rice/noodle machine.

Chef Murugan&The Pancakes Machine

 photo IMG_1785_zpsdun01scw.jpg

Here’s Chef Murugan, showing us how pancakes are made here in Food Factory. It’s all produced by machine.

Perfectly cooked pancakes. Standard in size and tastes really good too.

 photo IMG_1812_zpsrk5tzabs_edit_1458732725111_zpsj6pkdun4.jpg

According to Chef Murugan, the machine made it possible to serve up pancakes for 2,000 at one time. The pancake machine can flip up to 200 pieces of pancakes in approximately 30 minutes. Definitely cost saving and resourceful, I must say.

Moving forward, here’s Chef Murugan showing us the noodle/fried rice machine.

 photo IMG_1839_zpsu5miifuy.jpg

It is not easy to produce fried noodles for 2,000 people daily. To make life easier for everyone, the kitchen staff, especially, the Food Factory uses a state of art machine to fry up fried rice/noodles.

 photo IMG_1851_zpsqhdtcsjg.jpg

Here’s Chef Murugan showing us how fried noodles are cooked in this large machine to cater to a large crowd at each service session.

 photo IMG_1890_zpsk53lk7bu.jpg

Here’s Chef Murugan, with the large amount of noodles ready to be served at the buffet counter for diner’s gastronomic pleasure.

The concept in Food Factory is certainly an interesting one. Having the food churned out by these machines certainly puts on an interesting show to diners who dined there, especially young children. Guests at Food Factory will certainly enjoy watching food being cooked while enjoying the wide array of food offered at the Food Factory.

Do make a run to Food Factory should you be in Resorts World Genting this March 2016. Food Factory usually caters to breakfasts only but they are currently offering a special High Tea Buffet as a school holiday special and available only from 12th to 20th March 2016 and 26th to 27th March from 1pm to 5pm.

March 2016 School Holiday Ideas: Hi- Tea at Food Factory, Genting Highlands

Looking for a place to chill? Why not chill in style and have a cuppa or two and more at 6,000ft above sea level?

 photo IMG_1908_zpsvpcfccs8.jpg

Food Factory, located at 3rd floor in First World Plaza at Resorts World Genting is offering sumptuous treats for hi-tea as it’s school holiday special, in conjunction of Genting International Children’s Festival 2016.The best part about all of this? It’s buffet and all you can eat style instead of ala carte. The high tea buffet offers great variety of food in separate counters; Western, East Asian, West Asian, Western Delights and of course Pastries as well as Desserts. Beverages are free flow as well.

Here’s what you can expect from food factory during their school holiday special Hi Tea Buffet:

Their buffet menu is on rotation basis, and as usual, since it’s buffet style and we can’t possibly eat everything they offer, so here’s sharing with you what I think is worth the calories. This is what we had, a bit of everything from the buffet spread.

 photo IMG_1733_zpsernuq90s.jpg

For starters, we decided to go with something light and easy on the tummy: Cheese and crackers. While the cheese is not something gourmet and merely the ordinary cream cheese, it is proven to be something good to start our hi tea session with.

 photo IMG_1758_zpsya3ol0uv.jpg

Approaching the Salad Bar, we assembled some of our own Fruit Salad, consisting of Granny Smith’s apple slices and lettuce with cherry tomatoes. Granted, there were nothing elaborated but the vegetables and the fruits at the counter were all crisps and fresh, making everything cheerfully palatable.

 photo IMG_1722_zpsdj8qxyas.jpg

Pizza slices. Not very heavy on the toppings, with just bits of mushrooms and chicken hams and lightly topped with mozzarella cheese , but they are definitely a favourite among children that day.

 photo IMG_1760_zps90qsstzx.jpg

Mini Chicken Burger was another favourite among children. They came in cute three-bite size and was perfectly stacked. My son loves this very much and we ended up having seconds.

 photo IMG_1728_zpss9uunwdx.jpg

Spaghetti Bolognese from the pasta counter was not too bad. Pasta was al-dante and the sauce was nicely flavoured.

 photo IMG_1740_zpsayusyqow.jpg

Grilled Stingray and Squid from the action counter. I did not take these but my husband did and he assured me that it was fresh and adeptly grilled.

 photo IMG_1746_zpsqpg4xd2f.jpg

Fried Chee Cheong Fun is one thing that you wouldn’t want to miss should you patronize the Food Factory. This delicacy can be found at the Chinese Food counter and is uniquely prepared, I must say. Chee Cheong Fun is a Chinese delicacy usually prepared plain and with sweet and spicy sauce on the side and is never fried. This is definitely an innovation and the best part? It tastes great.

 photo IMG_1737_zpsz2k6xxfc.jpg

Roti Benggali with a side of chicken rendang was simply lovely. I’d recommend this for those who prefers something local and nostalgic for hi tea. I could still remember the 3pm treats my mother would serve me after school in my youth. It’s exactly like this; thick toasted bread with a side of curry or rendang dip.

 photo IMG_1755_zpsdeu8xprp.jpg

Pastry Platter, something I assembled from the pastry counter. There’s an extensive selection of pastries, but in the end I decided to keep it simple and just go for the chicken pie, apple pie and the all time local favourite, fried banana.

 photo IMG_1769_zpsmp39u1r5.jpg

Assorted sandwiches. Again, nothing elaborate but designed to keep your tummy filled up and comfy.

 photo IMG_1775_zpsrvkxrn3g.jpg

Traditional Chinese Chicken Soup was absolutely soothing and comforting. A must have if you spot this at the buffet spread.

 photo IMG_1763_zpsdpglnqii.jpg

Assorted Dimsum from the Chinese food counter. Not that many selection but enough to keep you satisfied. There’s steamed buns, prawn rolls and of course, siew mai.

 photo IMG_1725_zpsolpece3s.jpg

Yam Rolls is one of the highlights from the Chinese food counter. I did not have these as I’m allergic to yam, but seeing it being polished by my boys, I think it is safe to say that these are delicious too.

 photo IMG_1764_zpss4aqhpba.jpg

Pancakes drizzled with maple syrup. The pancakes was fluffy and buttery as pancakes should be and a must try if you would like something sweet for tea.

 photo IMG_1773_zpsdlppxohi.jpg

We finished off our meal on a sweet note with gummy jellies and lollipops, which surely give us a bit of sugar rush afterwards.

Overall our dining experience at Food Factory was very pleasant and the kitchen staff were all helpful too. Dirty plates from our table were cleared at timely manner for our dining pleasure. Apart from the fabulous food selection, we were also treated to live preparation of food using machines. More about behind the scenes in the kitchen at the Food Factory in the next post, but in the meantime, do make a run to Food Factory should you be in Resorts World Genting this March 2016.

The High Tea Buffet is a school holiday special and available from 12th to 20th March 2016 and 26th to 27th March from 1pm to 5pm only.

Training Tips for Runners

photo Participants of the Spartan Race hydrating with Lucozade Sport 2_zps1qoiflzh.jpg

Whether you’re new to running and obstacle course races or you’re a seasoned racer, training and nutrition are essential. With the right training, run and recovery plan, you stand a better chance of finishing your race and feeling great after. A training plan helps you improve your fitness level, track your progress and minimise the risk of injury, so don’t neglect this important preparatory stage.

Motivation
Here are four simple ways to stay motivated and stick to your training plan:
Change things up – Vary your training route; new sights and trails keep things interesting.
Track your progress – A diary or record of milestones is great encouragement when motivation is lagging.
Know your goals – Keep in mind your original goal or objective for running the race.
Visualise success – Overcome doubts with a positive attitude and visualising success.

Nutrition
On average, you should consume 2 litres of water per day, but your individual needs may differ as some people perspire more. Stay hydrated by drinking small amounts of water or sports drinks like Lucozade Sport™ before, throughout and after training to prevent dehydration.

A balanced and nutritional diet with the right carbohydrates helps to fuel your training while protein helps to build, maintain and repair muscle tissue. Carbohydrates are your main source of energy; you can take a high-carb meal like 4 slices of toast with jam and a banana, or 200g of baked beans on a jacket potato three or four hours before exercise.

Good sources of protein include lean meat, eggs, fish, nuts and yogurt; take 15-20g of protein together with carbohydrates within an hour of finishing your exercise session to improve your recovery. Try two boiled eggs, 200g yoghurt or 100g almonds.

Rule Your Run
You may have been training for months but what you do the day before and on the morning of your race still plays an important role in your performance.

In addition to getting an early night, make sure you eat well the night before, with carbohydrate-rich foods like pasta, rice, bread and potatoes to help provide fuel for your run. To start the day right, good options include porridge, toast, cereal, bagels and fruit juice. Overall, a good rule of thumb is to stick with familiar foods which you’ve been taking during training.

Dehydration can have a negative impact on your performance; even a 2% reduction in your body weight has been shown to negatively impact performance. Don’t neglect drinking before the race – keep a bottle of drink with you – little and often is key.

photo Participants of the Spartan Race hydrating with Lucozade Sport 5_zpsuvepiywf.jpg

During a long race, the stores of carbohydrates in your body will get used up. To maintain consistent energy levels, aim to refuel with 30-60g of carbohydrates every hour with sports drinks, gels or energy bars – this would be equivalent to 1-2 Lucozade Sport™ bottles each hour of your race.

To help your body recover from the stresses of the race, carbohydrate-electrolyte drinks carbohydrates and protein help to replenish your body’s need for hydration and healing. Top that up with 20g of high quality protein (meat, fish or dairy) to help support muscle growth and strength.

Lastly, remember to combine post-race rest with stretching and light activity. So go ahead, go out there and #RuleYourRun!
