GOssip for a cause, Go-Celebrate

GOssip banner

I don’t usually attend events, unless it’s really for a good cause…because I’m pretty much of a crowd hater, and huge and noisy crowds never failed to give me horrible headaches. I actually almost missed the GOssip- GO Celebrate, because earlier, I was on a few days business trip in Malacca.

But being a woman myself I did not want to miss an event that celebrate women all around the world for their roles and contribution in the modern society, so I made a mad rush back home to freshen up and drove like a madwoman to SS15 Subang to attend the event and do some coverage for it.

For those who have been under some coconut shells, GOssip is an event to honour women that was split into 3 section which is Go Away, Go Safe and Go Celebrate. I didn’t manage to be present during Go Away and Go Safe that concentrate on violence against women as well as the importance of safe sex as I was not in town which I regret pretty much.

And so, after taking a few bad turns and almost getting lost in the area that I am not familiar with, I finally arrived at the event location and looked for one of the event coordinator from Summer Sands, sponsor and concept owner for GOssip event, Michelle who promised me VIP pass so that I can do coverage for the event.

I was more than ecstatic to report on that particular event, as it’s goal is not only to educate people on how to respect women and stuff, but their sales on merchandises as well ticket for the Go Celebrate Unity Concert which involve 20 performing artiste would be channeled to selected charity bodies related to women.

When I arrived, it was around 5pm, so it’s not crowded yet, and I manage to steal some of the crew and volunteer’s picture as they busied themselves preparing for the grand finale of the event, Go Celebrate Unity Concert. U-jean whose blog is in my blogroll was a volunteer over there, but I can’t put her picture here because it’s too blur. I also had the opportunity to talk to Vern, the GOssip designer who is responsible for designing their official T-shirts. I was really amazed with their ability to multi-task and rush around the Asia Cafe compound and still look good and energetic after a few hours. Talk about adrenaline. They must be pretty high on it.

Asia Cafe was GOssip official venue sponsor. Even though Asia Cafe compound is not that huge, but I would have dropped dead in exhaustion if I were to be put in their shoes.

One thing about Malaysian is that they really love to enjoy and have fun, but when asked to donate for charity or for a good cause, it’s kinda hard for them to do so. As I observed the crew running around on Asia Cafe compound, I notice that as they approach the public for donation for those charity bodies that they’re representing, it’s very hard for them to persuade the public to give donation. When they’re given freebies, they are fast to snatch away whatever they are given, but most are rather reluctant when asked to donate.

I guess GOssip organizer really made a smart move by making the concert a highlight of the whole event, because the ticket sales for the concert are sold like hot cakes. I bought 3 tickets costing Rm5 each too, as the tickets sales would go to charity, but gave it away as I already have VIP pass that will allow me to go anywhere I want, including backstage and front seat during the concert. I kept one as a souvenir, though.

And then, there’s the backstage crew and their sound system control panel. I watched them work in a rather relaxed and professional way. They must have tonnes of experience handling sound systems for event such as this one. I observed them with amusement, and I discovered that way much later, during the concert, that these group of people at the side of the stage have excellent quality of work as the sound system for the concert was superb, and hardly have any noise or interference that can make you cringe. Even the artiste that performed over there sounded greater than usual as they sang live on stage. I salute the sound engineers who made all this possible.

The deejay and the sound engineer were actually shy kind of people, and they were practically blushing when I flash around with my camera, snapping their picture. Sensing their awkwardness, I belatedly asked their permission to get their picture in action, and they had graciously allowed me to do so. I actually feel bad for distracting them from their work, but I really can’t help it. I love seeing people who actually made an event successful. Credit should be given where it’s due. It’s not just the celebrity who should be hailed as idols or heroes for making a concert possible. The sound crews should be given credit too. Without them, the concert will not be made possible. Below are the picture of the deejay and the sound engineer at work.

And then there’s the concert. One hour before the concert, the venue was actually empty, and I wondered if the concert would actually still go on. There’s no sight of fans or performers are around. And the weather was quite cloudy and windy, and silently, I feared that the concert would be canceled or unsuccessful if it rains. But my fears are unfounded, as about ten minutes before the concert started, the performers started to arrive and the crowd started to grow. Well, I guess, Malaysians are indeed last minute kind of people.

When the concert finally commences at 8pm, it was ground shaking. The place was crowded with shouting and clapping fans who gave support to the idols and performers.

Below are the some of the artiste who performed in the concert to show their support for the charity event.

Despite of the glitch that the GOssip team have to go through at earlier stage, where they could not obtain permit for some of their roadshow (Blame the paranoid authorities for that. These days, the authorities seems to think that whatsoever event is related to demonstration against the government) as well as the official merchandiser was forced to deal with faulty T-shirts as a result of the mistake that the printing company had conveniently made, the event was actually very successful, especially Go Celebrate that emphasize celebration in life.

I also would like to congratulate them for their genius idea of letting the emcees sending message about respecting women, safe sex, violence against women and many more educational information throughout the concert . I feel that they definitely convey the message to the crowds by doing so. After all, Malaysians are famous for paying attention to events that involves celebrities and entertainments.

Cleffairy: Remember to practice safe sex, say no to violence against women as well as celebrate your life by living to the fullest.

Vern, hihi. It was a pleasure to meet you in person too. LOL. I believe that i failed to properly introduce myself. I think i only introduce myself as Cleffairy. Well, actually, my real name is Elizabeth. Ohh, yeah… I took the liberty to use that picture. πŸ˜€ I hope you don’t mind.

Old habits are die hard.
