Guess what, people? The internationally acclaimed singer, songwriter, musician and actor John Legend is coming to Malaysia and he will be bringing his Darkness and Light World tour to Resorts World Genting on the 17th March 2018.

Taste of Darul Makmur, Hogoh Pahang! Food Festival at Coffee Terrace, Resorts World Genting

I’m a true blue Penangite at heart, and I used to only prefer food that’s strictly from the Northern states of Malaysia, eg: Penang, Kedah and Perlis. I love my Assam Laksa, my Pasembor, my Nasi Kandar mamak and the list goes on.

But my preference changed once I pursued my tertiary education when I was seventeen in Kuala Lumpur. Being picky and having just delicacies from the Nortern states is just not an option and I started to explore what other states have to offer when it comes to food.

As time goes by, I got quite adventurous and I can proudly say that I not only love Northern Malaysia delicacies, but the East Malaysia and the East Coast’s delicacies as well. Ever since I left my parents’ home, I’ve become quite a foodie and one of my favourite past time is indulging in food at food festival.

And speaking of food festival, I’ve recently had the opportunity to attend one, at 6,000feet above sea level no less in Coffee Terrace, Resorts World Genting.

Coffee Terrace is currently having Taste of Darul Makmur, Hogoh Pahang! Food Festival in conjunction with MOTAC’s Visit Pahang 2017 campaign. This is where you can find nothing but authentic Pahang delicacies.

Yours truly and Chef Rosidi Ahmad. According to Chef Rosidi Ahmad, the delicacies offered at the taste of Darul Makmur, Hogoh Pahang! Food Festival are not only authentic, but some delicacies are delicacies that’s used to be exclusively served in the palaces of Pahang as well.

In other words, some of these lovely dishes are royal dishes and used to be eaten only by the royal families of Pahang.

As the food festival is in the form of buffet, I couldn’t possible have a taste of everything in one sitting, but here’s highlighting some of the dishes that I think you need to try should you hop over to Coffee Terrace.

Keropok Ikan

Sata. Sata is a savoury dish made from spiced fish paste and wrapped in banana leaves before being cooked on a grill.

Kerabu and Ulam-Ulaman. Also must try, the assorted sambals, especially Sambal Hitam. There’s no picture of Sambal Hitam here, but if you do spot it at the buffet, by all means, take some and pair with piping hot rice, bread or porridge. They’re to die for.

Kambing Bakar and Air Asam at the carving station is a not to be missed too.

Beef and Chicken Satay for satay lovers.

Laksa Pahang is not the kind of laksa I’m familar with. Unlike Penang Laksa that’s spicy and sourish, Laksa Pahang is much richer and creamier. Definitely comforting on the palate.

Sup Rusuk will surely warm and comfort your tummy, especially in the cold weathers of Genting.

Patin Tempoyak is one of Pahang’s signature dish that’s a must try, unless of course, you are not a fan of durian or anything that contains durian, as this delicious dish is made of durian. It might be quite overwhelming on the senses to some who cannot tolerate pungeant food.

Also should not be missed are the wide array of sweet desserts.

Puding Raja is a must try. This one of the royal dishes that Chef Rosidi mentioned.

Kuih Lompat Tikam and Puding Pahang

Sira Ubi Kayu is a type of sweet dessert made from casava. Those with sweet tooth will most likely adore this dish.

Sira Labu. Similar to Sira Ubi, Sira Labu is also irresistibly sweet. It can be quite addictive, so eat sparingly if you’re watching your blood sugar level.

Apart from indulging in food, some artifacts from the Federal Museum of Pekan courtesy of Yang Berhormat Dato’ Ahmad Fard bin Abdul Jalal, Pengarah Lembaga Muzium Negeri Pahang can also be seen at Coffee Terrace during the food festival.

It felt as if it was just yesterday I celebrated Christmas with my family and friends and now, December is here again and Christmas is once again less than two weeks away as of writing. Time really passed by in a breeze. At least, to me if is for the year 2017. It just flew by and I wonder what I’ve achieved throughout the year. Anyway, musing on my achievements aside. Christmas is the time for family gathering and reunions, and of course, a time for indulging in good food.

An UnBULLievable Funtime at Quill City Mall, Kuala Lumpur

I’ve been planning to spend a fun weekend in Quill City Mall since I’ve hrard that they are having plenty of fun activities ongoing throughout the school holiday and the festive season, but I didn’t managed to do it til last weekend. It was kinda difficult dragging my feet out last Sunday as I’m not a morning person, but I’m certainly glad I did, as it was a fruitful Sunday and I had so much fun in Quill City Mall with my family.

The mall is decorated in a very interesting theme for the long school holiday and Christmas this year; UnBULLievable Christmas, in conjunction with the movie ‘Ferdinand’.

Ferdinand is a family friendly movie by Twentieth Century Fox, a movie that tells the story of a young bull who escapes from a training camp in rural Spain after his father never returns from a showdown with a matador. Adopted by a girl who lives on a farm, Ferdinand’s peaceful existence comes crashing down when the authorities return him to his former captors. With help from a wisecracking goat and three hedgehogs, the giant but gentle bovine must find a way to break free before he squares off against El Primero, the famous bullfighter who never loses. Having watched Ferdinand movie premier in Quill City Mall with my family and some underprivilege children during ‘A Day with Ferdinand’ event, I thought that the movie is filled with both humour and family values. A highly recommended movie to watch with your family this festive season.

Quill City Mall is decorated with the scenes and characters from the movie all over, making it a very nice place for some instagram shots and merry picture taking.

The small town is actually a marketplace that sells all sort of things, from Christmas cookies to toys, you name it.

I was having so much fun that I’ve forgotten to grab a bite for teatime. But it was my lucky day, I stumbled upon a good friend of mine and he treated me to some Golden Gukak.

Golden Gukak is a sort of pastry, some sort of hydbrid between a croissant and a traditional Chinese biscuit.

Looks pretty much like a bull’s horn, I must say.

Someone crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, this makes a good teatime snack. Go ahead and try em if you spot em in Quill City Mall.

Apart from the fun activities in the Concourse area at the ground floor, there’s also the 100 UnBULLievable art exhibition going on at level 4 of Quill City Mall.

The exhibition showcases thematic canvas artworks by selected college students, featuring characters from Ferdinand the movie. The exhibition will be ongoing from 1st December 2017 to 1 Jan 2018.

And here’s one of my favourite piece of artwork at the 100 UnBULLievable Art Exhibition.

My fun did not just ended at the 100 UnBULLievable Art Exhibition as my husband and I happened to participate in the dancing challenge by Aishah and Prem from Mix.fm Breakfast Show.

Familar with the brand Texas Chicken? Yes, I’m talking about the the very same chicken fast food restaurant, Texas Chicken. Well, Texas Chicken has recently added its 42nd restaurant in Malaysia at KLCC. And at the same time, debuted its Tex Café.

The seating area is spacious and comfy

But the real plus point about the café is that it offers charging ports for you to use while you enjoy your drinks and desserts. Great for those who would like to get a quick power up for their gadgets or those who needs to do some quick work over their meals.

Unlike it’s sister restaurant, Tex Café does not offer any fried chicken but instead, gourmet beverages and desserts.

A selection of muffins are also available for your enjoyment as well.

Decadent Chocolate Volcano Cakes is highly recommended to all chocolate lovers out there. These are pleasant on the palate, I assure you. The cake is not cloyingly sweet and definitely makes a good tea or coffee companion.

Another must try item on their menu is the lovely Marble Cheesecakes. Similar to the Chocolate Volcano Cakes, these are not overly sweet and pleasant on the palate.

Overall Texas Café makes a good lurking port for those who are in need of a quick bite at a very reasonable price. The best part about this cafe is that if you ever decided that hunger gets the better of you and the biscuits and cakes are not enough, you can just walk to the other side and grab a fried chicken meal or two from Texas Chicken.
