The Great Recession

I never really cared about the socio-economy and the political environment until I quit my job in a mainstream newspaper as a journalist and goes freelancing. You know, taking up writing jobs and get paid according to the projects that I decided to take.

You see, there was no need for me to really care about the economy or political stability. Back then… I was pretty dependant on the company that I worked for, and as long as they are operating, I will get paid by the end of the month. There was no need for me to worry unnecessarily about the impact of the slow economy growth and whatnot back then.

But things are different now that I decided to be a freelancer. I come to realize that my savings account is pretty much affected by whatever that’s going on out there in the world of trade, politics and economy. If any of it is in the state of disability, so does my pocket and my livelihood.

Sure, being a freelancer entitles me to all the flexibility and all the freedom that I don’t get when I was employed, but money is a huge issue when you’re freelancing. Money don’t come easy and I come to realize that freelancing can sometimes be harder than when you’re working with certain company as a permanent employee.

I find it hard to get paid for the projects that I have done, especially in the times of great recession. Some of those people who owed me would gladly run a mile or give me thousands of excuse just so that they can escape clearing their payments in time.

I really hate their lack of conscience. It’s really disheartening and frustrating when you don’t get paid in time for all of the hard work that you’ve done.

There’s not much thing I can do to fix that except for planning my personal finance properly so that my family and I I won’t end up penniless or starving by the end of each month. There’s no room for luxury and I have to save for the rainy days as some people simply have no conscience and downright selfish as they often refuse to pay for the services rendered until you issue them some not so friendly reminders.

But thinking back, such situations can’t really be helped, can it? According to the info-graphic below, the US economy is in a great recession and yet to make any bouncing back. (Do click on the graphic for a bigger version of it)

It’s a common knowledge that every part of the world is pretty much dependant on the US economy. When the US economy is terribly slowed down by the great recession, the rest of the world would follow suit; inflation would go up and cost of living would sky-rocket without any hopes of going down again and consequently, people would hold onto their money tighter and tighter. I suppose that is why it’s so hard for me to get paid for the projects that I’ve done.

I don’t know how long the economic recession will last, but I do hope that the leaders of the world would work on improving the economic situation so that the terrible recession would end soon.

Cleffairy: I’ve chosen my poison, so I suppose I have to bear with it as long as I can.

…the Serenity Prayer. Being miserbale isn’t going to make things any better – just have to live our lives the best we can and give praise and thanks to God always for whatever little blessings He may shower upon us.

Yes… I know… just sometimes I get really pissed at people who refused to pay for the services that they have taken from me. Made me wonder if they think that I don’t need to eat?

I’m not that horrible, you know…I can accept it if people apologize and tell me if they can’t afford to pay me in time and ask if they could delay payments and stuff…but not giving me excuses and avoiding me like a plague whenever I ask them to clear any amount due. If they tell me, at least, I can at least anticipate it and plan what I can do next.

*sigh* I suppose it can’t be helped. Nothing I can do to change that, all I can do now is work harder. As they say, when God closes a window on you, a door would be open. šŸ˜€ I hope things will be better soon.

I’m thankful to God nevertheless, though. In times of desperation, He still keeps me and my family well.

        wei..terbalik la…God closes a door..open a window la…

Ya sometimes it’s like that. When I was working, we had to go to their house or office to chase for debts.

They have money but if don’t chase then they will delay and pay whichever creditors that come knocking at their door first.

For those creditors that just call or issue warning letters, they will keep delaying by giving a million excuses.

Perhaps if more employed journalists (as you were) identified with working people, instead of aspiring to the elite, the public would be more informed and savvy, and there would be more equity in our society . . .
