Jakel Launches New Hari Raya Collections For The Whole Family

Shopping for Hari Raya can be quite crazy, but ladies and gentlemen, don’t stress out. 😉 Shopping for Hari Raya clothing for the entire family for the can be pretty fuss free if you know where to go. If you are looking for ready-made traditional clothes, you might want to drop by Jakel Mall. They have just launched their latest Raya collection for the whole family and I don’t think it will be a chore to go shopping in Jakel as they have a total of 18 Jackel stores nationwide.

Nabil Ahmad, wearing one of the Baju Melayu from his own collection. Vibrant coloured Baju Melayu with flower motifs ‘sampin’.

Raya Clothing for the whole family sold in Jakel stores nationwide. From top left: Baju Melayu Nabil, Baju Kurung Che Ta. From bottom left: Baju Melayu Upin dan Ipin and Baju Kurung Moden for little girls. These clothing are pretty much on the high end side, especially from Nabil and Che Ta’s Collection. The cloth used to make for all of these clothing are from high quality textile materials and very comfortable to wear.

 photo IMG-20150613-WA0004_zpszjcyrbng.jpg

Here, take a look at Baju Kurung Che Ta, ladies. Isn’t it lovely?

 photo IMG-20150613-WA0003_zpsc30grmkb.jpg

Baju Kurung Che Ta is of modern designs and is adorned intricately with beautiful rhinestones and semi precious stones like crystals. One would definitely stand out in the crowd if they are to wear this for Hari Raya. These definitely caught my attention and I’m definitely going to get one for myself. 😉

 photo IMG_20150613_123458_zpstftrnpmx.jpg

While the adult clothing concentrated on being fashionable, the children’s clothing from Upin and Ipin Collection is designed to not only be stylish, but comfortably fashionable and attractive to a young child’s eye too. Take a look at this blazing red Baju Melayu Upin Ipin. The Baju Melayu buttons are not the usual ones we are familiar with. They are made to look like Upin Ipin’s characters.

 photo DSCN0288_zpsfkscyp0e.jpg

I dare to bet no little boys would complain about wearing sampin with Upin Ipin character’s prints on it.

The clothing comes in exclusively cute gift box too, making them a perfect gift and souvenirs for the upcoming festive season.

Kids Day Out At Quill City Mall

I’m somewhat a self professed shopaholic. Naturally, one of my favourite past time is hanging out at the shopping mall with my son. I can stay in a shopping mall from the time they started opening their doors in the morning til their closing time at night. To say that some shopping malls is actually my second home is an understatement. :p I could actually plan an itinerary of a one day shopping mall exploration and that wouldn’t even be a joke. :p

One of my recent favourite shopping mall these days is Quill City Mall. I believe I’ve written about this mall countless of times before but in case you’ve missed it, here’s reintroducing the mall to you again. It’s a fairly new mall located in the heart of Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. One of the thing that I liked about this mall is that it is accessible directly by public transport. There is a direct monorail link to Quill City Mall located at level 2. All you need to do is hop onto the monorail and head to Medan Tuanku monorail station. Alternatively, you can stop at Bukit Nanas or take the Putraline LRT and disembark at Dang Wangi. It’s about 10 minutes walk away to Quill City Mall.

Quill City Mall is a home to many of my favourite brands and apart from being an excellent mall to hunt for groceries and delicious food, it is also a family friendly shopping destination. If you are a foodie, check out my blog post on Quill City Mall Food Trail HERE. There is a lot of fabulous food joints here in Quill City Mall. And the best part? They are all pork-free, children friendly and Muslim friendly.

Speaking of being a children friendly mall, Quill City Mall has organized a Kids’ Day Out yesterday and my son and I have been invited to join in the fun. Who am I to say no to a fun adventure with my son in the mall? What more it’s now my favourite mall. :p

 photo IMG_20150611_114358_zpsqakhks7d.jpg

A group photo of us bloggers, members of the media and a bunch of excited kids at the concourse area. We gathered at 11am and were given the itinerary of the day. Mr. C.K Ng gave us a short brief about the mall and what the mall have to offer before our little adventure commences.

Each bloggers were given an RM50 voucher, courtesy of NEXT to shop for something here and here’s what my son chose for himself; a navy coloured sailor shirt. Being a little vain pot like his mum, the boy is definitely a happier child after that little shopping trip. I got to make a mental note to get him a stylish cap and a sunglass next time we drop by. He’s been eyeing on those and he’ll look very fashionable in those, no doubt.

 photo IMG_20150611_114943_zpsa4gdvirs.jpg

 photo IMG_20150611_183404_zpsfn9cwqv9.jpg

We did not leave the outlet empty handed. 🙂 Pizza Hut Restaurant has generously handed us goodie bag containing vouchers and whatnot for us to use during our next visit. 😉 And being a fan of pizzas, I have no doubt that my next visit will be soon enough. :p

Chakri Palace Royal Thai Cuisine Ramadan Buffet 2015 at Suria KLCC

Thailand will always hold a special place in my heart. To me, it is a beautifully romantic country with plenty of mystical tale that comes alive as soon as you stepped foot in it’s land. Being a Northerner, visiting Southern Thailand is quite a norm for me and my husband whenever we go back to my hometown, mainly Satun and Hadyai. But last year, we decided to explore further and took a short birthday a.k.a anniversary trip to Songhkla, Thailand.

Songhkla is actually a very famous state in Thailand, especially among those Muslims who eloped. To cut the long story short, Songhkla is the Asian version of Las Vegas. Attractions around it includes the zoo, mosque, temples and of course, the mermaid statue by Samila beach.

My husband and I did some eat-travel-write kinda thing and discovered that Thai food is absolutely delicious, and not quite easy to find authentic ones in Kuala Lumpur. We usually get the watered down version of Thai food, but lucky us, we found Chakri Palace Royal Thai Cuisine. Located on the 4th floor of KLCC, Chakri Palace Royal Thai Cuisine serves nothing but authentic Thai cuisine.

Chakri Palace Royal Thai Cuisine has rolled out a delectable buffet spread in conjunction of Ramadan, with a good mix of local and Thai delicacies to suit everyone’s palate.

Here’s sharing with you what they have to offer in their buffet spread this coming Ramadan 2015. First let’s check out the live action stalls:

National Geographic Channels’ T.Rex Autopsy

It’s school holiday. A rather short one and since Ramadan is just around the corner and we have been busy with Ramadan food reviews, we did not exactly have a travel plan. Slightly guilt ridden, I brought my son to Petrosains.

 photo IMG_20150609_103409_zpsoedr8r4c.jpg

It’s the Dino month in Petrosains and we were invited for a special screening of National Geographic Channel’s new two-hour special, T. Rex Autopsy at TGV Cinemas @ KLCC, Kuala Lumpur. It was indeed a very educational experience for both of us. A tad too gory for me but my son loves it to bits.

 photo TrexAutopsy_006_zpsz5awa1kg.jpg

At 14 metres long, nearly two metres wide and lying lifeless in a specially constructed biology lab, the world’s first full-size, anatomically complete recreation of a Tyrannosaurus rex awaits dissection.

 photo TrexAutopsy_034_zpsbf0mw7um.jpg

In National Geographic Channel’s new two-hour special, T. rex Autopsy, four intrepid scientists get to the heart (literally) of what made this fearsome creature tick.

 photo TrexAutopsy_023_zpsdhrpzupt.jpg

This once-in-a-lifetime experiment will offer viewers an unprecedented opportunity to explore questions such as whether or not T. rex had feathers; how it fed with tiny arms; whether it was primarily a hunter or scavenger; how it digested food; how old it lived to be; how it procreated; and whether it was warm-blooded like a mammal or cold-blooded like a reptile. With eyes the size of grapefruits, 30 centimetre-long teeth and a stomach big enough to digest a four-year-old child, the recreation of the T. rex is lifelike inside and out. Using cutting-edge special effects in collaboration with esteemed veterinary surgeons, anatomists and palaeontologists, T. rex Autopsy illuminates the latest research and findings about the Tyrannosaurus rex.

In their quest to document, x-ray and scan the T. rex, the experts must cope with unexpected surprises (such as the overwhelming smell manufactured for its innards) as they saw through bone, wade through blood and slice through muscle to determine how this 65-million-year-old beast may have lived – and died.

T. rex Autopsy headlines a colossal month of dinosaur programming on the National Geographic Channel that includes the premiere of Dino Death Match, T. rex: Ultimate Survivor, Bigger Than T. rex and the two-hour special Top Ten Biggest Beasts Ever which happens every Sunday, 10pm. The adventure continues on the weekdays with more Dino programs daily at 7pm on National Geographic Channel (ASTRO Channel 553).

T.Rex Autopsy is set to premiere on June 14 at 10.00pm, National Geographic Channel (ASTRO Channel 553).

Just imagine breaking your fast by the poolside instead of a stuffy restaurant. Just the reward that you might want after a whole day fasting.

 photo IMG_0917_zpsb41jqyux.jpg

The BBQ section features satay with a choice of chicken and beef satay.

 photo IMG_0920_zpsznalfozo.jpg

Delicious chicken satay, and I was told that this is the chef’s pride and joy and definitely a must try at the buffet. The satay are to be taken with the sweet and spicy peanut sauce and a side of nasi impit as well as cucumber and onion slices on the side. I always opt for the chicken ones over the beef, but do give the beef version of the satay a try too. They are just as wonderful.

Masaala Chicken

 photo IMG_0937_zpscfm2giwj.jpg

Not really into Nasi Kandar and Indian food? Want something less complex and mild on the palate for iftar? No fret. Nasi Ayam, or chicken rice, the undoubtly an all time Malaysian favourite is also available for your dining pleasure by the poolside this coming Ramadan too.

 photo IMG_0942_zpsifyscjaw.jpg

Fragrant chicken rice. The rice is positively authentic and good. It is the no-nonsence kind and is to be taken with a healthy helping of chicken as the side dish, of course. There is two types of chicken that you can choose to have with your rice; the steamed version and the roasted version.

 photo IMG_0940_zpsrlav8lni.jpg

Roasted chicken. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and was rather greasy. No. That is not a complain. I love slightly greasy roasted chicken to go with my chicken rice. It is much more satisfying that way. Not quite healthy and quite a cholesterol fest, but hey, I’m a foodie and I only live once. :p I’m entitled to such indulgence, don’t I?

 photo IMG_0938_zpshwsvmdte.jpg

Steamed chicken. Definitely a healthier alternative in comparison to the roasted version as the roasted ones is much greasier. The health conscious would definitely approve but I won’t comment much on this as I gave this a miss in favour of the roasted version.

 photo IMG_0941_zpshdxiqxat.jpg

Chicken soup. An optional side to the plate of chicken rice.

 photo IMG_0943_zpsmgcqrqg0.jpg

Sambal, soya sauce, cucumber and garnishings for the chicken rice.

 photo IMG_0974_zpsulnsyjcr.jpg

Selera Utama consists of assorted traditional favourite that can be commonly found in a Malay kitchen.

 photo PhotoGrid_1433270980987_zpshbhzcps2.jpg

Assorted traditional curries and dishes to go with steamed white rice. In the picture is ayam lemak cili padi, rendang ayam, black pepper beef, ikan masin talang masak lemak,
panjeri nanas, paru goreng and Chinese mix vege. Apart from these, there is of all traditional Malay favourite main dishes such as ayam masak kicap, ayam masak merah, ayam percik kelantan, kari kambing, sambal udang petai, fried chicken with dried chili, daging masak halia, sweet and sour fish, kurma ayam, labu masak lemak pucuk manis, sayur campur, rendang ayam, redang daging, daging kunyit, paru goreng berlada, sotong goreng kunyit and more. There is something that will most definitely agree with you even if you don’t fancy the ones that I have tried.

 photo IMG_0944_zpseipohur9.jpg

Gerai Ulam dan Kerabu is also available and you will appreciate the fact that they are offering plenty to perk up your palate with.

 photo PhotoGrid_1433271449821_zpsfo65ciw4.jpg

Assorted sambals originating from various states in Malaysia. Sambal belacan, sambal tempoyak, sambal mangga, sambal nenas, cencaluk, and of course, budu. Spicy and pungent start to a traditional Malay fair is highly recommended. These does not disappoint.

 photo IMG_0960_zpssmbo11wl.jpg

Fresh Ulams. I’m not very good at recognizing those traditional leaf and herbs but I spotted some familar ones. Pegaga, terung, jantung pisang and petai is safely present in the buffet.

 photo IMG_0947_zpsqoj1vqyt.jpg

Ikan Pekasam Goreng Berlada. I tried this once during Lenggong Food Festival last year and it was unforgettable and I’m glad to be able to have a repeated experience this year.

 photo IMG_0954_zpsljqqcszc.jpg

Acar Rampai. Made from assorted preserved fruits, this jam-like side dish is great with plain white rice.

 photo IMG_0956_zpsrdyccg5s.jpg

Kerabu Daging was nothing short of sensational.

 photo IMG_0952_zpsp2xa30ec.jpg

Kerabu Mangga dengan Udang was a tad too spicy to my liking but I like it as they are quite generous with the fish sauce and the prawns.

 photo PhotoGrid_1433272222024_zps6cniopfe.jpg

Assorted modern and traditional kuih is available for dessert, but do keep a lookout for their bread and butter pudding. It was amazingly addictive.

 photo IMG_0973_zpsbmkalld3.jpg

And then of course after all the heavy dining done, there is local fruits to cleanse our palate with.

Personally I’m impressed with the fact that JW Marriot makes an effort to keeping our traditional Malaysian delicacies alive through these type of buffets. It is refreshing to see real Malaysian food instead of fancy international cuisine in Ramadan buffet. Dining here makes me feel like I’m breaking fast with my family and friends at home.

Reviving The Tales of Olympus with XES Signature

Remember quite some time ago I went for XES Hi Tea? I think that was somewhere in March and I was informed that XES Shoes will be releasing their new collection pretty soon? Well they finally did last May. So sorry for the late posting. Life have been really hectic and I’m almost never at home. There is so many things going on. Ushering Ramadan 2015; there is almost daily food reviews in hotels and restaurants and since it is MyFest2015 and I’m a family friendly tourism activist, I’ve been festival hopping with my family almost every weekend.

Okay, enough with my whining. XES have been both mine and my husband’s favourite shoe brand for our travels and they had just revealed their new collection and naturally, I was hyped up about it.

 photo IMG_377851531973277_zpscq8hvfnc.jpeg

Their theme this time? Greek Mythology. The Tales of Olympus. Arriving at the venue of their launching makes me feel as if I was transported directly to the ancient Greece where the Greek Gods and Goddesses are actually alive. You see, when I was a child I was quite a bookworm. Mythology was my favourite genre, and my favourite story ought to be the moon Goddess Selene and Endymion; the story of the moon goddess who fell in love with a mortal man who was then granted eternal sleep as their affair progressed. It was a rather sweet but tragic story, but I like it nevertheless.

 photo IMG_377714701561807_zpso27hvphm.jpeg

Checking out the venue, I spotted a few things that reflect the lives in Olympus being integrated in the event launching activities. Bow and arrow. Or rather, an archery competition.

 photo IMG_377893335545970_zpsikabuuqd.jpeg

Guests who hits the target actually stands a chance to win some products from XES.

Speed competition. Those who manage to tie up shoe lace in record time also wins something from XES.
