Hilton Kota Kinabalu is Making a Difference with the Launch of its Soap-Recycling Program

image

Hilton Kota Kinabalu have teamed up with the Starfish Malaysia Foundation and ECOLAB for the launch of its soap-recycling program, Making a Difference. The eco-friendly program aims to aid and empower marginalised youths in Sabah.

“We are delighted to be launching this program in line with our goals to double the investment on social impact and to reduce our carbon footprint by half in the year 2030, said Linda Pecoraro, General Manager of Hilton Kota Kinabalu.

image

In support of the local community, more than 30 team members of Hilton Kota Kinabalu handcrafted the soaps step-by-step at the launch of ‘Making a Difference program. The event was graced by Windson Chuah, Distributor Sales Manager, SEA as well as Azymie Yusof, Territory Manager of ECOLAB and Program Coordinators, Terrence and Deborah Ooi from the Starfish Malaysia Foundation. A total of 468 recycled soap bars were made by following the stringent process of sanitizing and cleaning, grinding, melting, moulding and packaging.

Hilton Kota Kinabalu will be continuously contributing to Starfish Malaysia Foundation with approximately 350 recycled soap bars a month. The soaps are to be donated to marginalised youths living in hostels provided by the Starfish Foundation for them to attend schools. The children come from poor families in the rural areas of Sabah, Borneo where local schools are not available.

Every year, a typical 400-room hotel generates 3.5 tons of solid soap waste, and these hotel soap slivers can be salvaged and turned into new soap bars. The program focuses on three core objectives  saving lives by providing access to soap to communities who need soap but have no access; to provide livelihood to the local community through recycling and reprocessing soap to help hotels reduce waste by turning used soap into something useful again.

More than 7 million children die each year from diseases such as pneumonia that can be prevented with simple and proper sanitation. Handwashing with soap is the most effective and cost efficient way, but does not come easily to the underprivileged in Sabah, Borneo. As a leading hospitality company in the world, Hilton intends to do their part by giving back to society and saving the earth.

We rely on the local community for staff so its important to us that we give back as much as we can. We are committed to making the world a better place for our communities.

To date globally, Hilton hotels across 127 countries have successfully participated in their very own Soap for Hope campaigns to recycle all guests used soap bars, and will continue to take place with all other properties around the world in committing to sending zero soap to landfills by the year 2030.

Naked Restaurant&Bar, Kuala Lumpur

So, I just got back from my camping trip in Perhentian Island and once I touched down KL,the cravings for some good old pizza instantly hit me, and I knew that I have to get some. Having heard about Naked Restaurant &Bar offering some really good pizza from fellow foodies, I knew I had to drop by and try some of their signature pizzas.

Naked Restaurant &Bar is located in Plaza Damas, Taman Sri Hartamas,Kuala Lumpur and goes by quite bold and cheeky theme and tongue in cheek menu. Naked Restaurant&Bar is divided into two sections. The ground floor is served as a bar with exciting cocktails and great music to turn your night alive, while the upper floor focuses on cozy ambience, allowing diners to sit back and enjoy their food.

Interesting deco at Naked Restaurant &Bar. Chic and classy at the same time.

Cheeky and bold statements can be found all over the place.

They provided pizza delivery services for their pizzas as well, and I was told that their delivery service will be made available on Grab Food apps too. Now, that’s what I call convenient, having your pizzas delivered not only to your home, but your current location as well.

Decided to try two of their chef’s recommended; their Naked House Pizza and their classic all time favourite Pepperoni Pizza.

Two types of pizza with a plate of hot wings on the side.

Pepperoni Pizza (RM35). Pepperoni Pizza is probably one of the most common pizza that you can find on the menu in any pizzerias. This is my all time favourite flavour whenever I’m working late and chasing datelines. Loaded with huge pepperoni slices on a thin crust pizza, the Pepperoni Pizza from Naked Restaurant&Bar is simply delicious and perfect for those who wants a fuss-free and classic flavour kind of pizza. Personally speaking, Pepperoni Pizzas are not exactly the kind of pizzas that I would want to eat in a pizzeria, I usually prefer those pizzas with fancy toppings if I dined in a restaurant. This is the kind of ultimate comfort food that I would want to have while wearing my pajamas while binging all night long on Netflix. Good thing they have delivery for this. This is definitely something you would want to include in your “favourite food for delivery” list.

Naked House Pizza (RM45). This is a more sophisticated kind of pizza. Topped with roasted vegetables, goat cheese, roasted chicken breast, pickled jalapenos, red onions, mushrooms, rosemary, whole milk mozzarella, finished with chives and aged balsamic reduction, this thin crusted pizza is great for those who have an adventurous palate. The pizza is practically an explosion of flavours.

So, which one between the two did I like better? Well, if I were to deliver my verdict, both are great but I’d lean more to the Naked House Pizza. The taste was absolutely sensational and dangerous addictive.

Hot wings(RM26). Two types of delicious chicken wings, the spicy and the non spicy. Wild and tame on a single plate. I’m quite adventurous when it comes to food and being a true blue Malaysian, the spicy one won my heart at first taste. Make sure you include this as a side if you decided to order for delivery. They make such a great companion for your pizzas.

Beef Wellington (RM75). A classic steak dish married to fluffy pastry and served with seasonal vegetables a side of fries.

This pastry+steak is something I’d die for over and over again. I kid you not. The steak that was wrapped in the puff pastry was surpassed my expectations. It’s juicy, succulent and naturally flavourful. It was done medium rare while the puff pastry was puffed up delectably with buttery hints. Highly recommended and definitely a must try.

Chocolate Fondant a dessert composed of a small chocolate cake with crunchy rind and chocolaty filling that is served hot with vanilla ice cream on top. This dessert offers a sweet surprise embedded in the heart of it and goes well with a cuppa tea or coffee.

Overall dining experience at Naked Restaurant and Bar is a pleasant one, with their unforgettable gastronomic offerings, I must say. Their food portion are really huge and great for sharing. For what it’s worth, they don’t strip your money nude and most definitely give you what you pay for.

Resorts World Genting celebrates the Mid-Autumn Festival with a Tea Party on the Moon

image

It is that special time of the year again. When families come together under the soft light of lanterns and the moon, to feast on mooncakes and contemplate the beauty and poetry of the full celestial body. The Mid-Autumn festival is a beloved time of the year, and Resorts World Genting is throwing a Tea Party on the Moon from 10 August to 16 September 2019 for the occasion. It will be a fun-filled time full of fabulous food and fantastic frolics, led off by the new Moondance animated show at the SkySymphony stage at SkyAvenue with plenty of variety of mooncakes to savor and also a spectacular performance at Times Square.

image

Hosted by Resorts World Genting at the SkyAtrium, the scene recreates the celestial setting as seen in the Moondance SkySymphony show. Under a shower of multi-coloured neon lanterns, the Party On The Moon brings together all the key elements of the Mid-Autumn Festival – bunnies, mooncakes and stars – built on a floor that has been transformed in a bright full moon.

image

Infinity lights serve as the gateway to the Moondance rocket and the Tea Party, which pulsates with a futuristic, modern gleam with a touch of whimsy through cuddly bunny and rabbit ear decorations. Seasonal treats for the Tea Party will be served across 8 booths, including the signature Resorts World Genting mooncake delights as well as delicious snacks from Grand Imperial, Overseas, Good Chen, Dragon I and Duria. It’s a joyous place for a joyous celebration, and a place where all elements of Resorts World Genting’s Mid-Autumn festival come together in one bright and beautiful venue.

“From our soaring vantage point above the clouds, the entirety of Resorts World Genting has a wonderful clear view of the moon. This is the perfect atmosphere for the Mid-Autumn festival, and we have always strived to celebrate this very important holiday in a very special way,” says Dato’ Edward Holloway, Executive Vice President of Leisure and Hospitality for Resorts World Genting. “Guests come from far and wide during this season to sample our delicious mooncakes and enjoy our themed attractions. So this year, we are thrilled to be able to send them over the moon with our spectacular visual interpretation of the traditional mooncake fable, as well as with our adorable and futuristic moon bunnies hopping around.”

For some spectacular entertainment at the SkySymphony stage, Moondance, produced over four months by the Genting Studios team in Los Angeles and Kuala Lumpur – the CG animation arm of Genting Malaysia – will transport guests of the resort to the moon and back with a visual spectacle featuring classic themes of the Mid-Autumn festival. The show, which plays out across wraparound 360-degree LED screens spread across four storeys and a state-of-the-art kinetic lighting system, starts off on Earth. In search of adventure, Genting’s Highland Heroes – Tabby the Tiger, Allie the Elephant, Joe the Orangutan, Geno the Dinosaur, Benny the Entertainer and Callie the Dragon – then board a rocket ship that takes them to the moon where they meet with a troupe of spirited Moon Bunnies. Introductions and hijinks ensue and the encounter culminates in a joyous dance party captured in full, imaginative visual splendour.

Moondance is the third CG-animated show from Genting Studios, and the second to feature Genting’s Highland Heroes. Directed by Guy Vasilovich and Executive-Produced by Daniel Regis Brown and Steven Lim Tze Siang, Moondance also features an original composition by Emmy Award-winning composer Gigi Meroni.

“Genting’s Highland Heroes were first introduced to the world in Jungle Jam, and now we are taking the characters and the party to a whole new level into outer space with Moondance,” says Daniel Regis Brown, Head of Genting Studios. “In this spectacular scene, our Heroes will meet some new furry friends and learn new dance movies through a beautiful CG-animated extravaganza. This is a true festival celebration and we look forward to seeing our guests’ reaction to Genting’s Highland Heroes in this delightful, top-quality animated adventure.”

image

But the party doesn’t just stop there. The Mid-Autumn mood goes beyond the screens to becoming a tangible part of the Genting experience. The rabbits that live on the moon according to festival folklore have descended to the mountain and are ready to sing and dance with guests. Kicking off as part of the Tea Party on the Moon is the Bunnies Show, where 5 cute Bubbly Bunnies and 5 futuristic Space Bunnies will pop up regularly on Level 2 and Level 4 of SkyAvenue for a fun-filled dance routine, before leading guests to meet up at SkyAtrium for a photo shoot and a finale Stage Show at the Times Square stage. The Bunnies Show Parade and Stage Show will take place 4 times a day (11am, 1pm, 4pm and 7pm) on selected dates between August 10 and September 16, 2019.

image

With the bunnies hopping all over the mountaintop, it creates the perfect atmosphere to sup on some indulgent mooncakes. The famed pastry chefs of Resorts Word Genting have outdone themselves this year, serving up long-standing favourites and some innovative new recipes. Available at special kiosks and restaurants across the resort will be the top five flavors from 2018 – Lotus Paste Single Yolk, Pu Er Single Yolk, Low Sugar White Lotus Paste, Golden Jade Single Yolk and Green Tea Lotus Paste. The spirit for creativity has also conjured up three fascinating new flavours for 2019: the silky White Lotus Paste with XO Jingsa, the fragrant Pandan Jade with Choco Hazelnuts and the velvety Durian Paste with Premium Durian.

Resorts World Genting’s Tea Party on the Moon Mid-Autumn celebrations kicks off on 10 August 2019 and lasts through 16 September 2019. For more information, visit www.rwgenting.com or call +603-2718 1118.

The Best of Comfort Food with Foodpanda

I like working out. My choice of workout? HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and dancing. Cardio dance to be exact. I’m no way a pro or qualified to call myself a gym junkie but working out makes me feel happy, relaxed and accomplished. However, there are times when days are simply tough where I feel kinda down and all I want to do is just slump myself on the couch, turn on Netflix and binge on my favourite series and movies all day long while gobbling down some comfort food. Food has always made me feel that eveything will be all right again, regardless of how bad the situation is.

I know this isn’t the healthiest way to de-stress, but hey,it’s nothing but a rat race and a dog eat dog world out there. I’m definitely entitled to wallow every now and then and indulge in some healing on my old faithful couch, don’t you think? I’m sure I’m not alone some of you sought comfort in food as well every now and then. I bet you even have your very own list of comfort food too. Anyway, speaking of comfort food, one of my all time favourite comfort food is pizzas. I have plenty of favourite pizzerias on my special foodie list, but if I’m binging on Netflix at home, pizza hut definitely tops the list.

Why Pizza Hut? Well, I like their thick, crusty pan pizzas that comes loaded generously with toppings and gooey cheese. Pizzas makes perfect comfort food in my opinion as they are simply filling and easy to eat at just about anywhere.

Below are some of my all time favourite pizzas from Pizza Hut:

Super Supreme Pan Pizza. I’ll usually order this whenever I want to indulge in comfort food but still want to include some veggies in it. Yes. It’s guilt speaking. My consciences sometimes calls for greens in my meals. The Super Supreme Pan Pizza comes loaded with meatloaf slices, pepperoni toppings alongside with black olives, button mushrooms, onions, pineapple chunks and bell peppers.

Triple Chicken Pizzas is my all time favourite whenever I’m feeling like a bit of a carnivore or when I’m chasing deadlines. Topped with plenty of chicken meatloaf, sausages, onions and muhrooms, the Triple Chicken Pizza practically fuel me up throughout those long working nights burning the midnight oil.

Hawaiian Supreme is something I’d order when I can’t decide having something sweet or something savoury. Topped generously with succulent chicken chunks and sweet pineapple slices, the Hawaiian supreme provides the best of both worlds. It’s sweet and savoury at the same time.

I used to call up Pizza Hut to deliver my pizzas but these days I don’t do that anymore.I hate talking on the phone to strangers, and there’s no exception when I needed to order food delivery. These days I simply use Foodpanda service instead. All I need to do is hop over to Foodpanda site via pc or mobile, login into my Foodpanda account, place and order and simply wait for them to deliver my food right to my doorsteps. Foodpanda services is really fast and they have yet to disappoint me. Orders are delivered swiftly and on timely manners. The best part? Sometimes Foodpanda offers discount coupons to be used during checkout. Value for your money. A bonus, definitely. Who wouldn’t like price cuts? I surely do.

If you have yet to check them out, I suggest you to hop over and take a look at the Foodpanda website. They not only have Pizza Hut delivery service listed on their website, but plenty other eateries and F&B establishment to choose from for your gastronomic pleasure. Now, what are you waiting for? Check them out and order away.

Utara@Armada Hotel Petaling Jaya Re-Opens with A Fresh New Look

I love food, yes, but if there’s one thing about me is that I’m really picky about them. I don’t always repeat my visit to restaurants or cafes unless they serve really delicious food. Among those that could satiate my palate is the UTARA. Formerly known as Utara Coffee House, they housed some seriously talented culinary maestros who dishes out tantalizing cuisines one after another.

After 22 years of successful operations as Utara Coffee House, the familiar restaurant in Petaling Jaya has recently undergone a major makeover that would see the restaurant being rebranded as just ‘UTARA’.

image

Its fresh new look were revealed  during it’s grand re-opening party on Monday, 5 th August 2019, dishing out signature dishes served in buffet style throughout the evening.

image

General Manager, Hoon Tai Chee said “We understand that the hospitality industry is an exciting and highly competitive business and growth is rapid. It is vital that we maintain a competitive edge. To
keep you interested, and to constantly offer new experiences, a complete massive re-do of Utara was
inevitable. REFRESHED AND RENEWED, today, we are pleased to introduce an ICON REBORN”

image

With walls knocked down to open up and increase the space, the new Utara enjoys rays of natural sunlight coming in from its full-height windows, making it look wider and spacious thus offering a more comfortable dining environment. The stylish new interior design of Utara features concrete and wood as the consistent color and material. Rose gold/brass and marble counters were added as highlights to brighten up the cool and warm colors. The openness of Utara now facilitates more visibility, mobility and communication between staff and diners. The renovation project led by Elizabeth Yap of interior design firm StudioN3m boasts two new additions to the restaurant, an open kitchen at the back of the restaurant and an open café-bar at the front. With
the open kitchen, diners become spectators as they can see their food being prepared thus allowing for
a greater sense of occasion while the open café-bar was built to serve between the restaurant and the lobby lounge. As such, service staff are able to communicate with and attend to guests in 2 different areas with ease, without compromising on service standards.

image

To say that I’m impressed with the new interior is an understatement. The fresh new look is indeed pleasant to the eye.

image

Utara is still serving their signature local cuisine such as the Nasi Lemak Utara, Roti Durian, Kari Kepala Ikan, Daging Masak Assam Pedas, Siput Sedut Masak Cili Padi and Ketam Masak Berlada. Apart from that, they have also added Vegan dishes to satisfy all Vegan diners. Definitely a great option for those who are eating clean.

image

Here’s yours truly and her family indulging in sumptuous food during Utara’s re-opening a couple of days ago.

image

One for the album with my all time favourite chef; Executive Chef Chew.

While Utara may have undergone a complete makeover and look nothing like what it previously looned like, I’m pleased to say that the restaurant still feels like home, dishing out the same old homey flavour that pleases the palate and calms the tummy.

The restaurant is opened daily from 6.30am to 12am.  For bookings and rezervation, please call 603-7954 6888  or shoot an email to:  f&[email protected]

Retro Klang 2019 Showcases Malaysian Culture in A Unique and Vibrant Way

I’m a huge fan of fun and high energy things and so, when I came across the announcement about Retro Klang on social media; an event that showcases the beauty of Malaysian culture in a unique way, I knew I had to join in the fun.

image

Retro Klang, inspired by another flashmob event known as ‘Keretapi Sarong’ is a public flash mob event organized by UPEN and Locco in conjunction with the 62th Malaysian  independence month. Officiated by Y.B. Datuk Abdul Rashid Bin Asari, Selangor State Tourism Exco, the Retro Klang event aimed to introduce tourists attractions in The Royal Town of Klang and showcase the beauty of Malaysian cultural diversity. Highlights of the Retro Klang event includes activities such as the Joget Selangor, traditional food tasting and demo, traditional games, ‘mini treasure hunt’, special train rental exhibition of Trains Tanah Melayu Berhad and many more.

image

Special train was chartered to ferry participants from KL Sentral to Klang KTM Station. What’s interesting is that the train ride was not just your daily ordinary ride as the chartered train was transformed into a space that fits the retro theme. There are a couple of coaches; The Chillex Coach, The Karaoke Coach, Business Coach and the Royal Coach.

image

A variety of fun activities were prepared for participants throughout the entire program.

image

Retro Klang participants were encouraged to dress up in Retro theme or national costume of their choice and here’s among the more interesting one; the Puteri Perak outfit. It’s definitely not something that you can see every day, I assure you.

Traditional games were prepared for the public to play.

Traditional kuih demonstration were also held during the event and being a foodie, I spent quite some time sampling delicious traditional cakes during the event.

Joining the Retro Klang flashmob event was indeed fun for me and my family and it was definitely a good way to countdown to the upcoming Malaysia Independence Day. For what it’s worth, I sure look forward to join more events like this in the future.

The 5 Best Luxury Sneaker Brands in the World Today

In this day and age, almost anything you can think of can exist in luxury form; from ready meals to bleach, there definitely isn’t a shortage of luxury items on the market! One of the items that does stand out on the market is the invention of the luxury sneaker. These once casual items have been transformed by some of the top designers in the fashion industry, which has allowed us to dress comfortably while maintaining a fancy, trendy image. Although the high streets are failing, high-end brands continue to thrive. Gucci, Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton sales continue to soar, which proves that today’s generation is happy to invest in this premium to maintain a great image and the luxury sneaker is in the middle of it all. Which one do you go for? Well, we are here to help with that.

Balenciaga

This brand has an interesting history, yet supplies us with trainers for the future. Balenciaga is almost a century old, but its innovative designs continue to shock the world. The most iconic trainer of this Spanish fashion house footwear is the oversized Triple S sneaker. They are known as the king of the chunky trainer trend.

Common Projects

Common Projects is an easy to notice brand because on the heel of these crisp, instantly recognizable sneakers is a gold foil style code stamp. Each code is unique, signifying the size, color and code of the shoe. This little detail puts this American-Italian label in the spotlight. These sneakers can be seen on the feet of celebrities, like Alexander Skarsgard and Drake.

Gucci

Gucci is considered to be one of the world’s biggest trendsetters. The most popular Gucci sneakers have to be the low-top white Ace sneakers. These either have the iconic bee that represents the brand emblems on it or a snake that sits in the green, gold and red Gucci colorway. Every Gucci shoe is versatile, matching with all kinds of outfits. Get yourself a pair at SSENSE.com if you want to see the full collection before you buy.

Jigsaw

If you enjoy rocking the smart casual look, then a pair of luxury sneakers by Jigsaw are perfect for you. This brand was founded in the 1970’s in Brighton. Jigsaw’s signature low-tops, made in Portugal from 100% leather, are modest and timeless as they boast gunmetal eyelets and a hardy rubber sole. These inexpensive kicks offer a high street price with an upmarket design.

Saint Laurent

Most people associate Saint Laurent with black leather boots and fitted leather jackets, however, this French fashion house is much more versatile than that. Saint Laurent has produced edgy, decadent trainers, that have the brand name scrawled across their classic low-top sneakers. If you want to make more of a statement, then take a look at their block panel adorned hi-tops.

When you do your research, you will realize that many top brands have their own line of fancy shoes. As you can see, some of the brands you would least expect do have some fantastic looking luxury sneakers to get your feet stuck into.
