Kungfu League Movie Review

image

So, I went to the premier of Kungfu League with my husband and son. Growing up watching movies with kungfu genre featuring legendary kungfu masters like Wong Fei Hung, Bruce Lee, Fong Sai Yuk, Ip Man and many more somehow gives me the impression that I will be watching a straight, no nonsense kungfu movie with a healthy dose of blood oozing here and there. But I ended up watching something else entirely. I’m not quite sure how to classify Kungfu League, but if I were to describe the movie without feeding you spoilers, I’d say it’s a hydbrid of action, romantic-comedy with a dose of inter-dimension time traveling sci-fi.

The movie is absolutely riveting and impossible to fall asleep while watching (I tend to fall sleep in the cinema if the movie is too boring). Storyline is fantastic. The writer must be either drunk while writing or is a genius.

The plot and scenes were beautifully stitched together and the kungfu moves were beautifully choreographed.

It was really enjoyable. I laughed all the way throughout the movie at the humourous scenes while being impressed of all the suave kungfu stances in the movie.

Out of 10 stars I’d give this a 15. My only complain is that I did not get to see enough of the kungfu masters being topless.

Highly recommended and if you grew up watching kungfu movies, especially about the lengendary kungfu master Wong Fei Hong, you’d really enjoy this.

Dining in The Clouds at High Line, Resorts World Genting

Fancy dining in the clouds? Well, here’s one place you might want to try; High Line. It’s the latest foodie attraction in Resorts World Genting for those who fancies casual alfresco dining with a stunning mountain view.

image

Located on the 4th floor in SkyAvenue at Resorts World Genting, High Line features dining venue, night entertainment hub and alfresco area all in one place. There are seven different food stalls gathering in one area, Carnivore Corner, Jon Bing, Seafood Market, Asian Heroes and Burgers & Shots where guests can mix and match the F&B options at the communal dining area.

I had a preview of High Line’s Nasi Lemak Lobster during the showcasing of gourmet food at Taste MIGF 2018 a couple of months back and I thought their signature Nasi Lemak Lobster was splendid. Since then, I have been anticipating High Line’s opening in Resorts World Genting with great interest.

image

And now that High Line finally debuted and opens it’s door to the public in Resorts World Genting I once again had the pleasure to sample more of Chef Muhamad Muhader and crew’s delicious food.

image

Here’s sharing with you some of the delicious stuff I had during my most recent visit to High Line:

image

Some of the must try from the seafood section is their Seafood in a Pail. I especially like the creamy butter flavour version of the Seafood in a Pail. It’s rich with cream without being cloying. It also enhanced the natural sweetness of the already fresh seafood.

image

Seafood in a Pail- Kam Heong flavour is for those who fancies spicy food. Unlike the butter cream version, this one will instantly perk up your tastebuds at first taste with it’s intense spiciness.

image

Among the “must try” dishes at High Line is the “Man vs Meat”. This huge platter consists of three types of meat dishes – Lamb Chop, Smoked Beef Brisket and Smoked Pulled Lamb served with sweet grilled corn. The price is just RM88 for one tray.

image

Grilled Sausage with Lamb Merquez. Lamb sausage served on a pretzel bun may look like your ordinary sausage buns or hotdogs, but there’s nothing ordinary about this one. The Grilled Sausage with Lamb Merquez is satisfyingly meaty and were bursting with flavours. The slightly chewy buns provided an interesting experience as well.

image

Peking Bing and Seafood Bing. These are crispy Shanghainese egg roll crepes served in paper cones which is filled generously with minced chicken and saucy seafood respectively. The savoury egg roll crepes are great for snacking, especially over a cup of hot tea or a glass of iced soda. These are sold as a takeaway food as well and therefore, the ‘bing’ makes a great grab and go meal if you’re in a rush somewhere.

Overall dining experience in High Line is beyond my expectations. Definitely will arrange a revisit soon to try out other items that thet have on their menu.

The Advantage of Self Hosting Your Blog

image

Are you a blogger or a website owner? Do you use free hosting or paid hosting? After surveying on my social media, I noticed that more than half of the respondents are using free hosting or free blogging/website platforms like WordPress.org or Blogger.com.

I have been blogging for more than 13 years and it comes quite a surprise to me that most bloggers and content creators that I know do not realize that by using free platforms, the blog and the account contents does not actually belongs to them at all, but belongs to the platform itself as it can be wiped out anytime without prior notice by service provider should you violate any terms and condition eg: using the blogs commercially, placing inappropriate ads, paid contents etc. I’ve seen plenty of blogs that’s been deleted or wiped out without prior notice because they have violated the terms and condition.

Here’s sharing with you the advantage of self-hosting your blog:

1. Extra security and full control over your blog/site, including in its layout,
2. Making money while blogging is easier as you are not tied up to the advertising restrictions imposed by free blogging platforms.
3. Contents will not be wiped out without notice and it actually belongs to you.
4. Space is upgradable
5. You can fully customize your blog as when you host your blog in your own hosting, you can install custom themes to brand your blog as you will have complete access to your backend files, which allows you to make any necessary code changes.
6.Using a third-party host usually costs only a few dollars per month.
7. Looks more professional as self-hosting allows you to use the domain name of your choice.
8. More searchable on search engines as you can customize your ‘search engine optimization’ (SEO)
9. Auto ping to social media can be done directly from the blog and therefore it can boost the visitors’ traffic and therefore increase the blog’s value.
10. Backup can be done easily to the cloud storage.

I opt to self host my blog(s) to allow myself the flexibility and the extra security, but self hosting can be very intimidating to first-timers. Should you need info or tips on how to start hosting your own blogs or sites, you might want to hop over HERE to help you decide.

Althea Angel’s Pick: Althea Petal Velvet Set

I haven’t been shopping much at Althea after my little birthday shopping as the haul have been keeping me well stocked with all my K-Beauty needs.

image

I wasn’t expecting anything from Althea at the moment and so I was really surprised these were suddenly sent to me to try.

image

Althea’s exclusive Petal Velvet Powder alongside with the newly released Petal Velvet Sunaway sunscreen.

image

The powder comes in 3 variant of colours to suit different tone of skin colour: Translucent, Warm Beige and Pink Lavender. Now, I’ve seen these countlessly in Althea, but I have yet to make a purchase as I’m honestly not a huge fan of loose powder. I’ve tried loose powder from plenty of well known brands but haven’t had much luck with any loose powder that I’ve tried before. They don’t really flatter me and usually turns my makeup cakey after awhile. Not only that, I felt that most of them are hard to blend evenly on my skin and pretty drying too and in all honesty, I’m really skeptical with these range of loose powder from Althea. But then again, it wouldn’t be fair to pass judgment before trying them out, and so I did.

image

Petal Velvet Powder: Translucent. At first glance, this version of Petal Velvet Powder looks like just like your ordinary baby powder. The texture is surprisingly fine. Perhaps much finer than your regular baby powder. The powder is scented, but not overly overwhelming, so I suppose I can say that I kinda like it. It helps to control the oiliness on the face while allowing the skin to breathe. But don’t expect it to provide you the coverage a regular foundation would. It does not really cover the flaws on the face.

image

Petal Velvet Powder: Warm Beige. Similar to the translucent version, only in different tone. Similar to the translucent version, this is also scented and have very fine texture. It helps to control the oiliness well while allowing the skin to breathe. But unlike the translucent version, the Warm Beige tone does somewhat cover some minor blemishes on my skin. So I guess it have everything to do with the colour. Although this too does not really provide proper coverage like a regular foundation would, it will still give you a decent coverage. If you would want to go for a no-makeup look, this would definitely be something you’d like to go with.

image

Petal Velvet Powder: Lavender Pink. Similar to the Translucent and the Warm Beige version, the texture is really fine and gives out a subtle lavender scent. Again, the powder does not provide coverage like a foundation would, but this version gives a surprising radiant glow in comparison to it’s sisters’ counterpart. In all honesty, I like this one more than the other two.

image

The new Petal Velvet Sunaway is a new addition to the Althea exclusive family.

image

Petal Velvet Sunaway comes with SPF50 and it claimed to be able to help control sebum whils maintaining skin moisture.

image

To be honest I was really surprised when I squirted the bottle. The Petal Velvet Sunaway have surprisingly watery texture with strong rosie scent and it immediately reminds me of the rose water my late grandmother used to prepare from scratch for us granddaughters. Initially, I did not know what to expect of it. Not sure if I should like it as I was expecting the Petal Velvet Sunaway to have thicker and creamy texture, but upon usage, I decided not to detest it, as it works wonder on the skin. The skin feels smoother and no white casts appears afterwards like most sunscreens. It also helps to control excess oil on the skin and this is doubtlessly something you would like to use for a long day out in the sun. The Petal Velvet Sunaway can also be used if you would like a no-makeup look as it does somewhat cover light flaws on the skin. This may not be a love at first sight for me, but it does grow on me.

image

Here’s wearing the Petal Velvet Sunaway and Petal Velvet Powder Lavender Pink with a swipe of my favourite matte lipstick. Say, I look pretty sweet, no?

Over A Cuppa Tea and Coffee with Barista Luc Jiguet at Cafés Richard SkyAvenue, Resorts World Genting

SkyAvenue, the lifestyle mall with an unprecedented variety of dining and shopping options in Resorts World Genting does not lack a coffee place for shoppers to grab a quick cuppa, but if you are looking for something international, hop over to Cafés Richard.

image

Cafés Richard provides a classy Parisian-style atmosphere where customers can experience the genuine French art of living and enjoy authentic espresso, original coffees and teas, as well as French food.

image

In a nod to the French way of life, where a café is more than a grab-and-go caffeine stop, Cafés Richard has modelled its seating areas after the ones in Paris. Divided into four zones, the 263-square-metre café can accomodate more than 120 customers. There are intimate booths for tête-à-tête conversations, alfresco for cool mountain air, wicker chairs facing out to the walkway for people-watching and banquette seating for groups of friends.

image

The most coveted seats will undoubtedly be the ones nestled within a stylized fiberglass and steel Frangipani ‘flower’ which can seat up to 34.

Shying away from some of the more conventional coffees, Cafés Richard carefully selects beans from all around the world to give customers a sense of exploration and discovery.

Top of the list at Cafés Richard is the Perle Noir, or black pearl, an exclusive Cafés Richard 100% Arabica brewed in a French-style espresso iconic of the Parisian Brasseries. Massaya, also served as an espresso, hails from Mexico and is organically cultivated.

Customers who prefer slow coffee methods such as French press, chemex, syphon or cold drip can choose from Ethiopian Moka Yirgacheffe cultivated in the birthplace of coffee, Costa Rica Tarrazu cultivated on volcanic plateaus, Sumatra “Orang Utan” whose proceeds partly go towards helping the endangered orangutans of Indonesia, as well as the rare and premium Jamaican Blue Mountain. Other than coffee, Cafés Richard also serves an extensive range of teas – black, white, green, roiboos and herbal – from India, China, Sri Lanka, South Africa and even the Alps.

With more than 2.4 million cups of Cafés Richard coffee served daily worldwide and in the cafés, bistros and restaurants from chic Saint-Germain-des-Prés, hilly Montmartre to historical Grands Boulevards, the traditional French-style coffee roaster aims to replicate the same joie de vivre at 6,000 feet above sea level at Sky Avenue, Resorts World Genting.

image

And here’s introducing Luc Jiguet, the current Outlet Manager and Brand Ambassador for Cafés Richard in Resorts World Genting. Born and raised in the French Alps, Luc Jiguet seek for trends and innovation in the hospitality industry with a focus on barista, bar, culinary, events and mixology.

image

During the most recent visit to Cafés Richard, Monsier Luc Jiguet personally attended to us as a barista and brewed us some coffee and tea in a syphon and taught us a thing or two about coffee and tea brewing.

No actual word can actually do justice to the Parisian coffee and tea affair and it is something that you must experience yourselves, so go on up to Resorts World Genting and chill over a cuppa coffee or tea over there. You’ll like it. I promise you that.

Happenings in Resorts World Genting: Genting Coffee Festival 2018

Any fans of coffee here? Here’s a quick update and a shoutout for all coffee lovers out there. I’m not much a coffee drinker. I’m more of a tea person and my blog name ‘Over A Cuppa Tea’ says it all, but over the years working around the clock, coffee has slowly been making their ways to my workstation, especially when I need to burn the midnight oil and I have been abit of a coffee addict by now. I have been made aware that my all time favourite weekend destination; Resorts World Genting is hosting the Genting Coffee Festival and I knew I’d be missing out if I did not check it out. Althea Angel’s Pick: Nature Republic Aloe Vera Gel and Mist

image

I have long heard about Nature Republic’s products. People have been raving about their Aloe Vera based products, and when I saw them being sold for such an unbelievably affordable price in Althea, I thought I’ll give them a shot.

image

Nature Republic Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel 300ml (RM13.00). I have terribly dry skin and the soothing aloe vera gel from Nature Republic does live up to my expectations and not not disappoint. The multi purpose gels are not only used as a moisturizer or as an after-sun care item, but I took it to the next level by applying them on my hair as a hair mask and using them before and after I blow dry my hair. Works really great and my hair feels much softer after every use. Apart from that, the gel can be used after shaving or waxing too. I like the fact that the gel smells really pleasant and if I were to rate this, I’d give it a five star for this and a I would definitely order this again.

image

Nature Republic Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel Mist 150ml (RM16.00). This is basically the Nature Republic’s aloe vera gel in mist version. Makes a really good companion on dry and hot days when you need to keep your skin hydrated without much hassle.

My only grouse is that I wish they sell these in smaller bottles so that I can bring them without worrying that it will take a lot of space in my handbag.

For products that is sold at such an affordable price, (I got both of the product for less than RM30) they sure packed quite a punch and gives great value for your money. If you are looking for hydrating products or an after-sun care items without spending too much, then these are highly recommended.

The mist and gel can be bought from Althea at a fairly cheaper price than other online portal. More info about it, visit HERE

Althea Angel’s Pick: Innisfree Real Fit Matte Liquid

image

I don’t really do much makeups but
I have weakness for all things that helps me to colour my lips. And so, I got myself not one but three Innisfree Real Fit Matte Liquid from Althea.

image

I always loved products from Innisfree. Not only their packaging are clean and pretty, but most of their items are made from natural ingredients from Jeju Island as well. And a bonus? They usually smell really good too. These Innisfree Real Fit Matte Liquid are no exception.

image

Innisfree Real Fit Matte Liquid 3.5g- 02 Coral Pink Double Shot (RM37.00)

image

Here’s my Coral Pink Double Shot look. The colour is not overly bright and I like how it brightens my feature with a sweet and youthful look.

image

Innisfree Real Fit Matte Liquid 3.5g- 06 Espresso Red (RM37.00)

image

Espresso Red look is the kind of colour that you would want to pick when you’re feeling bold and daring or simply want to look classy like the late Marilyn Monroe. The red tone of the lip matte is rather fierce and striking I must say.

image

Innisfree Real Fit Matte Liquid 3.5g- 09 Capuccino Pink (RM37.00)

image

And last but not least, the Capuccino Pink. The colour is quite neutral and muted in my opinion, and will pair well just about any style or look that you decide to go with. Will serve well as your daily lipstick, I reckon.

Overall I am happy with all the Innisfree Real Fit Matte Liquid that I currently have. They smell good, very easy to apply, not drying on the lips and pretty long lasting too. No re-application needed after long hours as the colour remains striking even then. My only concern is that they do leave stains easily and this is not the kind of thing you’d want to wear if you’re in a discreet relationship. They’ll leave marks for sure.

The Innisfree Real Fit Matte Liquid can be bought from Althea. More info about it, visit HERE

My K-Beauty Birthday Gifts from Althea

Birthdays are not always a big thing for me. Although there are some intimate birthday moments with friends on social media who sent me birthday greetings (probably because they were prompted to do so by Facebook reminders and whatnot) there have never been a big birthday celebrations or parties hosted by me or for me. Nobody asks me out for a birthday treat and unless I asked for it, there will be no birthday gifts from my family and my spouse either.

image

Now, I usually buy myself my own birthday gifts to commemorate the day I was born, but this year is a bit different. I received this from Althea as my birthday present.

image

These two pink boxes are courtesy of Althea Korea as I am a part of their ambassadorship program known as the Althea Angels.

image

I got to choose RM400 worth of products sold in Althea as my birthday gifts and here’s sharing with you my birthday gifts from Althea Korea, the best online K-beauty shopping portal. Here’s sharing with you my loots.

Innisfree

image

I always loved products from Innisfree. Not only their packaging are clean and pretty, but most of their items are made from natural ingredients from Jeju Island as well. And a bonus? They usually smell really good too. I got myself two types of items by Innisfree at Althea; their liquid lipstick and shampoo.

Assorted Innisfree Real Fit Matte Liquid

image

I don’t really do much makeups but
I have weakness for all things that helps me to colour my lips.

image

And so, I got myself not one but three Innisfree Real Fit Matte Liquid. And no, I don’t feel guilty for doing that.

image

Innisfree Real Fit Matte Liquid 3.5g- 02 Coral Pink Double Shot (RM37.00)

image

Innisfree Real Fit Matte Liquid 3.5g- 06 Espresso Red (RM37.00)

image

Innisfree Real Fit Matte Liquid 3.5g- 09 Capuccino Pink (RM37.00)

image

Innisfree Green Tea Mint Fresh Shampoo 300ml (RM25.00). The shampoo is gives a really refreshing and clean feel on the scalp. Highly recommended to be used during your morning shower or after a sweaty workout. It will rid of all unpleasant smell in your hair in a jiffy.

image

Innisfree Camellia Essential Shampoo 300ml (RM26.00). My favourite ‘before-sleep’ shampoo where I will usually use it to shampoo my hair after a long day at work. The scent gives me really soothing sensation that helps to lull me to sleep.

Nature Republic

image

I have long heard about Nature Republic’s products. People have been raving about their Aloe Vera based products, and so I thought I’ll give them a shot.

image

Nature Republic Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel 300ml (RM13.00). The soothing aloe vera gel from Nature Republic does live up to my expectations and not not disappoint. The multi purpose gels are used as a moisturizer or as an after-sun care item, but I took it to the next level by applying them on my hair as a hair mask. Works really great and my hair feels much softer after every use. I like the fact that the gel smells really wonderful too. Five star for this one, and a I would definitely order this again.

image

Nature Republic Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel Mist 150ml (RM16.00). This is basically the Nature Republic’s aloe vera gel in mist version. Makes a really good companion on dry and hot days when you need to keep your skin hydrated. My only grouse is that I wish they sell these in smaller bottles so that I can bring them without worrying that it will take a lot of space in my handbag.

image

Nature Republic Argan Essential Deep Care Shampoo 300ml (RM38.00). I have yet to try this shampoo, so I can’t really comment much about it. But I did took a sniff, and it smell pleasant enough and I can’t wait for my regular shampoo to finish so that I can finally use this without guilt.

Laneige

image

I ran out of BB cream, and so I thought I’d give the BB Cushion from Laneige a try. Laneige BB Cushion Pore Control 30g 2IN1 Beige (RM118). At first glance, the product would seems a little on the pricey side, but trust me, it’s really worth it. Not only it comes with a refill, but it gives a good coverage as well. This is all you need if you want to look flawlessly beautiful like a Hallyu star without spending much efforts.

Cleansing Tissues

I can’t live without cleansing tissues. And after scouring Althea for some cleansing tissues, I decided to grab the cleansing tissue from Prreti.

image

Prreti Perfect Clean Cleansing Tissues 30pcs (RM5.00). Comes really cheap at just RM5.00 per pack of 30 pcs. Works really well too. It helps me to scrub off my makeup really well and gives me the clean and refreshing feel after each usage.

Facial Mask

image

I thought of pampering my face a little and so, I decided to grab some mask. I bought em on a whim, though as their packaging says “Don’t Worry”. I know, I know. Of all the things. But hey, I need to worry less and I think this will serve a good reminder as I use them.

image

YET Don’t Worry Mask 23ml- Nutrition (RM2.00). Picked this one because it claimed that it will help to nourish the skin. Yet to use it so I can’t comment much.

image

YET Don’t Worry Mask 23ml- Wrinkle (RM2.00). Picked this one simply because it says that it will help to reduce fine line and wrinkles. No lady wants wrinkles on her face, so I’m sold. Yet to use it though, so I can’t say much about this either.

Etude House

I’ve was a loyal Etude House user until the nearest Etude House outlet near my place was closed down. And so when I saw them listed in Althea, I decided to check them out.

image

My Beauty Tool Lovely Etti Standing Hair Brush (RM23.00). I spotted this really lovely hair brush from Etude House and it was a love at first sight. Comes with a mirror attached and doubles as a vanity mirror if you place it standing. Not only it helps to detangle your hair but makes a really lovely gifts for girls of all age too. I absolutely love this, and will definitely treasure this piece of hair brush.

In all, I am really happy with my birthday haul. I’ll be reviewing my hauls individually soon, so keep your eyes peeled for it. Til then, goodbye for now. And oh, don’t forget to hop over to Althea to check out what’s new there.

PS: Thank you so much for the birthday gifts you sent me, Althea. You have no idea how much this means to me.
