Editor’s Pick: Recommended Dishes at Sango Restaurant, Petaling Jaya

I’m very picky when it comes to Japanese food. But when I found a place that serves really good ones, nothing will stand in my way to keep going back there.

image

Sango Japanese Restaurant in Petaling Jaya is one of those Japanese restaurant that serves outstanding Japanese cuisine, and as of writing, it’s my third time patronizing the restaurant. I’ve written about my visits HERE and HERE. You might want to read about them.

image

During my previous visits, I’ve tried some of their Donburi and their selection of Wagyu dishes. Taking a look on their menu on my third visit, I come to realized that I haven’t tried plenty of things on their menu. So here’s sharing with you more of the things that they have to offer that I would definitely recommend to you.

image

Shabu Shabu is among one of a must order item over here in Sango. The Shabu Shabu set comes with fresh vegetables, lamb slices, beef slices and chicken slices.

image

This is a set package for 2-4 pax, but for small eaters, it’s good for 5-6 pax. Highly recommended for those who wants to enjoy good food while having a good chat with each other.

image

Wagyu Tobanyaki This dish features seared wagyu meat and vegetabe on ceramic plates.

image

You may do all the searing yourselves, but be careful not to overcook the meat to retain the juiciness of the meat. Just sear both sides til medium rare and they’re all good for your enjoyment.

image

Asari Butteryaki. These clams are sauteed with butter and garlic. Fresh and flavourful, these clams are rather addictive on the palate.

image

Caterpillar Maki is a sushi roll with a twist. Topped with ripened avacado, this sushi rolls is pretty much refreshing. Highly recommended for those who wants something different than the usual sushi rolls.

image

Dragon Maki is topped with thick, perfectly flavoured unagi slices. The umami of this dish is highly satisfying, especially if you are a fan of unagi.

image

Seafood Teppanyaki Fried Rice is just a simple dish, a typical bowl of fried rice with some fresh seafood embedded in it, but in all honesty, the fried rice makes a good comfort food. Simplicity and comfort in a bowl, certainly.

image

Yaki Gyoza makes both good appetizer or a simple snack.

image

Sango Bento portion is satisfyingly huge. This rice mealbox isrecommended for those who wants a bit of everything in their meal.

image

Beef Teriyaki set is a not to be missed if you’re a fan of beef. The flavourful beef is perfectly done in teriyaki sauce and sinking my teeth onto these delightful cutlets of beef is not something I can easily forget.

image

Sake Chancha set. Now, Sango is not only a heaven for meat eaters, but also a paradise for fish lovers as well. All soaked up in a special sweet and savoury broth, this Salmon fish dish is meant to be eaten with the accompanying bowl of rice. The portion is quite huge and there might be some leftovers of the dish when you try to polish it off. You might be in wants of another bowl of rice to finish off the rest of the Salmon, so feel free to order additional bowl of rice to go with it if need be.

image

Ika Ichayaboshi is simply grilled squid. I did not manage to touch this dish as it was polished off before I could even get a slice of it onto my plate. I will refrain from commenting about it but I guess it must be really delicious to be gone within seconds like that.

The Best of Selangor’s Well Kept Secrets

Beyond its reputation as the most developed state of Malaysia, Selangor has its share of beautiful destinations, marked by its tin-mining roots, existing natural attractions and over 100 years of history. Here are some spots in Selangor which are worth exploring.

Island Villages of Port Klang

image

Pulau Ketam remains a popular weekend getaway thanks to its picturesque house on stilts, fish farm, fresh seafood and eagle feeding activities. For a glimpse of an authentic fishing village, hop on the next boat to Kampung Sungai Lima and be guided by the village head instead.

Royal Town, Sleepy Towns

image

Klang is one of Malaysia’s oldest towns, dating back to the 15th century. To discover fascinating stories of the Royal Town, join a free walking tour that runs daily. For somewhere relaxing, why not visit some lesser known towns? There is Batang Kali, famous for hot springs, orchids, guava, and loh mee. About 20 minutes away lies the mysterious Kuala Kubu Bharu, where its temples are cradled by folklore. It is also close to the refreshing Sungai Chiling.

Natural Beauty at Kuala Selangor

image

Within Kuala Selangor, there is Melawati Hill, a historical landmark and home to silvered leaf monkeys. From here, head to Sasaran Beach, where the seasonal sky mirror phenomenon occurs. Likewise, witness the paddy fields of Sekinchan in all its glory or hang out by the vibrant Redang Beach. Later at night, watch fireflies light up at Kampung Kuantan.

Adventures in Selangor

image

If you have already gone up the 272 steps to the cave temple of Batu Caves, try something different like rock climbing along the limestone walls, or spelunking in the caves. Adventurous souls may prefer paragliding over Bukit Jugra, or rafting with friends along Selangor River. Avid cyclists can even join a cycling tour to the mangrove swamps and quiet villages of Kampung Sungai Janggut.

Hidden Communities

image

The Mah Meri is an ancient aboriginal tribe with their own beliefs and traditions. You can take part in interactive workshops at their Cultural Village on Pulau Carey, or their secret ancestral village at Pantai Jengkok. In Sungai Buloh, there is also the Valley of Hope, an almost-forgotten leper community where few residents and unspoken stories remain.

512 Studio Theme Photoshoot: Japan Sakura

For those who knew me since 5 years back, you would probably know that I used to be someone who just worked behind the scenes. I lay low and never exactly made myself known. I used to be camera shy to the point that hide away from it whenever it is pointed towards me, but these days, not anymore. I have come to realize that regardless of how I try to guard my privacy, people will still hunt me down, and since I’m no longer given privilege for privacy, I decided to just revel in all the glamour or unglamourous things that exposing myself has to offer. After all, life is an adventure and what’s abit of danger?

As I’ve reiterate earlier, I worked behind the scene most of the time although I am no longer anonymous. I’m a writer, and occassionally a photographer as well. Being a foodie and traveler, I take photos of food and my travels mostly, and of course, I do coverage for events and news. I write okay (I hope), and I am a mediocre photographer who aspire to be a good one.

I’ve worked with plenty of photographers. Behind the lense as a photographer myself, and in front of the lense as a model. I am 33 years old as of writing. I have done quite a few modeling job since I turned 30. At first it was just for fun and something I enjoyed, but I come to realize that you can learn quite a few things as a model, something you don’t really get to learn when you are behind the lense. As a photographer, I am in charge of the scene and the situation before me, but as a model, I have to relinguish control and listen to instructions and assert patience, something that is really difficult for me as I’m usually in charge of things, not the other way around.

A question. What makes a great photographer? I used to think that a good photographer is someone who take wonderful pictures or someone who captures beautiful portraits. And on a personal level, I aspire to produce perfect pictures myself. But after being a model myself, I come to realize that a good photographer is easy to come by but great one who not only captures the essense of their subjects well but treat them with respect and compassion as well is really hard to come by.

I’ve had misfortune of working with nasty photographers who lacks patience and tells me off about the way I pose and I should do better next time even when I am not their model. But lucky me, my most recent modeling experience at 512 Studio during Sakura Theme Photoshoot was a rather pleasant one. Aside from Adam, my husband who is also a photographer, I’ve had privilege to work with Dylan Yap and How. Both are not just good phorographer, but great ones. They are not only creative and versatile in directing but very patient, kind and considerate as well. I would work with them again in a heartbeat, given the opportunity.

Here’s sharing with you their masterpieces:

Dylan has captured the feminine side of me. Not an easy feat as I’m not exactly someone who is all graceful. I can do fierce, and occassionally cute, yes. But never these kind of pose that’s full of gentleness. He made me feel and look like a Hime-sama, or in English, a Japanese Princess both during and after the photoshoot. Dylan Yap is easy to work with and if you are looking for a photographer who produce romantic pictures, then he is the one you should look for.

As a Photographer, How has captured me as an enigma and someone mysterious. He is not afraid of breaking the norm and is very creative in directing his model. He is someone you might want to look for should you want to shoot something that is out of the box and if you are not afraid of being challenged to do something new.

When it comes to posing, I’m of course more comfortable with Adam, as our relationship is not just a photographer and a model but husband and wife. However, as comfortable as I am posing for him, he is a tough taskmaster and quite a challenge to work with. Regardless, if I were to comment on his work, I’d say he sometimes prefers peculiar, not your usual portrait shooting kinda thing. Here, he captured me as a warrior beneath the surface of a gentle woman. And I think I quite like the outcome of the photos that he took during our Sakura photoshoot session at 512 Studio.

All of these photos are very individual. Each photpgraphers have their own style of capturing the picture of their subject and their own way of working. I certainly learned alot from this session. Hopefully, this will not be the last session with all three of them.

All of these pictures were taken at 512 Studio. They have plenty of themes studio themes for rent. Should you are interested in renting the studio for photoshoot or videoshoot whatsover, please contact 512 Studio HERE for the rental rates and information.

Ps: My makeup was done by Ms.Osa Lim. If you think I look good in all these pictures, please compliment Ms.Osa and all my photographers. They worked really hard to make me look pretty.

5 Easy Ways to Select Your Party Wear

Choosing a dress for a party is a daunting task. Considering the different styles and choices which are available in the market, one might find it a challenge to select a dress which would fit the occasion. Traditionally, dresses and other clothing could be found only on the departmental stores. With the advent of modern technology and high usage of internet, it is possible to access the same dresses online. There exist a lot of online sellers, who are ready to expose their products all over the world. The buyers can easily select what they want at the comfort of their sofa, and get the delivery instant. With such services available, it becomes a bit challenging to decide the right choice. Formality of the occasion is the major factor of consideration when it comes to choosing the right choice of a party dress. With that information in the mind, it is therefore advisable to rank your priorities against the kind of party to be held. Stuck to make the decision on the right dress to choose for the party? Relax, Bargain Hunter’s blog will sort you with clear information on what you need to take into consideration. Here are the five tips to guide you on how to choose your party wear.

Dress Code of the Occasion

Formality of the occasion is the primary factor of consideration. Before settling on any wear, it is paramount to understand the kind of occasion you wish to attend. For men, their dressing is a bit rigid. Females have flexible dressing that can be altered to suit the party. The most important thing that you should understand is that formal parties deserves some level of respect. This is whereby the ladies wear have to go beyond the knees, to show some respect. This is the issue of morals which cannot be ignored at any level. However, if the party comprises of age mates, who have closeness of interactions, the choice can be arrived at depending on what they agree on. Men have least complications because any wear can do well with them. A formal party is attended with suits while non-formal gathering can be done with t-shirts and jeans. The color and fabric are also dependent on the type of occasion being attended.

Dress Style and Body Shape

Once body shape is another element of consideration. Before purchasing any wear, it is advisable to know your body shape, which assist in selecting the best. Otherwise, you might end up choosing what is not good for you. This is done in order to accentuate one’s body feature. Five types of body shapes are known. They are; rectangle figure, pear, inverted triangle, apple and hourglass. Men mostly lie under inverted triangle where the shoulders are wider that the lower abdomen. In other words, the center idea is to be able to establish your shape. It will not only help you choose the wear, but also improve your look.

Dress color and skin tone

Determining the undertone of your skin is important in selecting the color of your dress. The individual’s complexion is a lead in choosing what is best for the look. If you want to determine what goes well with you, just try black and white clothes. If you find that you look great with black, then warm undertone are good for your physical appearance. On the other hand, if white, then cool colors are yours. This simple test will enable you not to misjudge in selecting party wears.

Versatility and Cost

Versatility and cost are two factors which should be put into consideration before buying the wear. For example, a black one can be purchased at a higher cost because it can be worn many times without noticing. This is contrary to a green dress, which everyone will notice should it be worn twice. If you are operating on a tight budget, it is advisable to look for a high quality dress, which can accessorize in different ways. It gives the buyer a chance to use it in different occasions without necessarily buying a new one. One occasion should not make you spend more for something that cannot be used again in future.

Accessories

Many people shop for accessories such as shoes, jewelry and others when shopping for clothes. This is essential especially if an individual has enough money. One rule of the thumb is to keep the focus of others at one common point. This means that if the party wear is simple, you can choose something that will attract the attention rather than the wear itself. On the other hand, if the dressing is ornate, you need to use less jewelry. It may be better to choose the wears that goes with existing beauty accessories.

There is nothing that hurts than knowing you are poorly dressed in a party. Take your time and go through the tips of choosing the best party wear.
