Perkongsian Mentor Usahawan : Datuk Wira Dr Azizan Osman

Things I’ve Learned Through Scuba Diving in Limited Visibility Dive Spots

I went exploring the Saujana Putra Lake again over the weekend with my husband and my dive buddy.

This weekend dive marks my 9th freshwater, limited visibility dive. My first two was in Empangan Semenyih, Selangor while the rest was at Saujana Putra Lake.

It may not be my first limited visibility dive, but each of these dives still feels like the first to me. Most dive buddies in my circle are are sea divers. Naturally, diving in the sea, especially tropical ones like in Malaysia is like exploring paradise. The tropical sea water is nothing short of crystal clear, and a home to abundance of marine lives. The only time Malaysian seas and islands gives bad visibility and weather is probably during monsoon season, which unadventurous and untrained divers commonly avoid for safety reasons.

Many of my dive buddies cannot understand why I’m so fond of lake diving. Lake diving is not the same as diving in the sea, especially in Malaysia, as the visibility can be as crappy as 0m-1m max, but I’ve learned plenty of things through freshwater lake diving:

* I learned to be more mindful of the weight I carry and to make extra effort to watch my buoyancy. Kicking mud up is a no, no. As it will make things worst for everyone.

* It builds alot of confidence and I’ve learned to be calm and not panic in alot of underwater situations.

*I’m not a patient person, but this help me have compassion and be more patient towards those who are diving with me.

* Limited visibility trained me to be more observant towards the surroundings. If you are not observant, you cannot spot anything at all and you wouldn’t be able to enjoy your dive.

* I learned the importance of exposure suit and how dressing up for the occasion is helpful in protecting you from hazards and unexpected injuries.

* I learned to quickly adjust to the changes of temperature and visibility; cuz there’s thermocline here. The temperature can be warm one moment and the very next moment at the same depth it can suddenly turn very cold. The water colour changed drastically too at certain depth. One moment it can be clear green then the next moment it can be yellowish or muddy.

*I learned to make effort to be alert all the time.

* I learned to make effort to be more self-reliant instead of totally relying on my guide or my dive buddy to keep me safe, as losing buddy and direction is really common when you dive in limited visibility.

Despite of this, I still have more to learn. To me, as long as I’m a scuba diver, I will always be a student diver. The learning will never stop, and I will always need instructors and more teachers to teach me and guide me. That’s the most funny thing about learning. The more you learn, the more you realized that you know less. It’s really humbling, if you ask me.

One thing for sure, this will definitely not be my last dive here. Some stuff I’ve learned here, is not something I can cultivate in pool trainings. I’m itching to do more dives at this spot, especially night dive. There’s even more to see at night over here in the lake.

Freshwater limited visibility diving is not for faint hearted scuba divers or freedivers alike. If you’re not adventurous and have no sense of adventure, you wouldn’t be able to enjoy it, but if you’re someone who doesn’t mind going rugged and extreme dive, then you should give this a try if you haven’t yet.

New Year’s Eve Flood Relief Charity Lake Dive with iDivers

2021 was a challenging year. Not just for me but for everyone else as well, I’m sure. Covid19 is still raging, but despite being thrown into nationwide lockdown during the first two quarters of the year, I’m glad there’s growth where personal development is concerned. These are some of the things that I should give myself credit for;

*

๐Ÿ˜ŽI took up plenty of diving specialty

.

๐Ÿ˜ŽI got certified for Nitrox.

.

๐Ÿ˜ŽI went lake diving for the first time at Semenyih Dam and fell in love with lake diving.

.

๐Ÿ˜ŽI was awarded Specialty Diver by SSI.

.

๐Ÿ˜ŽI attended first aid classes, learned how to provide first aid, perform CPR and use AED and I’m now a certified Basic Life Support Provider.

.

๐Ÿ˜ŽI started learning Qigong and Taichi, and ended up doing it consistently

.

๐Ÿ˜ŽI learned how to wield cold weapons and I can now play with sword and sabre.

.

๐Ÿ˜ŽI learned the art of meditation and mindfulness.

.

Come to think of it, it’s not exactly a year wasted. I’ve made plenty of good progress, and that’s really a lot in comparison to the years before Covid. The best part of all? My social circle is now full of people who helped me grow and push me to be the best version of myself. And speaking of people who empower one another, I decided to end end 2021 meaningfully with a splash, and kicked off 2022 with a big splash as well. Literally. And figuratively. And how was it splashy? Well, I went for the new year’s eve and midnight countdown charity dive organized by iDivers and #habangostatclan. If you are a Malaysian, you are probably aware that the nation was shocked by the recent flood disaster in Klang Valley and many has lost their homes and belongings. In the spirit of #kitajagakita, iDivers decided to organize a flood relief charity dive. Here’s sharing with you the faces of my buddies who were there that night, hoping to have some underwater midnight fun at the lake and at the same time, help out our buddy in need.Dive pros from SSI, PADI and IANTD worked hand in hand as our dive guide that night.Behind the scene before our night exploration.Equipment checkMe and my husband. He was my dive buddy that night. With Ms. Syahnaz and Anna Maria from KAIA Underwater AcademyMy new dive buddy, Ms. AinNew dive buddy, Ms.EchaWith Colonel (Dr) Mohd Hafizi, Senior Consultant Emergency and Hyperbaric Medicine at Hospital Angkatan Tentera Tuanku Mizan.Dive briefing was done by Instructor Arif from iDivers.Instructor Arif, making sure everyone understands the dos and don’ts that night before our dive. Now, most of us are just normal civilians, and we are not trained or qualified to be in the front scene to help flood victims, but as scuba divers, we certainly can dive for charity.Diving for charityAll proceeds for the donation drive and the new year’s eve and midnight countdown dive that night goes to one of our dive buddy who is affected by the recent flood disaster. Any extras would be donated to the needy as well.I don’t know what’s in store for 2022, and I don’t have a resolution for it. All I’m hoping is that I will be empowered and my days will be happy and blessed with no worries.Thank you buddies for making such beautiful memories. You guys are awesome.

GT-Racing Ergo Z Gaming Chair Review

I’ve been contemplating of a workstation upgrade and change my not so comfy office chair to a better one, but I can’t find any good deals that’s worth my money, so I’ve been putting it off, until I saw this one, the GT-Racing Ergo Z Gaming Chair. To be honest, I was aiming to get the TT Racing Duo V3 Gaming Chair, which costs about RM350 during sale and RM500++ during non sale time. This is abit over my budget, and did not exactly have the function that I wanted.I wanted the reclining to 180’degrees position and adjustable arm rest. The entree level TT Racing Duo V3 Gaming Chair does not offer this function. It can only be adjusted to 150’degrees and the arm rest is not adjustable. There’s also this annoying cushion at the front crotch area that I don’t really fancy. There are other TT Racing Gaming Chair that offers the functions that I wanted, of course, but they’re the higher end models and abit on the high side of the budget as well and I wasn’t willing to spend such exorbitant amount of money.After browsing and weighting my options, I settled with this GT-Racing Ergo Z Gaming Chair. It has all the features that I need, including reclining to 180’degrees, which will allow me to lie down for a nap and adjustable arm rest. The best part of this is that it costs me only RM290 including delivery, which is below my budget for a new office chair upgrade.So, am I happy with my purchase? Yes, definitely. No regrets. The GT-Racing Ergo Z Gaming Chair is not only affordable, but very comfy too. Here’s sharing with you what I think about it;

.

Design: It’s pretty much like other gaming chair in the market, but still smart and sleek. The ergonomic shape with wing-like backrest really does follows your body shape. It’s practically the sports car seat design and somehow made you feel like you’re sitting in a sports car seat.

.

Comfort: Very comfortable. The paddings and cushions. It comes with two extra external pillows as well for your neck and your waist.Swivel: Yes, the chair allows smooth 360’degrees swiveling.Adjustable height: Yes, you can adjust the height as you like.

.

Reclining: Able to recline from 90’degrees up to 170’degrees, which is great for any setups, be it for work, gaming or leisurely movie watching session. It’s also nice to nap on it. All you need to do is just pull the lever and make it recline and you’re good to go to Dreamland.

.

So am I happy with my new GT-Racing Ergo Z Gaming Chair? Yes. I’m definitely happy with it. Although the chair does make you feel a little hot due to the faux leather material, it’s still comfortable to sit on for long hours as the cushion paddings is thick enough to support my weight. Sitting on the chair makes me feel like sitting in a comfortable car seat, going on a roadtrip somewhere and it’s really a good feeling. The only thing it lacks to complete the fantasy is just a Bluetooth speaker blasting my favourite traveling songs.

If you’re looking for a budget gaming chair with features that’s offered in higher end gaming chair, this GT-Racing Ergo Z Gaming Chair is quite a good bet, I must say. This gaming chair is available on Lazada and Shopee for less than RM300. To get more value for your money, I recommend you to get this during sale where you get further bonus discounts and free delivery.

.

Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored post. I just hope to help you make decisions on whether to buy this or not should you decide to buy a budget gaming chair.

OXY Anti-Blackhead Gel, Effective Weapon to Combat Oily Skin& Blackheads

Blackheads and oily skin are amongst the top skin concerns faced by teenagers. When teens hit puberty, their oil glands become overactive thereby resulting in the production of excessive sebum. The excess sebum and built-up of dead skin cells in the hair follicles then forms blackheads.

The need to use a facemask during this time of the pandemic can worsen oneโ€™s skin condition as it traps dirt and bacteria underneath it. Without proper care and treatment, blackheads will potentially lead to enlarged pores.

OXY the skincare brand for teens has introduced the new Anti-Blackhead Gel that is specially formulated to treat blackheads. It is gentle on the skin yet effective in diminishing blackheads which is usually found on the nose.

Effective ingredients found in its formulation include:

Glycolic Acid (AHA) and Salicylic Acid (BHA)
Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid are both active ingredients that targets different layers of the skin. While Glycolic Acid exfoliates and removes dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, Salicylic Acid is able to penetrate deep into the skin and clear out impurities such as dirt and sebum from the pores to ensure skin around the nose area is clear and smooth.

Salicylic Acid used in the new OXY Anti-Blackhead Gel is derived from Wintergreen Leaf Extract, which is 100% natural Salicylic Acid that comes with skincare benefits such as purifying the skin, removing excess sebum and ultimately helping to get rid of blackheads.

Witch Hazel Leaf Extract
With the possibility of inflammation caused by exfoliation, the new OXY Anti-Blackhead Gel is packed with Witch Hazel Leaf Extract to soothe the skin and bring down inflammation. Other than its soothing properties, the Witch Hazel Leaf Extract also helps to tighten the pores to reduce the appearance of pores on the problemed area.

High Purify Centella Asiatica Extract
Centella Asiatica Extract promotes collagen reproduction in the skin, which is important, as collagen helps the skin cells to renew and repair themselves. This ingredient has also been found to calm inflammation, soothe redness, and repair damaged skin to achieve an overall even complexion.

The OXY Anti-Blackhead Gel is to be applied after cleansing the skin. Pat dry, squeeze out an appropriate amount of the gel on the fingertip and apply a thin layer on the nose. Leave it to dry for about 3-5 minutes. Then, gently massage to exfoliate and remove blackheads. Lastly, wash thoroughly with water.

This product is recommended to be used 2-3 times a week. Traditional blackheads removal methods such as using tools or our fingers to squeeze them out may risk permanent scarring on the skin and cause damage to the epidermis layers of the skin; therefore, gentle chemical exfoliation is the way to go.

The new OXY Anti-Blackhead Gel retails at RM14.90 (18g) and is available at leading pharmacies and supermarkets nationwide. For more information about the new OXY Anti-Blackhead Gel, kindly log on to oxy.com.my.

PTTI Lancar Kempen 2 Juta Bangkit Belajar

Mentholatum Released New Acne Care Range For Visibly Clear and Healthy Looking Skin

Facial acne, though common among adolescents and young adults, impacts their quality of life. Studies have shown that acne can cause psychosocial disturbances such as depression and anxiety. Citing a research done by Brody, 2019, โ€œacne is not a killer, but it can scar people literally and psychologically.โ€
In addressing issues arising from facial acne and also to offer a solution to help with acne care, Mentholatum has launched a new skincare range for acne and oily-prone skin known as Mentholatum Acnes.
Mentholatum Acnes, Japanโ€™s No.1 complex trouble care is a brand that has been developed from Rohto-Pharmaceutical, a global pharmaceutical company with rich history and heritage in skincare product development with over 120 yearsโ€™ experience in pharmaceutical technology. It aims to help consumers achieve visibly clear and healthy-looking skin through its range of products containing naturally derived ingredients to help address acne and oily troubled skin effectively whilst providing gentle care to the skin.

According to a survey by Mentholatum, 72% of respondents experienced improved skin condition after 30 days of using the Mentholatum Acnes, whereas 3 out of 4 said their skin condition improved just after 7 days thereby giving them more self-confidence.

The new Mentholatum Acnes range consists of a full range of acne skincare routine, namely Mentholatum Acnes Creamy Wash, Acnes Powder Lotion, Acnes Oil-Control Moisturiser, as well as Acnes Anti-Acne Spot Gel for spot-treatment. The Acnes product range contains more than 95% of pure Centella Asiatica extract from Madagascar, which is backed by research to effectively help soothe the skin and aid in blemish recovery.

Details of the products are as follows:

Mentholatum Acnes Creamy Wash (RM19.90, 100g)
This Amino Acid soap-free cleansing formula is close to the skinโ€™s natural pH level for a gentle yet effective cleansing, suitable for sensitive acne-prone skin. Salicylic Acid (BHA) is added into the formula to help unclog pores and combat acne. The antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties of the Avocado Extract is a calming agent to calm the skin, at the same time remove sebum for longer lasting oil control. Vitamin C + E antioxidants are also found in this formulation to soothe skin, brighten dull skin, lighten acne marks, and strengthen the skin barrier.

Mentholatum Acnes Powder Lotion (RM19.90, 150ml)
This sebum-balancing and oil-control formula helps remove dead skin cells and fight blemishes by penetrating deep into the pores. It also contains oil absorbing mineral powder to help absorb excess sebum and tighten the pores for smoother looking skin. To prevent excessive dryness, Aloe Vera Extract is added for its moisturising properties, as well as for long-lasting freshness. Similar to the Creamy Wash, the Powder Lotion also contains Vitamin C to help brighten dull skin, lighten acne marks, and strengthen skin barrier.

Mentholatum Acnes Oil Control Moisturiser (RM29.90, 45g)
The moisturising properties of this moisturiser is derived from apple, aloe vera, seaweed, and chamomile extracts to keep the skin feeling soft and moisturised. The apple extract also works alongside with Salicylic Acid for gentle exfoliation; while bitter cherry extract is added to improve skinโ€™s elasticity, leaving the skin plump and youthful.

Mentholatum Acnes Anti-Acne Spot Gel (RM21.90, 18g)
This spot treatment contains 2% Sulphur that effectively treat stubborn acnes. Added with Salicylic Acid, it will reduce excessive sebum, remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and prevent acne breakouts. It also contains Vitamin E and Licorice extract to soothe and calm irritated acne spots.

To start-off your acne-care routine, cleanse the skin by squeezing an appropriate amount of Mentholatum Acnes Creamy Wash onto wet palms, lather with water and massage gently. Then, rinse thoroughly with water. After cleansing, pat on the Mentholatum Acnes Powder Lotion onto the skin with cotton pads or just your palms. Remember to shake the bottle before every usage to mix the mineral powder and the solution. Then, apply the Mentholatum Acnes Oil-Control Moisturiser evenly on the skin and gently massage until it is fully absorbed by the skin. Use these three products for your daily day and night time acne skincare routine.

For spot treatment, apply the Mentholatum Acnes Anti-Acne Spot Gel topically 2-3 times a day on the affected areas. The Anti-Acne Spot Gel can be used before applying makeup. Before applying, ensure your hands and skin are thoroughly cleansed to prevent contamination.

The Mentholatum Acnes Creamy Wash, Powder Lotion, Oil-Control Moisturiser, and Anti-Acne Spot Gel are available at Watsons and various online platforms. Travel Local with Traveloka

I thought 2020 was the worst year in my life. I was wrong. 2020 was challenging at most, and I still have freedom to go around for quite a few months. Unlike this year, the year 2021 things spiraled downwards after Covid19 crisis hit hard on Malaysian shore and everyone are forced to face more than 6 months of having to stay home due to lockdown imposed by the government in order to combat the Covid19 spread.

Heard this tagline, ‘Plan now and travel later’ before? I think many have heard of it. The tagline is usually advertised by many tourism operators in hopes to attract tourists to visit their place once restrictions is lifted. As cruel as it sounds to the tourism industry, I’m glad that I did not plan for any vacations as it would have lead to continuous disappointments as even as of writing, travel restrictions is still in place. It will definitely break my heart if I have to stay home when the travel arrived as travel restrictions is still in place.

Anyway, Malaysians still can’t travel anywhere for vacations right now. Travel ban is still in place although the rules is relaxed for the fully vaccinated; where fully vaccinated individuals can cross districts and visit tourism attractions or establishments. If you are still not fully vaccinated, then it’s still lockdown rules for you. Say, if you are living in Klang Valley area, regardless of where you are staying, you can book a KL Staycation, provided you are fully vaccinated and follows strict SOP throughout your staycation period.

Same goes if you are living in any part of Perak, you can now make a booking at Pangkor Laut Resort and have a vacation there.

Not too bad right? Although we can’t move around too much like we used to, we still can travel locally in our own states and that is quite a relief, especially for tourism operators. There is also special pilot programs where the government has introduced the Green Travel Bubble you can go to certain locations like Langkawi Island safely by using public transport or travel agencies no matter which part of Malaysia you are in.

I think if you are now fully vaccinated and is passionate about traveling and don’t mind the hassle of planning ahead and adhering to strict SOP, you can start planning for your vacation. There are plenty of tourism operators who are offering great deals and discounts online, especially on Traveloka. You might want to hop over to Traveloka and check it out and see what tickles you fancy. I can assure you that they will really stretch your Ringgit as the prices for room packages and what it is absolutely attractive and competitive.

That said, before I pen down, I would like to wish everyone who decides to go on a holiday a safe and happy journey. Please adhere to all the SOP, maintain social distancing and be safe always while holidaying. Let us all hope that things will get better soon and we can travel freely once Covid19 gets under control.

Simple and Easy DIY Haircut and Makeover

Salon is closed due to endless lockdown in Malaysia and my hair is getting too long and unruly. It’s been exactly a year and two days since I last had a haircut and here’s sharing with you how I cut my own hair and give myself a small makeover, in case you would like to do the same too.

I learnt this from TikTok, so here’s sharing with you ladies who might want to give yourselves a hair makeover.

I don’t have any professional haircutting tools, so I just made a grab for my kitchen scissors to get it done in just two easy steps.

1. First use a rubber band and tie it up at the front to give it a trim with scissors.
2. Second if you want your hair layered, pull all your hair in front and tie it up with a rubber band and cut off about an inch for a soft layer. If you want an obvious sharp layer with a side bang, give it a two inch.

My hair colour has already faded and it looks annoyingly unsightly with my black hair growing out, so I decided to colour it too. I’m not hair colouring expert so I used this idiot-proof hair dye; Liese Bubble Hair Color. It’s as easy to use. All you need to do is just mix it up and apply the solution as if you would a shampoo, let it sit for 30mins before washing it off.

Before and after a haircut and a slight soft layer and colouring with Liese Bubble Hair Color: Milky Beige.

Not too bad, coverage is okay and I think it does make me look brighter and more cheerful. The hair colour should be brighter under the sun in a few days, so hopefully it’ll look more striking after a few more wash.

Can finally sport my favourite ‘Dragonball’s Bulma’ hairstyle after the haircut as the hair is no longer so long and heavy.

My favourite look whenever I go for events or covering for press conferences before Covid era.

The ponytail I usually pull up into whenever I dance to Kpop cardio workout songs or when I’m practicing Qigong and Taichi.

Used to tie up a half ponytail like this whenever I chillax with my friends over a cuppa in cafรฉs before Covid.

Ladies, just because you are in a lockdown and you have to stay home does not mean you should just give up on looking presentable. Trust me, looking presentable will also bring yourselves good vibes and pleasant feelings for the people around you, so yea, if you feel like giving yourselves a haircut, a makeover or dress up simply because you feel like it, just go ahead and do it.

I hope this post will be beneficial for you and I wish you good health and happiness.
