Fireflies To Connect Twin Cities Kuala Selangor, Malaysia And Hakuba Goryu, Japan

image

Tourism Selangor together with the state’s Kuala Selangor District Council connects businesses from the state of Selangor and Japan in a B2B sessions at JATA Tourism EXPO 2017, which took take place on Thursday, September 21st, until Sunday, September 24th 2017 at Tokyo Big Sight in Tokyo.

The event provides participants that came from various travel agencies, government agencies and hoteliers to connect with travel industry associates.

“Selangor’s tourism industry still has a lot of potential for development and can be explored even further, particularly with our counterparts here in Japan.  In our quest to be an active and thriving tourism industry, we at Tourism Selangor and the Selangor government are supportive of all efforts by our local industry players to develop the attractive products available at our home, such as; Eco Nature, Agro Tourism, Homestay, Heritage and Culture”, said Madam Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din, General Manager of Tourism Selangor.

“We are confident that Selangor’s Tourism Products would receive an encouraging response from the Japanese tourists as they always like anything new and different. What we will initiate together with Kuala Selangor District Council and Hakuba Tourism Association is a powerful platform that can help drive the tourist arrival from Japan and getting them to go further around Selangor and stay longer. Local businesses can capitalise this inbound interest to grow the economy of the state in the long term,” she added.

Statistics have shown that there is an increase of 211.38% tourist’s arrival from Japan, in the first quarter of the year, from January – April 2016 (20,026), to January – April 2017 (62,356). While the popular destination for Japanese, coming to Selangor, Malaysia may prove to be worthy of the attention for those who go for longer holidays.

This year, Tourism Selangor, Kuala Selangor District Council and Hakuba Tourism Association are taking the opportunity to use the expo’s platform to initiate the collaboration between 2 cities, Selangor’s district, Kuala Selangor and Hakuba Goryu, Japan. The collaboration is an initiative to promote cooperation and expertise in tourism aspects between both cities.

The twin cities will be collaborating to promote its firefly’s products, which aimed to learn more about the preservation of firefly colonies in Kampung Kuantan, Kuala Selangor and to work hand in hand for the development of Tourism between the 2 cities. This cooperation is a continuation effort of the JATA’s participation in 2016. Tourism Selangor has also received an official visit from Hakuba Tourism Association on last 8th of September, in Kuala Selangor. Counter-visits from Tourism Selangor and Kuala Selangor District Council will continue officially to Hakuba Goryu City after the participation of JATA 2017, which will be hosted by Hakuba Tourism Association.

The ongoing Discover Selangor campaign is a benchmark for Tourism Selangor in promoting new and old products that have not garnered much attention, thus highlighting and promoting them to the public as well as the tourism market, domestically and abroad. The accompanying ‘Heart of Malaysia’ is used as a slogan to strengthen the current promotional campaign, specifically indicating Selangor state as a hub for transportation, development, investment, business, education, medicine and others – where it all begins and centered in the Selangor state.

Brooklyn Day Out at SkyAvenue, Resorts World Genting

I’m not good at a lot of things. I’m terrible at cooking and I’m lucky if whatever I churned out from my kitchen is even edible. I’m bad at singing. I’m not blessed with the voice of a songbird and people usually cringe when I sing-along to some of my favourite songs. I am also bad at dancing and I can barely move to the tune that I’m dancing to. Life is so unfair, no? Some people are gifted at everything. They are almost a domestic goddess who can cook a feast, can sing like a star and can dance like Micheal Jackson. But life is never fair, and you have to make most out of it. I may not be blessed with the talents for all these things, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy doing all the things I’m not good at.

I have a pension for good food and good music and I take every chance I have to enjoy them everyday. And speaking of good food and good music, I’ve literally let my hair down at Brooklyn Day Out recently in Resorts World Genting.

image

Brooklyn Day Out is a Brooklyn inspired music festival that was held in SkyAvenue to celebrate the launch of Brooklyn-born Motorino, the home to one of the best Neapolitan pizzas. You may read more about what Motorino has to offer HERE and if you are interested about the man behind Motorino, you can hop over HERE. Now, let me be frank with you; I have never attended any music festival. This one was my first ever and I did not know what to expect in the beginning, but I’m glad I accepted the invitation to Brooklyn Day Out as my family and I had so much fun over there during the festival.

Yours truly, all hyped out at the entrance of Brooklyn Day Out in SkyAvenue

Plenty of fun stuff in store for us throughout the day.

Food stalls aplenty at Brooklyn Day Out

Free flow of popcorns and cottom candies for everyone at Brooklyn Day Out.

Plenty of pizzas from Motorino for everyone to enjoy.

image

Chicken meatballs from Motorino that had people go crazy for them throughout the day. I was too engrossed in my pizzas to go and queue up for these, however.

image

Here’s what we had during Brooklyn Day Out; some sparkling juices, roasted chicken and a whole Amatriciana Pizza from Motorino.

Picnic fun with friends at Brooklyn Day Out

Apart from the delicious food offerings at Brooklyn Day Out, there’s plenty of fun activities too. Here’s the free caricature booth where visitors could get their caricature done.

And what’s a festival without photobooth fun? There were plenty of props for us to choose from

Here’s us, getting our props before taking a few shots at the photobooth.

Here’s a one for the album

image

No music festival could be a success without upbeat music all day long and Brooklyn Day Out certainly did not lack good music throughout the day.

image

And here’s me, having dancing fun with my husband and son during Brooklyn Day Out. I’ve never been a reserved person when it comes to things like this, and therefore, I danced with abandon that day and have it my way, this will not be the last music festival that I attend.

Check out the video I made for our weekend fun day out.

I may not be good at singing and dancing. But I have always enjoyed doing these two things. Why stop enjoying doing things that you are not good at just because you don’t live up to the society’s judgmental standards? You only live once and you should make every breath that you take counts. Life is too short to care too much about people who does not matter.

Reinvent The Future with #StartIoT

image

What is IoT? IoT is an abbreviation of ‘Internet of Things’. Sounds complicated? No. Not quite. Simply put, it’s a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. One of the example of IoT that I can share with you, is one of those smart toothbrush that’s being sold in the market which connects to your smartphone and encourages good brushing habits for both kids and adults by turning brushing into a game and saving data on your phone about your brushing habits. Pet lovers would probably have IoT stuff running in their household too where there are devices installed at home where it allows people to feed their pets remotely via their smartphones when they are not at home, analyse the best type of food for the pets or how much they should be eating, and even sets up delivery of pet food when it’s running low. These are very basic example. But REKA, a Teaching, Research&Development institution that specialized in disruptive technologies in multiple discipline under AI focusing on IoT believes that loT is more than just smart toothbrushes, smart pet feeders, self-driving cars or connected homes. It has more potential in other areas such as healthcare and agriculture which can benefit Malaysia in whole in the nearest future.

image

In line with the government’s initiative towards promoting new industries and making Malaysia regional hub for loT, REKA partnered with RE, a Telekom Malaysia ‘s initiative set up back in 2014 to catalyze innovative culture and entrepreneurship within TM to launch #StartloT, a 3 months loT workshop which specifically caters for engineering students and local entrepreneur or SMEs who wants to learn more and get started with the Internet of Things (loT). Align with the needs to enhance knowledge in loT, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) under an accelerator program called RE: supported REKA’s effort to strengthen technopreneur capabilities and foster the generation of globally-competitive loT innovations and ideas through #StartloT.

Wagyu Beef Delights at Sango Japanese Restaurant, Petaling Jaya

I have always love Japanese food, but most Japanese food franchises in Malaysia serves mediocre Japanese cuisine. A shame really, as authentic Japanese food are supposed to taste beyond delicious. I’m constantly on the lookout for Japanese restaurants that serves good Japanese food in Klang Valley and here’s one among the few that I can recommend; Sango Japanese Restaurant.

The restaurant have a history of 22 years in Malaysia as of 2017, and is located at level 2 of Crystal Crown Hotel in Petaling Jaya Selangor, Malaysia.

The restaurant offers public dining, but should you require some privacy, private tatami room is available upon request and it could accomodate 8 pax of guests at one time. Perfect for small private gatherings.

Spotted upon entering the restaurant is their open sashimi bar where the chef will freshly prepare sashimi for you upon ordering.

Similar to the sashimis, Yakitori are also made to order to retain the natural flavours of the skewered dish.

Wagyu Beef series menu

Watch the video to get a better idea on what Sango Japanese restaurant has to offer.

Sango Japanese Restaurant is specialized in Yakitori, and in my previous visit, I’ve tried a selection of their Donburi but as of writing, they are currently offering Sango Beef Series which is really good. What’s recommended on their menu are; Wagyu Toban Yaki, Gyu Tataki Truffled Ponzu, Wafu Hamburger Slider, Delicious Wagyu Steak Donburi, Superb Wagyu Maki, Bara Wagyu Cubes Donburi, Wagyu Cubes Donburi with Foie Gras, Wagyukushiyaki and Ox Tongue Donburi.

Wagyu Toban Yaki (RM60) . This dish features seared wagyu meat and vegetabe on ceramic plates. You may do all the searing yourselves, but be careful not to overcook the meat to retain the juiciness of the meat. Just sear both sides til medium rare and they’re all good for your enjoyment.

Gyu Tataki Truffled Ponzu (RM38). These thinly sliced beef with truffled citrus sauce is prettu much tangy and refreshing on the palate. Those who likes sourish dishes will adore this.

Wafu Hamburger Slider (RM20) is a set of Japanese style hamburgers served with crispy onion and mustard. Highly recommended for children and for those who wants some light carbs in their diet.

Delicious Wagyu Steak Donburi (RM45). Can’t go a day without your fill of rice? This wholesome meal is definitely for rice lovers. The ricebowl is topped generously with grilled Wagyu beef and perfectly done onsen egg. A promising and comforting meal for a hungry tummy.

image

Superb Wagyu Maki (RM35). A fan of sushis and maki? Try this Superb Wagyu Maki. The Wagyu beef are paired with rice, miso spicy mayo with crispy onion. A unique rendition of rice rolls, I must say and a refreshing change from the usual fishes and such.

Bara Wagyu Cubes Donburi (RM55). This ricebowl are topped with Wagyu cubes with tare glaze, scallions and tobiko bits. A wholesome meal that will keep your growling tummy happy.

Wagyu Cubes Donburi with Foie Gras (RM85). This dish features a lovely bowl of rice topped with melt-in-your mouth Wagyu cubes, foie gras and shittake mushrooms. An luxurious indulgence in a bowl, definitely. A personal favourite of mine among all the Wagyu beef series offered by Sango Japanese Restaurant.

Ox Tongue Donburi (RM38). Feeling advanturous? Fancy something a little exotic? Try this Ox Tongue Donburi. Yes, as the name suggest, this ricebowl dish is topped with sliced ox tongue. They’re delicious, I assure you.

Wagyukushiyaki (RM18) is a must try if you just want meat and nothing else. Wagyukushiyaki is simply a dish of charcoal grilled Wagyu cubes seasoned with sea salt. The dish offers satisfying bites in each of it’s skewers.

These Wagyu beef dishes from Sango is a must try if you are a fan of all things meaty. The selections of Wagyu beef are perfectly marbled and actually melts-in-your mouth as you eat and I promise you that you’ll be begging for more once you’ve tried them.

SkyAvenue Fashion Week 2017: Time to Light Up Jewellery & Timepiece Fashion Show

People often have this misconception that social media influencers and models loves to dress up to the nines whenever they make public appearance, but personally, I like clothes that’s minimalistic and those that make me look prim and proper instead of flamboyant and flashy. When it comes to dressing up, I have always opt for comfort over style despite the fact that I do some part time modeling whenever opportunity arises. And when it comes to accessorizing or wearing jewelleries, I prefer those tiny, delicate ones instead of huge, very colourful ones. There are plenty of jewelers in the market offering that sort of jewelries, but among my top all time favourite is from Thomas Sabo, one of the leading global brand in designing, selling and distributing jewelleries and timepieces. I have a few charms and tiny little bracelets from Thomas Sabo at home in my jewelry box and wears them occassionally when I feel like going for the glamourous look.

My husband probably cannot understand why I buy accessories more than I buy clothes, but here’s the thing; sometimes jewelries remains evergreen and never goes out of fashion. And if you know how to pair them up, they will even make you look as if you are worth a million dollar.

image

Anyway, I happened to be invited to SkyAvenue Fashion Week 2017: Time to Light Up Jewellery & Timepiece about two weeks back, featuring the latest collections of all the jewellery
and timepiece tenants at SkyAvenue. And much to my delight, one of the brands that’s showcasing their latest collection is Thomas Sabo. I said yes to the invitation of course, and here’s sharing with you some pictures taken during the SkyAvenue Fashion Week 2017: Time to Light Up Jewellery & Timepiece.
