Okonomi Restaurant, Publika KL

Adakah anda seorang peminat makanan Jepun?

foto IMG_0730_zpsbdpnel5w.jpg

Soft Shell Crab Pasta .

foto IMG_0741_zpszujk7tyh.jpg

Kami memesan 3 jenis pencuci mulut. Yang pertama adalah Matcha Anmitsu . Gabungan matcha ais berperisa lembut di sajikan dengan pes kacang merah amat segar sekali.

foto IMG_0742_zps44a3zchq.jpg

Customizable Japanese Delights at Okonomi, Publika

Are you a Japanese food fan? If you are, then there’s one place that is a must try; Okonomi Restaurant.

 photo IMG_0614_zps1stsn2lf.jpg

Located in Publika, this restaurant offers a wonderful array of Japanese food for your gastronomic pleasure. Even better? It is actually a restaurant that allows you to actually play and experiment with flavours as it serves ‘sushi as you like it’ where diners can mix and match 40 choices of fillings, 16 types of toppings & 20 sauces to create their own ‘maki’ sushi rolls.

My husband and I managed to give it a try and here’s sharing with you what we had about two weeks back:

 photo 20161016_183609_zpsfgjmv9vl.jpg

Ordering a customized sushi can be a bit tricky, but fret not. The staffs are very helpful in guiding you on how to mix and match your sushi. Basically all you need to do is just choose a base of white or brown rice with seaweed or soy wrap, then select the size of your roll – a six-piece ‘small’ (RM13.90++) comprises three regular fillings (a premium filling results in a RM5++ surcharge), one topping & one sauce, while ‘medium’ (RM16.90++) features four fillings & ‘large’ (RM19.90++) boasts five. You may also tempurized your selection when it is all wrapped up.

 photo IMG_0727_zps1jllx3lz.jpg

I wasn’t feeling very adventurous during our visit, and therefore I decided to play safe. I customized this tempurized maki; it consists of white rice with seaweed wrap with tamago, Hokaido crabmeat and topped with bonito flakes and mentai mayo dressings. I decided to tempurized it and it turns out pretty good and the taste pretty much reminded me of the Takoyaki. I was actually pretty tempted to make a second but goes against that idea as I wanted to try something else on the menu.

 photo IMG_0725_zps2256bmeq.jpg

Unlike me, my husband prefer cold and a tad raw when it comes to his sushi, and theforefore his creation consists of more raw items inside as the fillings. If I remembers correctly, he opt for salmon, marinated lobster and pickles topped with mayo dressings. I sampled some of his, and I have to say although he likes it, I find the combination was pretty weird.

 photo IMG_0663_zpsbt9vpsnx.jpg

Our guest also tried the customizable salad. I couldn’t really remember what she decided to toss in but it was also a pretty good combination.

 photo IMG_0637_zpsxie7l5al.jpg

Envious of our guest’s yummylicious salad, I wanted a bowl too. But I did not want to customize mine and therefore I picked one from the house menu instead. This is the Avacado Prawn Salad . Wonderful and refreshing combination, I must say. The portion was huge too and could easily satisfy small eaters like me.

 photo IMG_0730_zpsbdpnel5w.jpg

We also shared this plate of Soft Shell Crab Pasta. The crab was adeptly fried and the pasta were flooded with some sort of flavourful sesame gravy. This is not too heavy a meal actually, and great for those who wants a comforting meal for their tummy.

 photo IMG_0699_zpszv1sugyc.jpg

Sushi Chicken Burger was a bit challenging to eat as we had no skills whatsoever to dissect it nicely, but tastewise the burger was simply splendid.

 photo IMG_0741_zpszujk7tyh.jpg

We’re suckers for dessert. And we ordered 3 of em to satisfy our need for a sweet ending. The first was Matcha Anmitsu. A combination of matcha flavoured soft served ice cream with red bean paste.

 photo IMG_0742_zps44a3zchq.jpg

Matcha Lava Cake was a splendid creation. The cake was baked to perfection and when it was cut through, it was practically oozing with thick green tea goodness.

 photo IMG_0745_zpslwvh7gyj.jpg

Chocolate Waffle was rich and satisfying and ut definitely won my heart that day.

Overall, it was an interesting dining experience and we thought that it is a great concept, especially for couples who couldn’t agree on what to eat and would like to sample food items that they have never tried before.

A Feast Fit for an Emperor at The Chinese Restaurant, Berjaya Waterfront Johor Bharu

9 course Chinese sit down dinner usually bores me to death, especially if it is at a traditional Chinese wedding reception or some special Chinese celebratory occasion. It consumes way too much time and the sequence of food is always the same and the food is always normal and boring.

I was pretty much beat up and exhausted. I wasn’t very interested in food when we arrived in Berjaya Waterfront Johor Bharu. But the food presented to us managed to catch my interest.

Here’s sharing what we had:

 photo IMG_2344_zpsnxiqbhoa.jpg

4 Seasons Combinations. The presentation of this dish is pretty much unique, with animal themes and dry ice making it look mysterious upon arrival to the table. Tastewise, the food was quite okay, though I think the rabbit dumplings could taste better with thinner skin. It was too floury to my liking.

 photo 20161023_204441_zpsd4tvcuvu.jpg

Crab Meat with Dry Scallops Fish Maw Soup was thick and rich. There was no undesirable fishy smell that could turn me off and I had two helpings of it.

 photo IMG_2360_zps6fdtyalx.jpg

2 Varieties Chicken. Served in a cute edible basket, this two varieties of chicken is topped with a variety of citrusy fruits and sourish dressings. Quite an addictive dish, I must say.

 photo IMG_2353_zpsfbwzujgk.jpg

Steamed Tiger Garoupa Hong Kong Style. The fish was steamed to perfection and was done in the tradituonal soya sauce and ginger combination. The fish was fresh and the meat was not onlh firm but smooth as well with plenty of natural collagen jellies in it. This dish taste and texture wasn’t as complicated as the chicken dish and this dish was gone within minutes.

 photo IMG_2375_zpso4ukdlvs.jpg

Baked Prawn Macau Style was fantastic. The fresh prawn were topped with cheese and were baked to perfection. A garden of fresh salad were served on the side to complement the prawn.

 photo IMG_2380_zpsiqhsckvw.jpg

Braised Brocolli& Cauliflower with Bai Ling Mushrooms was all right. Nothing to complain and nothing to shout about. There was nothing extraordinary about but those who likes greens would appreciate the crunchy brocolli florets.

 photo IMG_2391_zps5hknksfa.jpg

Sambal Fried Rice was surprisingly sensational. This may looks like your regular homecooked fried rice but the taste was out of this world. The rice was not only fragrant and aromatic but was bursting with flavours as well.

 photo IMG_2396_zps2t7cj6km.jpg

Homemade Jackfruit Ice Cream andDeep-fried Salted Egg Sesame Balls The jackfruit ice cream was too sweet for me. But that’s just me. I don’t have sweet tooth and I fancy savoury food much more than sweet food, so my husband and son enjoyed this much more than I do but the Deep-fried Salted Egg Sesame Balls was all right. The salted egg filling was custardy and quite comforting on the palate and I enjoyed it very much.

Let me be honest with you. I’m a fussy eater. And I’m not easily impressed with food, but the 9 course meal that I managed to sample during at The Chinese Restaurant, Berjaya Waterfront Johor Bharu during our way back from Tioman to Kuala Lumpur was not too shabby and it was quite an enjoyable experience.

This 9 course meal is said to worth RM1,000 per table but for a better idea on the course meal package that the restaurant is offering, please refer to the information below for further enquiries:

Holistic Remedy with The Traditional Malay Minyak Herba Asma Mujarab

If you have been following my Facebook and Instagram, you would notice that my updates are mostly about my travels and my misadventures with my family. They are mostly sunshines and mostly on positive notes, no?

Well, truth be told. While those things are true, and I seems to have fun most of the time, I do have my downtime and sick days. I’m just human, after all. Human will fall sick every now and then. I am not excluded from this. It’s just that I don’t like to share about it on my social media, but this time around, let me share with you my experience being sick, just before my recent trip to Tioman Island. I had terrible high fever with nasty cough and flu with thick phlegm to add to the equation.

What’s worst about this is that I did not recover despite seeing the doctor and countless pills that I popped during my sick period. Western medication did not work that well on me, I suppose. All it did was knocked me out and made me sleepy throughout the day. And so, seeing that I was racing against time to get well quickly before my trip to Tioman, I decided to give traditional remedy a go. I tried some traditional tonics to help reduce my inner body heat and it works magically.

 photo 20161031_225621_zpsdgkvqrvb.jpg

Another traditional medicine that was helpful during my sick period was the traditional Malay Minyak Herba Asma Mujarab. It is a holistic, external application remedy to asthma, joint pains, bloated-ness, fatique, cramps and many more.

 photo 20161031_225803_zpsigb54b30.jpg

In my case, this medicated ointment helps me to breathe better at night upon application on my chest and helps me reduce my nasty headache. My condition improves greatly after using Minyak Herba Asma Mujarab.

 photo 20161101_001235_zps0bcaihih.jpg

This ointment is also useful in helping small wound heals. My husband obtained this little wound during our snorkeling trip and the ointments helps a lot in the healing process.

Here’s sharing how this medicated ointment is used:

Cough and asthma
Apply generously on the chest and the back, neck and under the chin.

Flu
Apply a little on the nose

Fever
Rub a little on the forehead

Toothache
Apply on the aching tooth and cheek

Flatulence and constipation
Apply in the abdomen, waist and feet and calf

Wounds
Apply the ointment on the wound. But do make sure the wound is already dry.

Venomous stings, bumps, bruises and sore muscles
Apply on affected areas

Migraine
Apply on the forehead and neck

Low back pain and muscle aches
Apply ointment on places that aches

Diarrhea
Apply at the lower abdomen.

Menstrual pain
Apply on the lower abdomen
