Tedmi Malaysia Fun Retreat: Craft Making at Wave Rest House& Cafe

When was the last time you really, really put away your gadget and spend quality time with your loved ones? You know, do things together as a couple or family? Do you do it often? Well, I’m ashamed to admit that I’m pretty much caught up with the rat race that I’m almost inseparable with my gadgets, especially my smartphone, and same goes with my husband. While smartphone has been a necessity in the modern world, it has also become an addiction that you can’t get rid off. I’ll be honest with you. Sometimes, using the smartphone is like peeking into the fridge. You know there’s not much update that could possibly happen in the cyber world within the span of 3-5 minutes, and yet, you still got to check it out.

Impossible as it is to put gadgets away while you are with your loved ones, it is still not impossible to actually disconnect to reconnect. All we need to do is, well…simply put away the gadgets and find something to really do together, something that’s totally not related to tech stuff and gadgets.

During my fun retreat with Tedmi Malaysia at Wave Rest House&Cafe, Jeram Selangor, everyone who were there were somehow forced to do just that. The planned activities practically hurled you back in the 90s where you’ll need to put away all your gadgets in order actually do it. The first planned activity that renders all gadgets useless is Craft Making.

See all these hanging windchimes? They are all over the rest house. Initially I thought they are mere deco to complement the homestay’s theme but I soon discovered that they are made from seashells that’s collected from the beach nearby and it is all made by guests during their stays here in Wave Rest House&Cafe.

 photo PhotoGrid_1442086538450_zpsymgqcoi6_edit_1442086585937_zpswatja9f7.jpg

The windchimes were hung up all over the rest house to commemorate guests presence there once done. Interesting concept, don’t you think? I certainly like the idea of writing messages or love notes on the seashells and leaving it there for us to look back during our future visits. Imagine going back there again after a year or two and still finding the windchime that you made with your loved ones, with sweet notes written on it still hanging there. It’s really a romantic idea. At least, to me it is very romantic.

 photo DSCN6630_zpsrnpfmptw.jpg

Here’s Andrew Lim, the founder of Tedmi Malaysia, disconnecting to reconnect. 🙂 He briefed all of us during the craft making session on how the windchime is made.

 photo DSCN6677_zpsjvptgy6t.jpg

This will be there for quite some time. 😉 It was a small thing. And perhaps insignificant to many, but by the time we hung up our little masterpiece, I felt as if we have achieved something big as the three of us as during that short moment, we really did put away our gadgets and spent time with each other in every sense of the word. We talked to each other instead of texting or messaging. Well, don’t get me wrong. It’s not that we do not communicate with each other without gadgets, but this feels very different. 🙂 It’s like going back to the good old times where smartphones and stuff does not exist.
It was indeed a labor or love and a gentle reminder that while we often covet for materialistic things, simple things like this could bring so much joy and happiness.

To experience all these and get away from the superficial world for awhile, you can hop over to Wave Rest House& Cafe. Their package starts from RM139 for adults and RM69 for kids on weekdays and from RM169 for adults and RM69 for kids on weekend and public holidays, inclusive of meals and planned activities. There are 9 available rooms and the entire rest house can cater up to 30 pax. The place is about 60km away from Kuala Lumpur. You may drive there using Waze: https://waze.to/lr/hw28413e6s.

Tedmi, Fun and Rewarding Social Media Apps

Meet my new best friend. A huge and cuddly red bear.

 photo FB_IMG_1441880305203_zpsnejccqag.jpg

Say hi to Tedmi, my new cuddly love interest. This is no ordinary bear, mind you. He is the official mascot and everyone’s best friend for a fun and rewarding social media application, Tedmi.

So, what’s actually Tedmi? What kind of apps is it you ask me? Allow me to explain, my dear readers, before you hop away, thinking that this is just another one of those boring and useless apps that will just make your phone slow down and bloated. I know that there are tonnes of apps in the market but Tedmi is uniquely different and in my humble opinion, stands put above the rest as it is not only rewarding, but cute and fun as well.

Basically, Tedmi Malaysia is a social media apps that allows you to not only get the latest news but enables you to be rewarded with various vouchers and coupons from participating merchants. I have recently scored myself a 2d1n holiday package by just using Tedmi, but before I share my experience about it, allow me to share what Tedmi is all about and how to use it.

Tedmi is compatible with both Android and iOS so all you need to do is look up in your respective marketplace to download the apps.

I’m using Android based phone so here’s looking up on Playstore for Tedmi. Unlike others voucher apps, Tedmi is FREE to use. There is no fees whatsoever in comparison to other social media reward applications that is available in the market.

 photo Screenshot_2015-09-10-18-02-08_zpsvfrwkely.png

To start using Tedmi, you will of course need to install it. First, search for Tedmi Malaysia and you will end up here on this page.

 photo Screenshot_2015-09-10-18-02-15_zps5nbyvzaj.png

Click install and Tedmi will be automatically downloaded and installed in your smartphone.

 photo Screenshot_2015-09-10-17-59-21_zpsj3r30hws.png

Upon installation, open the apps by clicking on the Tedmi red bear icon on your phone and you will directed to this page. To start using Tedmi, you will need an account. To do that, you may choose to register an account via email or simply use your Facebook account to login and your account will be automatically created.

 photo Screenshot_2015-09-10-18-02-44_zpsjczgwh7h.png

Once your account has been created, you can take a look at your profile and verify all your personal information there.

 photo Screenshot_2015-09-10-18-07-16_zpse2iu3qcf_edit_1441881974571.png_zpsqq92d12c.jpeg

I opt to verify both my email and phone number along with the login password for security reason. There is a bonus reward in that as by verifying all your personal info, you will be rewarded with either a random Mi eggs or Mi experience point that will enable you to upgrade your Mi characters that will allow you to redeem more exclusive items.

 photo Screenshot_2015-09-06-20-38-00_zpsanhlhuvh.png

One of the Mi egg that I found after verifying my account.

 photo Screenshot_2015-09-10-19-05-34_zpsgg5v8toc.png

The eggs found usually will hatch in 24 hours and you can level them up by using your experience points for more rewards and benefits. Upgraded version of these Mi characters can also be automatically unlocked as your level grows.

 photo Screenshot_2015-09-10-18-06-13_zpsisxobp2r.png

Mi characters. They are actually functional avatars. Collect them all and upgrade them by using your experience points to enable more exclusive benefits offered by Tedmi Malaysia and the participating merchants. In other words, the higher your Mi characters are, the more benefit you will get. There is a lot of Mi to collect and may also choose to change avatars regularly by just clicking on these Mi characters.

Tedmi is pretty interesting. It provides both news updates on your timeline as well as vouchers to redeem.

 photo Screenshot_2015-09-10-18-04-38_zpsxf8i3nwe.png

One of the news from merchants.

 photo FB_IMG_1441880133209_zpsi9lvlmsy.jpg

You can bookmark your favourite news or posts and read it later from your profile.

Apart from that, you may also share interesting posts you saw in your Tedmi account with your friend on your social media account. Checkout the video above, courtesy of my friend, Azuki.

 photo Screenshot_2015-09-10-18-57-34_zpson9mmwse.png

I did mentioned that the apps is rewarding, right? Well, Tedmi apps allow you to save 1 voucher ticket from participating merchants every 10 minutes.

 photo Screenshot_2015-09-10-18-05-48_zpsma6hyc5s.png

The ‘wallet’ allows you to keep up to 50 vouchers at one time. Up in the screenshot is mine. I’m a foodie, naturally most vouchers I chose to save is of course, food related ones. They have wide range of vouchers you can save up and redeem, so keep a lookout for interesting vouchers.

 photo FB_IMG_1441880411646_zpsrpogztke.jpg

I scored myself a lucky draw as a Tedmi user. It was a premium ticket to 2d1n holiday retreat in The Wave Rest House&Cafe in Jeram, Selangor. So did I redeem it? Of course I did and I got to say that I never felt happier using an app like I did Tedmi. So how did I redeem?

 photo Screenshot_2015-09-10-18-05-31_zpshybse3mj.png

Easy. I just went to the guesthouse, mentioned Tedmi and scan the QR code for my ticket.

 photo Screenshot_2015-09-10-19-23-08_zpsdkzcbwgk.png

To redeem, just go to respective merchant, show them the ticket in your ‘wallet’ and scan a QR code from them in your Tedmi, redeem and enjoy.

 photo Screenshot_2015-09-10-18-05-55_zpscgfxzfqx.png

I redeemed mine and I had a huge blast last weekend with my family in The Wave Guesthouse and Cafe in Jeram, Selangor with Tedmi Malaysia team. Will be sharing my fantastic experience soon, but for now, if you are not a Tedmi user yet, please install it and start having fun! Tedmi will be releasing more interesting features with more fun, more reward soon, so use now, and stay tune for more exciting things with Tedmi.

Tedmi Malaysia Fun Retreat: Wave Resthouse & Cafe, Jeram

In my previous post, I mentioned that I scored myself a holiday package, and promised you that I’d share more about it, didn’t I? Well, never let it be said that I don’t keep my promise. 😉 Here’s sharing with you a series of my experience retreating with Tedmi Malaysia team at Wave Rest House & Cafe.

Wave Rest House& Cafe is basically a Homestay that provided not only guesthouse services but various of planned activities for its guests. You’ll be staying in the same ground of the hosts’ family where they will treat you like part of them. Most of the activities during your stays are designed to connect you to nature, and you can safely add this place as part of eco-tourism attraction that should be added into your bucket list.

Planned activities includes: Exploring mangrove forest, bicycle ride to the beach, birdwatching and craft making. Not necessarily in that order though, as weather factor is always considered for safety reasons.

I’ll be sharing more about the activities, but first, let’s take a look at the guesthouse, shall we?

 photo DSCN6619_zpsmsoeilzw_edit_1441953753809_zpsxj34k8xz.jpg

The place is located at Jeram, somewhere between Klang and Kuala Selangor and is about 80 minutes away from Kuala Lumpur.

 photo DSCN6584_zpsezrr78cu.jpg

View from the front. Wave Rest House& Cafe is pretty much unique and hard to miss. It was built with double deck office cabins that’s often seen in construction sites, with an extra top roof covered. Air conditioner is installed in each rooms, so there are no worries for the heat.

Rather ghostly, don’t you think?

The festival remains free for all and this gives the artists a freer range of expression. This was what made the festival unique. Artists freely collaborate, learn and experiment in the fundamental creative spirit. We have contemporary dancers, musicians, visual and new media artists alongside shamans from rural Java. The profundity of themes and artistic relationships have grown, given birth to many further collaborations, networks and exchanges.

Wanna have some ‘sabai-sabai’ time while enjoying authentic Thai Cuisine but don’t feel like flying out of the country? Well, you can do so without even stepping out of Klang Valley. Sen of Thai, located somewhere in the busy Damansara Utama is offering some wonderful ‘sabai sabai’ time at their restaurant.

Sen of Thai is offering deliciously authentic Thai cuisine with soothing 80s and 90s music in the background.

My family and I managed to try out some of their the things that they are offering in the menu, and here’s sharing what we had.

Thai Chicken roll- served together with the set lunch as appetizer. This Thai Chicken roll is adeptly fried and perfectly flavoured. One is simply not enough.

Kuay Tiaw Nua Puai (RM 16) – Tender fragrant beef noodle. I’m not always a fan of beef noodles as they tend to be rather ‘heaty’ and makes me feel uncomfortably sweaty after having them, but this bowl is so inviting that I couldn’t resist but trying. I did not stop at my first slurp. I thought this is quite strongly flavoured and those who are adventurous would appreciate this bowl of noodles.

Sen Green Papaya salad (Som Tam)- RM15. Very appetizing but I thought the ‘Nampla’ (fish sauce)drizzled into this Som Tam is quite overpowering and I couldn’t exactly taste the freshness of the shredded papaya.

Chicken Wings with Sen of Thai Sauce (Phi Gai Tod) -RM16. The chicken wings is rather flavourful and addictive and my son took a few helpings of this.

Red Tomyam Country Side Style- RM30. I did not try this Tomyam soup but my husband did and he said it tasted like Tomyam soup that we had in Hadyai last year.

Clear Soup Tomyam Country Side Style- RM30. I had a taste of this. Definitely not for the faint hearted. Don’t be deceived by the clarity of the Tomyam soup. This bowl of Tomyam soup packed quite a punch and I suggest you have some cooling and soothing drinks ready when you are having this.

Sen of Thai Green Curry ( Gaerng Keow Wan ) – RM20. Flavourful and thick, I approve this green curry. A bowl of piping hot rice would make just the companion for the green curry and I assure you that you will take a few helpings of it.

Signature Lime Chilli Sea Bass (Pad Plam Nam Pik)- RM25. No fishy smell whatsoever and I like the tangy flavours that comes with the fish.

Signature Deep Fried Sea Bass-RM25. Again, this dish makes a good companion to a bowl of piping hot rice. The sauce was really mouthwatering.

Pineapple Fried Rice RM18. Naturally sweet with pineapple, this fried rice makes a hood comfort food for the unsettled.

 photo IMG_9044_zpsm9jvqla0.jpg

Classic Pad Thai -RM16. The Pad is pretty decent and my son loves it alot.

Sen of Thai Fried Rice with a choice of tomyam or belacan flavour- RM16. We tried the Belacan Fried Rice and thought it was positively aromatic and yet not overwhelming on the palate. It is a little bit on the spicy note though, so if you can’t take spicy food, do request the chef to go easy on the chillies upon ordering.

Boxing Chicken was deeply flavoured and was gone in a jiffy.

 photo IMG_9070_zpszjqhbw54.jpg

Mango Sticky Rice -RM 12. Not quite like the one we are used to as the sticky rice used for this delectable dessert is black glutinuos rice instead of the usual white, but it is heavenly neverthless.

Famous Red Ruby – RM7. Refreshing and sweet, this dessert guarantees a happier you upon slurping it up.

Overall, dining in Sen of Thai really does transport you to the land of white elephant for a little while. The restaurant is pork-free and all ingredients are painstakingly imported from Thailand.
